Lead Through Resources, Terri L. Griffith

Management & Entrepreneurship

The global economic situation pushes us all to make do with less. Many leaders are grappling with years of slow growth with continued high expectations for performance. The pressure is on to lead to the "next big thing," without more people or supporting resources. Leaders are challenged to squeeze water out of a rock- and it's a rock that has been squeezed for a long time. I do see hope, however. As Jim Kouzes notes: Challenge is the greatest opportunity for greatness!

Purpose – In today’s competitive scenario, effective supply chain management is increasingly dependant on third party logistics (3PL) companies’ capabilities and performance. The dissemination of information technology (IT) has contributed to change the supply chain role of 3PL companies and IT is considered an important element influencing performance of modern logistics companies. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to explore the relationship between IT and 3PLs’ performance, assuming that logistics capabilities play a mediating role in this relationship.

Design/methodology/approach – Empirical evidence based on a questionnaire survey conducted on a sample of logistics service companies operating in the Italian …

Upjohn Institute Policy Paper: Public Pension Crisis And Investment Risk Taking: Underfunding, Fiscal Constraints, Public Accounting, And Policy Implications, Nancy Mohan, Ting Zhang

Economics and Finance Faculty Publications

Public pension funds that cover retirement benefits for almost 20 million active or retired employees have been significantly underfunded. An important, though largely overlooked, issue related to pension underfunding is the excessive investment risk levels assumed by public plans. Our analysis suggests government accounting standards strongly affect public fund investment risk, as higher return assumptions (used to discount pension liabilities) are associated with higher investment risk.

Public funds undertake more risk if they are underfunded and have lower investment returns in previous years, consistent with the risk transfer hypothesis. Furthermore, pension funds in states facing fiscal constraints allocate more assets …

Business Plan For A Benefit Concert, Adam Rosenthal 2012 Whittier College

Business Plan For A Benefit Concert, Adam Rosenthal

Whittier Scholars Program

My main focus in creating this business plan is to map out how to run a schedule of operations. This is the type of business plan that a benefit calls for, instead of creating a business plan for the creation of a new business or venture. My main objective in creating this business plan for a benefit concert is to be able to create something tangible that I can share, as well as share the real world knowledge that I have gained in researching, and putting together this business plan. With this project I have gained real music industry knowledge …

Agenda: Air Quality Impacts From Oil And Gas Development, University Of Colorado Boulder. Natural Resources Law Center

Air Quality Impacts from Oil and Gas Development (January 27)

Oil and gas development and hydraulic fracturing have received enormous attention over the past few years, and most of that attention has focused on the potential impacts of such development on water quality. However, the potential impacts on air quality from oil and gas development have received far less public and media attention and discussion. This two-hour program will assess the current scientific knowledge, regulatory requirements and policies regarding the impacts on air quality from oil and gas development and will address current initiatives at the state and national levels to further regulate and control those impacts.
