Bridging Pedagogy And Technology: Integrating Artificial Intelligence Into Elementary Classroom Practice, Shauna J. Mayer

Essays in Education

The rapid integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in education presents new opportunities for teachers to enhance creativity, efficiency, and student engagement. While much of the existing research focuses on secondary and postsecondary applications, AI use in elementary can integrate AI tools such as ChatGPT, MagicSchool.ai, Curipod, and Diffit into daily practice to support lesson planning, differentiation, and classroom community building. Guided by the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework and grounded in constructivist learning theory, this paper connects technology integration to pedagogical decision-making and reflective teaching. The goal is to bridge the gap between research and practice by offering evidence-based …

Fostering Psychological Ownership And Self-Authorship In Higher Education: Pathways To Student Engagement, Growth And Knowledge Creation, Noora Heino, Markku Ikävalko, Anssi Tarkiainen, Terhi Virkki-Hatakka

International Journal of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education

This study explores the intersection of psychological ownership (PO) and self-authorship (SA) in the context of university students’ project-based learning. It examines how students develop a sense of ownership over their course projects, ideas, and knowledge they create, and how this engagement shapes their learning, identity, and sense of self. The findings highlight the role of control and perceived idea quality in fostering psychological ownership, as well as the importance of intimate knowledge and perceived object quality in supporting self-authorship. The study underscores that when students feel connected to their ideas, their motivation, persistence, and engagement increase, especially in creativity-driven …

Leveraging The Intersection Of Ai And Play To Foster Human Connectedness And Character Formation, Lori B. Doyle, Ashley Brandon

Journal of Organizational & Educational Leadership

The benefits of fostering character formation are vast, encompassing psychological, social and emotional growth, yet there is no universally prescribed manner by which to proceed. Central to these efforts is human connectedness, which enhances psychological functioning and provides a pivotal foundation for well-being. Emerging factors such as integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the pedagogy of play are novel topics for the conversation within the character formation discourse. These elements, while tangentially related, hold significant potential to amplify character formation and sense of belonging. This paper examines the intersection of AI, pedagogy of play, and character formation through a theoretical …

Fostering Agency In Future Educators: Redesigning Instruction For Children's Literature Discovery Amidst Policy Changes, Rae Mair 2026 University of Central Florida

Fostering Agency In Future Educators: Redesigning Instruction For Children's Literature Discovery Amidst Policy Changes, Rae Mair

Georgia International Conference on Information Literacy

Recent changes in Florida policy led to the removal of several locally developed library resources. These resources had supported the discovery of children’s literature reflecting a range of cultural and social perspectives, along with the lesson plans created by students and faculty to accompany them. The shift placed greater emphasis on helping undergraduate teacher education students locate books on their own using advanced search strategies and available tools. Strengthening these skills has become increasingly important for supporting student agency in selecting materials for their classrooms. However, motivating students to engage with advanced search techniques in library catalogs and databases can …

Factors Influencing Academic Recovery In Mathematics In Middle School Students After The Covid-19 Pandemic, Jon A. Debord

Student Dissertations

The COVID-19 pandemic caused widespread disruption to K–12 education, with middle school mathematics among the most adversely affected subject areas. While prior research has documented pandemic-related learning loss, less is known about how recovery occurred in districts where mathematics performance rebounded. The purpose of this basic qualitative study was to explore middle school mathematics teachers’ perceptions of factors influencing post-pandemic academic recovery in selected Illinois public school districts that demonstrated high levels of mathematics recovery. Guided by Bronfenbrenner’s Bioecological Theory, this study examined how classroom, school, family, and district contexts shaped students’ recovery experiences. A basic qualitative research design was …

The Heart Of An Educator An Autoethnographic Study Of Homeschool Practices That Reflect Core Udl Principles, Kimberly Clinton 2026 University of Missouri-St. Louis

The Heart Of An Educator An Autoethnographic Study Of Homeschool Practices That Reflect Core Udl Principles, Kimberly Clinton

