When navigating library resources, students often remain unaware of the cost of information, particularly scholarly academic journal articles– and rightly so, given that the mission of the library is to provide patrons with free access to information. Part of the ACRL Framework, nevertheless, entails teaching students about issues with lack of information access, which can be difficult to teach in higher education, where students might have never lacked access to quality information sources. This presentation will draw on a case study in which a recent graduate of a user experience design (UXD) program was able to apply UXD principles and research practices to increase the discoverability of training materials used by a library consortium. The case study presented will demonstrate to educators and students the importance of learning how UX laws can inform best practices for development, assessment, and iteration of digital spaces. Attendees will learn how laws/heuristics drawn from UXD play a critical role in ensuring that resources are accessible, intuitive, and engaging.

The use of simulation holds promise for the future of dietetics education for its use as an alternative for up to 30% of the 1,000 supervised practice hours for the training of Registered Dietitian Nutritionists. This mixed methods study compares how secondary school teachers implemented the 12-year Basic Education Reform in Taiwan in 2011 and 2021. Major sources of were surveys from sample teachers and students in sixteen sample schools. The survey asked how often a teaching or evaluation strategy was used. The conclusions of both studies indicate that teacher-directed lessons (teacher talk and questioning) dominated. The use of student-centred learning (SCL) methods (activities and group work) was limited. However, almost 30% of the sample students in both studies stated that the behaviour of students in the classroom was affecting their work. A major obstacle …

This study examines the concept of entrepreneurial citizenship and how it shapes entrepreneurs who embody both integrity and business acumen within the context of citizenship. Employing a qualitative approach with case study methodology, this research explores how the characteristics of civic entrepreneurs contribute to the development of business leaders who integrate civic values with entrepreneurial intelligence. Data collection methods include in-depth interviews with entrepreneurs exhibiting strong entrepreneurial citizenship attributes, participant observation, and the analysis of relevant documents. Science has increasingly become marginalized in the United States today. This is largely due to educational reforms and movements placing an emphasis on standardized testing and mastery of math and reading exclusively. This focus stems from initiatives such as the Back-to-the-Basics movement (1980s), the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) (2001), and the development of the Common Core standards (2010), which prioritize data collection and test results over the hands-on experiences and inquiry-based learning that good science education gives. The work conducted in this research builds on the work of many who have also worked to provide a platform to illuminate the voices of Black folks, especially Black boys. This research is not the first to make the case that Black boys are as fully human as anyone else, and yet they have internalized the white gaze, even as they are proud of their blackness, their color, their race, their culture. However, there exists limited research with Black boys in elementary school, particularly before the 5th grade (before 10 years of age).
