Entrepreneurial Orientation: An Investigation Into The Ecology Of "Eo" Measures, Sheryl Lynn Roberts
Management Dissertations - Archive
This dissertation is designed to investigate variables that may influence the application of Entrepreneurial Orientation (EO) related measures commonly used in Entrepreneurship research. It examines the theoretical development and application of the construct of Entrepreneurial Orientation's related scales over time, through an historical observation analysis. Theoretical foundations are traced, uncovering stages of development in purpose and application of EO scales. The study discusses level of analysis design and respondent perception factors unique to the setting of these scales. Empirical analysis examines level of analysis application associated with aspects of profiles, perceptions, and mechanics of respondents answering EO related measures. Several …

A Correlational Study Of Telework Frequency, Information Communication Technology, And Job Satisfaction Of Home-Based Teleworkers, Shana P. Webster-Trotman
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
In 2008, 33.7 million Americans teleworked from home. The Telework Enhancement Act (S. 707) and the Telework Improvements Act (H.R. 1722) of 2009 were designed to increase the number of teleworkers. The research problem addressed was the lack of understanding of factors that influence home-based teleworkers' job satisfaction. Job dissatisfaction has been found to have a significant impact on voluntary turnover. The purpose of the study was to assess the relationship among telework frequency, information communication technology (ICT), and job satisfaction. The research questions were designed to answer whether correlational relationships exist among telework frequency, ICT, and job satisfaction and …

The Influence Of Spirituality On Servant Leadership Among Small Business Entrepreneurs, Sharilyn D. Franklin
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Servant leadership, which promotes virtuousness and altruism, is gaining attention as a potential solution to the perceived leadership crisis, as evidenced by the ethical breakdown of some of America's largest corporations. Entrepreneurs, who represent 99% of all employers, play a significant role in the American economy as innovative risk takers and early adopters. As such, it is important to understand how they relate to servant leadership. The purpose of this quantitative study was to explore research questions related to (a) the extent to which servant leadership is practiced by small business entrepreneurs, and (b) the relationship between their levels of …

A Structural Equation Model Of The Factors Associated With Influence And Power Of It Departments And Their Relationship To Firm's It Orientation And Business Performance, Raghu V. Kowshik
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Although few firms can function without an information technology (IT) department, senior executives often consider IT as secondary. Historically, studies have found IT departments to have low influence and power status compared to other departments. Few, if any, studies have investigated what factors contribute to this subservient position. Three research questions that inspired this study regarding the IT department's influence and power included factors that shape the IT influence and power, the consequences for the firm's IT orientation and business performance, and how firm's IT orientation affects business performance. This quantitative study explored the notion that accountability, innovativeness, customer connectedness …

Impact Of Social Capital On Buyer Supplier Relationships In A Multi-Cultural Context, Sherry Avery
Business Administration Dissertations - Archive
Both manufacturers and service companies rely heavily on their suppliers to provide quality products and services. The management of these suppliers can be critical to the success of an organization. In this research study, the relationship between buying firms and their suppliers is examined and how it contributes to the overall performance of the buying firm. Prior research has confirmed that a strong buyer supplier relationship can have a positive impact on the buying firm's performance. However, these studies primarily examined relationships within the context of a western country. This study examines the similarities and differences in business practices that …

Temporary Network Development Capability In High Velocity Environements: A Dynamic Capability Study Of Disaster Relief Organizations, William Ross O'Brien
Business Administration Dissertations - Archive
Organizations involved in crisis relief after a natural disaster face the multifaceted challenge of significantly changing needs of their various stakeholders, limited, ambiguous and even incorrect information, and highly compressed time limitations. Yet the performance of these organization in these high velocity environments is critical for the lives and welfare of disaster victims. This research suggests that relief organizations that possess a dynamic capability to proactively form temporary networks are better suited to respond to crises. Further, the study identifies antecedents of such a temporary network development capability (TNDC), specifically prior network experience, swift trust, prior crisis experience, a generalist …

Resource Accumulation Dynamics During The New Venture Formation Process, Amy Gresock
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
As described by the resource-based view, resource accumulation is a key concern for new ventures. Although we know that getting the right resources is a critical issue to organizations, we know far less about how fledgling firms assemble these resources over time. The purpose of this study is to examine the dynamics of resource accumulation and their effect on performance and growth during new venture formation. In particular, I examine the constructs of financial capital, human capital, and performance, and will test relationships using a sample from the Kauffman Firm Survey (KFS) that provides the necessary data to test my …