Dissertations

The Universal Design for Learning (UDL) framework was at the heart of this study, which served as a critical lens for examining the instructional design practices embedded in the homeschool environment. Specifically, I examined how the three core tenets of UDL: representation, action and expression, and engagement were reflected within the Clinton Homeschool Instructional Learning Design (CHILD). The aim was to identify how homeschool instruction, as implemented by the researcher, parallels UDL principles in its responsiveness to learner variability, its emphasis on flexible instructional delivery, and its commitment to student-centered engagement. In contrast to the dominant educational paradigm, which often …

Theoretical And Conceptual Approaches To Journalism Education, August E. Grant, Jeffrey S. Wilkinson, G. Nathan Carnes 2026 University of South Carolina

Theoretical And Conceptual Approaches To Journalism Education, August E. Grant, Jeffrey S. Wilkinson, G. Nathan Carnes

Faculty Publications

Many journalism programs embrace the teaching hospital model because of its practical approach, employing working journalists as journalism educators. However, critics contend a more conceptual model of journalism education is needed. This essay explores the literature on journalism education models and seeks to integrate the teaching hospital and entrepreneurial journalism approaches with the revised Bloom's Taxonomy and Fink's Taxonomy of Significant Learning. Combined, these models provide a solid theoretical foundation for practical, applied journalism education. This essay applies these four models to journalism education, yielding a matrix of dimensions that can guide the creation or modification of curricula as well …

White Undergraduate Students’ Perceptions Of Faculty Of Color, Jeffrey Cross 2026 Bellarmine University

White Undergraduate Students’ Perceptions Of Faculty Of Color, Jeffrey Cross

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Capstones

Despite decades of initiatives that promote the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education, the percentage of faculty who identify as people of Color still remains low. Experiences of discrimination and marginalization from White faculty colleagues and White students has been commonly reported by faculty of Color. While studies have examined these experiences from the faculty perspective, research addressing White students’ experiences with faculty of Color has been sparse. The purpose of this study was to examine White undergraduate students’ perceptions of faculty of Color at predominately White institutions and how these students understand the influence of racial …

Building School, Family, And Community Partnerships That Support Rural Diverse And Exceptional Learners, Jerrie L. Brooks, Brooke A. Moore, Megan S. Finnerty

The Rural Educator

Research demonstrates that school, family, and community partnerships are mutually beneficial, holding the potential to foster positive educational, emotional, and behavioral benefits for all students, especially diverse and exceptional students. Our qualitative study examined survey responses from 109 administrators, general and special educators, and parents in rural schools across western Kansas. We identified common barriers and successes to building parent partnerships related to communication, access, and attitudes about working with diverse and exceptional families. One major finding was the importance of “place”—rural communities are often close-knit and connected across generations. We propose a model that can be used by rural …

Institutionalizing Inclusive Education In East Africa: A Mixed-Methods Synthesis Of Pedagogical Impact And Teacher Professional Learning, Nyagwegwe Wango, Jane Rarieya

Institute for Educational Development, East Africa

East African teacher education reforms are placing a greater emphasis on inclusive and gender responsive pedagogy; yet, little research has been done on how these innovations are institutionalized outside of project cycles. In order to combine the results of two complimentary projects, the Strengthening Education Systems East Africa (SESEA) project and the Foundation for Learning (F4L) longitudinal research conducted in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, this study uses a comparative cross case synthesis design. Following the adoption of learner-centered and inclusive pedagogical practices, SESEA data shows moderate advances in numeracy and significant improvements in basic literacy. However, F4L evidence suggests that …

The Impact Of Targeted Professional Development On Principals’ Instructional Leadership And The Cultivation Of Positive School Culture, Anastasia M. Opahle

Dissertations

Effective principal leadership is the cornerstone of effective schools, as it has been shown to increase student success. In the State of Wisconsin, there is currently no requirement for ongoing professional development for principals. This study examined the impact of professional development targeted at principal leadership on student achievement and school culture. Using a mixed methods approach, results showed principals who participated in a yearlong principal cohort indicated their leadership skills improved. The qualitative data showed the participating principals believed the targeted professional development was collaborative, reflective, relevant, and actionable. This research indicates that sustained, targeted professional development is crucial …
