Competitive Market Research And Product Design, Haixiu WANG 2014 Lingnan University

Competitive Market Research And Product Design, Haixiu Wang

Lingnan Theses

To learn the uncertainty of customer preference on the attribute of new product, usually a firm needs to do market research. Developing a product on an attribute which is less preferred by customer may lead to a failure. In addition, a firm used to take efforts to design the product. In recent years, we observed a new business model in which the firm does not take effort to design new product, nor does she do market research by herself. She provides rewards to attract outside designers to design new product. Some designers may take effort and design products based on …

An Inquiry Into The Aviation Management Education Paradigm Shift, Matthew P. Earnhardt, Jason M. Newcomer, Daryl V. Watkins, James W. Marion

International Journal of Aviation, Aeronautics, and Aerospace

Working adults with four-year degrees from accredited colleges or universities earn, on average, almost three times more than individuals without a degree. This pay gap led Newcomer and his colleagues to study attitudes of aviation and aerospace managers towards education. That study found that managers valued education in new hires, even though they did not deem it critical to their own positions. That finding indicated a potential paradigm shift towards the perceived value of education in the industry.

In the current qualitative, phenomenological research, we interviewed 14 managers from various capacities within the aviation and aerospace industries to determine the …

Ethical Leadership: Creating Ethical Organizations, Alexander C. Heckman 2014 Franklin University

Ethical Leadership: Creating Ethical Organizations, Alexander C. Heckman

Learning Showcase 2014

Many scholars examine this issue primarily from an individual perspective and in abstract or stylistic manner in which the leader serves as sort of an ethical judge making a ruling.

This poster examines the issue of ethical leadership from an organizational and practical perspective where a leader must think systemically about how to create an ethical organization. In doing so, the leader has to think like an engineer who takes action to design organizational structures that shape and direct action systematically in order to help create an ethical environment. The author applies systems thinking and uses the McKinsey 7-S to …

Incumbent Decisions About Succession Transitions In Family Firms: A Conceptual Model, Britta Boyd, Isabel C. Botero, Tomasz A. Fediuk 2014 University of Southern Denmark, Denmark

Incumbent Decisions About Succession Transitions In Family Firms: A Conceptual Model, Britta Boyd, Isabel C. Botero, Tomasz A. Fediuk

Management Faculty Publications

In the family business literature, succession research has focused on the family member as they enter the leadership role or on the different issues that affect the succession process. Although researchers have acknowledged that succession in family businesses is “punctuated” by decision making events, less attention has been given to understanding how incumbents make decisions about ownership and management transitions. In an effort to continue to understand the succession process it is important to understand how incumbents make decisions about the type of transitions they intend to engage in (i.e., intra-family succession, out of family succession, or no succession). Building …

Are All Shares Equal? A Measure Of Secondary Agency Conflict And An Examination Of Its Influence On Investor Reactions To Acquisition Announcements, Christine C. Sutton

Dissertations, Theses and Capstone Projects (Full IR Collection)

The separation of ownership and control has been established as the source of primary agency conflict between managers and shareholders. The research presented in the chapters that follow explain how the combination of ownership and control also represent a significant problem for many dispersed shareholders. Prior research has argued that conflict among principals is pervasive in all types of corporations and may be detrimental to all the firm’s stakeholders. Scholars have investigated the relationships, but there existed no comprehensive and validated instrument to analyze the extent of the inequity among the various firm principals. In the following chapters, a composite …

Modeling Diversity Management Practices In Corporate Ethics: The Spillover Effect, Yves-Rose SaintDic 2014 Kennesaw State University

Modeling Diversity Management Practices In Corporate Ethics: The Spillover Effect, Yves-Rose Saintdic

Dissertations, Theses and Capstone Projects (Full IR Collection)

Little is known about the relationship between workplace diversity and corporate ethics even though these two initiatives share similar ethical roots (Alder & Gilbert, 2006), and are quite popular in corporate America (Kochan, Bezrukova, Ely, Jackson, Joshi, Jehn, Leonard, Levine, & Thomas, 2003; Murphy, 2001). This study seeks to contribute to knowledge in these two areas by assessing whether diversity’s contributions to firm performance are maximized through its effects on the firm’s ethical processes. Using data that were collected on a sample of Fortune 500 firms, this study tested several hypotheses with predictor variables that represent two manifestations of diversity …

Geography Of Firms And Propagation Of Local Economic Shocks, Gennaro BERNILE, George Korniotis, Alok Kumar 2014 Singapore Management University

Geography Of Firms And Propagation Of Local Economic Shocks, Gennaro Bernile, George Korniotis, Alok Kumar

Research Collection Lee Kong Chian School Of Business

This study shows that the geographical distribution of publicly-traded firms generates an economic network that links the economic environments of all U.S. states. Using a novel measure of economic linkages among publicly-traded firms, we build a state-level network of economic connections and show that local economic shocks propagate through this geographical network. Specifically, for each state, we identify U.S. states that are economically relevant for firms headquartered in that state and show that economic conditions in economically relevant states predict the economic environment in the headquarter state. These results do not merely reflect the impact of omitted common national shocks. …

Establishing A Benchmark Of Fuel Efficiency For Commercial Airline Operations, Samuel Chandra, Chetan K. Chitgopeker, Ben Crawford, John Dwyer, Yi Gao 2014 Swinburne University of Technology (Australia)

Establishing A Benchmark Of Fuel Efficiency For Commercial Airline Operations, Samuel Chandra, Chetan K. Chitgopeker, Ben Crawford, John Dwyer, Yi Gao

Journal of Aviation Technology and Engineering

Fuel efficiency is vital for commercial airlines as fuel is one of the most costly items for airline operations. This study aims to compare fuel efficiencies of selected airlines around the globe and to build a benchmark of fuel efficiency that can be referred to by airlines. By using data on fuel consumption and traffic output collected from various sources including airline annual reports, environmental reports and sustainability reports, this study calculated fuel efficiencies measured by liters of fuel consumed per revenue tonne kilometer (RTK) for the selected airlines in the calendar year 2011 or financial year 2010–2011. Airlines were …