Publications and Research
This study is one of the first that examines the impact of the current economic crisis on business and non-business sector’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts. We focus on one key CSR initiative, namely, the United Nations Global Compact (GC). Using survey data from a sample of GC participants in the US, we find that those reporting high CSR integration (i.e. into their policies, programs, performance, and goals), and those reporting lesser conformity to the active GC principles will be affected more by the crisis. Content analysis of CEO statements revealed critical obstacles in managing the risks and opportunities during …

Community ecologists, who consider the interdependence among organizations of different forms (Hannan and Freeman, 1986), have argued that that legitimacy can flow between organizational forms if they are sufficiently related or proximate in cognitive space (Ruef, 2000). De alio legitimation, the process by which an established population can facilitate the institutionalization of an emergent population, greatly minimizes the time period needed for the new form to achieve a taken-for-granted status (Dobrev, 2001). While some studies have looked at how this process operates across populations of organizations within the commercial sector, no study has looked at how this legitimacy might travel …

“When are you going to change this Children’s Safe Drinking Water program and make money for your company? Surely Procter & Gamble wants you to profit on the water purification technology—you can’t sustain your program as a non-profit!”
Greg Allgood sighed internally at this question, as it seemed to surface frequently despite the continued and rapid growth of the Children’s Safe Drinking Water (CSDW) program at P&G. Allgood (Director of the CSDW program) was not actually frustrated with the query, as he had an easy answer ready. Rather, he wished that people could more easily see how his team’s non-profit …

The DIT-ACHIEV Model is a model of sustainable tourism indicators developed in a previous research project undertaken by the School of Hospitality Management and Tourism, Dublin Institute of Technology. The indicators represent six fields of interest – Administration, Community, Heritage, Infrastructure, Enterprise and Visitor (Flanagan et al, 2007). This current research addresses the implementation of the DIT- ACHIEV model in an Irish tourism destination, with the objective to assess whether it can be implemented by the local community in any tourism destination.
The methodology used to implement the model is based on recommendations by Goodey (1995) and Denman (2006). Goodey …

In Sanjay Karki’s role as Deputy Director for the Nepal office of Mercy Corps, he had worked on a number of poverty reduction programs. But his current initiative presents the most daunting challenges he has yet faced. One of the most promising innovations in poverty alleviation was the concept of microfinance, the provision of small-scale loans and other financial services to poor entrepreneurs. And although the government of Nepal strongly supported microfinance models, a decade-long civil war ending in 2006 had severely disrupted government services and worsened poverty. In the terai, or plains, of Nepal, government and non-profit microfinance institutions …

This is an era marked by rapid technology development in all different educational arenas. Alongside this growing demand of technology, learning process is getting new forms and hence traditional teaching approaches tend to struggle and lack the requisite qualities to meet new generation expectations. In third level education, this problem is increasing in magnitude and new dimensions, especially when it comes to teaching difficult subjects such as supply chain management. Understanding the complexity of supply chain networks and how to manage them create a considerable level of difficulty for students and professionals. Collaboration between supply chain members is now recognised …

Bridging the gap between theory and practice has always been a key issue for students and graduates. The magnitude and scope of subject areas that students at third level institutions have to learn in theory means that visualising them without any practical experience can be very difficult. Understanding the complexity of supply chain networks and how to manage them create a considerable level of difficulty for students and professionals. Theories and applications included in supply chain management subjects are the key to empathise the real challenges. Nevertheless, teaching these theories needs substantial efforts and new innovative approaches to deliver the …

Satisfying customers by delivering demands at an agreed time, with competitive prices, and in satisfactory quality level are crucial requirements for supply chain survival. The incident of risks in supply chain often causes sudden disruptions in the processes and consequently leads to customers losing their trust in a company’s competence. Rush orders are considered to be one of the main types of supply chain risks due to their negative impact on the overall performance. Using integrated definition modelling approaches (i.e. IDEF0 & IDEF3) and simulation modelling technique, a comprehensive integrated model has been developed to assess rush order risks and …
