There is an inherent tension in the U.S. system of accreditation. Historically, the system has been one of self-regulation (Brittingham, 2009). As access to higher education has grown, however, and the concomitant flow of federal money to colleges and universities has increased, the federal government and the taxpayers it represents have called for more and more external reporting of measures of college quality. Any economist will tell you that the past attitude of the South Korean government with regard to foreign trade was anything but non-protectionist with high tariffs imposed on imports while pushing to export a wide range of products to as many countries as possible. In effect, the Korean government was exercising a lopsided trading policy. The purpose of this article is to examine how graduate educational leadership students engaged and developed competencies in a project-based learning environment. The project-based curriculum was designed to facilitate the development of team leadership skills as doctoral students applied the course concepts learned throughout their two-year cohort experience. The facilitator introduced the project-based group endeavor to the doctoral students in their first semester of course work. This paper reports results from a qualitative study that examined perceptions of administrative practice expressed by members of a grassroots teacher group committed to the practice of democratic education. The group (the Friday Roundtable) was comprised of K-12 public school teachers in rural Appalachian Ohio who spent considerable time together trying to answer the collective question how can we be better teachers? In today’s world of college basketball, the incidence of head coaching changes has hampered the experience and expectations for intercollegiate basketball players. The spring of every academic year experiences a ripple effect of hiring’s and firings throughout the college basketball landscape. The job changes of one institution caused by unexpected firings and resignations of head coaches affect every school participating as a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). These multidimensional scenarios impact between thirty to seventy-five college basketball head coaching positions out of three hundred twenty five throughout the nation annually.
