Forensic Analysis Of Whatsapp On Android Smartphones, Neha S. Thakur 2013 University Of New Orleans

Forensic Analysis Of Whatsapp On Android Smartphones, Neha S. Thakur

LSU New Orleans Theses and Dissertations

Android forensics has evolved over time offering significant opportunities and exciting challenges. On one hand, being an open source platform Android is giving developers the freedom to contribute to the rapid growth of the Android market whereas on the other hand Android users may not be aware of the security and privacy implications of installing these applications on their phones. Users may assume that a password-locked device protects their personal information, but applications may retain private information on devices, in ways that users might not anticipate. In this thesis we will be concentrating on one such application called 'WhatsApp', a …

Adaptive Co-Scheduler For Highly Dynamic Resources, Kartik Vedalaveni 2013 University of Nebraska-Lincoln

Adaptive Co-Scheduler For Highly Dynamic Resources, Kartik Vedalaveni

Department of Computer Electronics and Engineering: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research

There are many kinds of scientific applications that run on high throughput computational (HTC) grids. HTC may utilize clusters opportunistically, only running on a given cluster when it is otherwise idle. These widely dispersed HTC clusters are heterogeneous in terms of capability and availability, but can provide significant computing power in aggregate. The scientific algorithms run on them also vary greatly. Some scientific algorithms might use high rates of disk I/O and some might need large amounts of RAM. Most schedulers only consider cpu availability, but unchecked demand on these associated resources that aren’t managed by resource managers may give …

Smarter Neat Nets, Ryan Swords Dehaven 2013 California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo

Smarter Neat Nets, Ryan Swords Dehaven

Master's Theses

This paper discusses a modification to improve usability and functionality of a ge- netic neural net algorithm called NEAT (NeuroEvolution of Augmenting Topolo- gies). The modification aims to accomplish its goal by automatically changing parameters used by the algorithm with little input from a user. The advan- tage of the modification is to reduce the guesswork needed to setup a successful experiment with NEAT that produces a usable Artificial Intelligence (AI). The modified algorithm is tested against the unmodified NEAT with several different setups and the results are discussed. The algorithm shows strengths in some areas but can increase the …

Segmentation And Model Generation For Large-Scale Cyber Attacks, Steven E. Strapp 2013 Rochester Institute of Technology

Segmentation And Model Generation For Large-Scale Cyber Attacks, Steven E. Strapp

Theses

Raw Cyber attack traffic can present more questions than answers to security analysts. Especially with large-scale observables it is difficult to identify which packets are relevant and what attack behaviors are present. Many existing works in Host or Flow Clustering attempt to group similar behaviors to expedite analysis; these works often phrase the problem directly as offline unsupervised machine learning. This work proposes online processing to simultaneously model coordinating actors and segment traffic that is relevant to a target of interest, all while it is being received. The goal is not just to aggregate similar attack behaviors, but to provide …

Computer Sciences and Electrical Engineering Faculty Research

Social experiences realized through teleconferencing systems are still quite different from face to face meetings. The awareness that we are online and in a, to some extent, lesser real world are preventing us from really engaging and enjoying the event. Several reasons account for these differences and have been identified. We think it is now time to bridge these gaps and propose inspiring and innovative solutions in order to provide realistic, believable and engaging online experiences. We present a distributed and scalable framework named REVERIE that faces these challenges and provides a mix of these solutions. Applications built on top …

Adaptive Ofdm For Wireless Interconnect In Confined Enclosures, Vit Sipal, Javier Gelabert, Christopher J. Stevens, Ben Allen, David Edwards 2013 Technological University Dublin

Adaptive Ofdm For Wireless Interconnect In Confined Enclosures, Vit Sipal, Javier Gelabert, Christopher J. Stevens, Ben Allen, David Edwards

Articles

This letter considers and recommends OFDM with adaptive subcarrier modulation as a suitable candidate for wireless UWB communication in computer chassis. A rigorous measurement campaign studies the guaranteed spectral efficiency. It concludes that enhancement of the existing WiMedia OFDM systems with a bandwidth of 528 MHz in order to support adaptive OFDM would enable data-rates above 1 Gbps over short ranges, i.e. the spectral efficiency would be doubled. Moreover, the guaranteed spectral efficiency is shown to increase with bandwidth, i.e. the guaranteed data-rate increases better than linearly with bandwidth.

Applied Hypergame Theory For Network Defense, Alan S. Gibson 2013 Air Force Institute of Technology

Applied Hypergame Theory For Network Defense, Alan S. Gibson

Theses and Dissertations

Cyber operations are the most important aspect of military conflicts in the 21st century, but unfortunately they are also among the least understood. The continual battle for network dominance between attackers and defenders is considered to be a complex game. Hypergame theory is an extension of game theory that addresses the kind of games where misperception exists, as is often the case in military engagements. Hypergame theory, like game theory, uses a game model to determine strategy selection, but goes beyond game theory by examining subgames that exist within the full game. The inclusion of misperception and misinformation in the …

Bruno The Robotic Bear, Aaron Brauner, Ian Panzer 2013 California Polytechnic State University - San Luis Obispo

Bruno The Robotic Bear, Aaron Brauner, Ian Panzer

Computer Engineering

Creating homemade robots are becoming a popular hobby among engineers. With the dramatic reduction in costs over the past few decades, it is finally possible to build a personal automated mailbox. Microcontrollers needed to function as the brains of the robot are also becoming powerful enough that relatively complicated instructions could be programmed into the robot to handle a plethora of sensors and peripherals. In order to demonstrate how the Computer Engineering department models the synthesis of computer science and electrical engineering, the topic chosen was robotics, specifically, a stuffed bear robot.

The microcontroller chosen was the Arduino Mega 2560 …

Dynamic Paint For Maya: Creation And Use In The Animation Short "Color Clash", Christopher Wallis

Computer Science and Software Engineering

This write-up describes the creation and utilization of a paint effect from both the perspective of the programmer and the animator. The paint effect simulates a 2D fluid using the algorithm described in Jos Stam's ``Real-time Fluid Dynamics for Games'' \cite{stam}, bakes the results into an image sequence, and then wraps the sequence around a 3D mesh. The second half of this paper describes how the effect was integrated into the animation short, ``Color Clash'' and the animation pipeline that was used.
