Beyond Industry 4.0 (I4.0), the COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the adoption of digital technologies by enterprises, underscoring the need for workers to continuously upskill their digital competencies in order to remain relevant (Heinonen & Strandvik, 2021). Besides digitisation, organisations have had to innovate and adopt new business models to adapt to the ‘new normal’ of surviving and growing beyond the COVID-19 pandemic (Heinonen & Strandvik, 2021). In countries that largely relied on skilled migration …

Three Essays On Addressing Risks Under The Servicizing Business Model, Tina Arabian

Theses and Dissertations (Comprehensive)

In view of the recent trend to prioritize access to a product over ownership, manufacturers may consider switching from selling their product to servicizing. The benefits of the servicizing business model, under which a firm sells the use or functionality of a product rather than the product itself, extend beyond providing firms with new economic opportunities. It is also recognized as a sustainable business model because it encourages firms and customers to be more conscious of product design and consumption patterns, respectively. Although this business model offers opportunities to the environment and the economy, it entails the risks of product …

Risk has been a fixture in the business landscape since the beginning of time. Over the years, new techniques, such as Enterprise Risk Management (ERM), have emerged to help leaders address multiple and complicated risks, but the ability to measure and therefore manage those risks are key. Today, strategic planners face an environment where certain risks are neither calculable nor transferrable. This article defines strategic risks and proposes a new tool strategy teams can use to monitor and manage these risks to their advantage: the Strategic Uncertainty Map.

Adapting To Slow-Moving Crises: The Personal Protection Equipment Supply Chain In The Time Of Covid19, Jennifer Shullih, Stephen Lemay

AMTP Proceedings 2021

In this paper, we look at the supply chain for PPE during the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020. We look at the way the supply chain has responded to the pandemic, the coordination of the supply chain relative to the needs of primary users, and the consequences of its use. We find that the supply chain has continued to function more as a commercial supply chain than as an emergency supply chain largely because of a lack of centralized coordination. We include an analysis of existing concepts as they apply to this supply chain, but also incorporate preliminary results from a …

Despite concern about the spread of the virus, not a few women with a different status (single/married/single parent) become career women while performing most of the role of parenting during the pandemic. Tax policy plays an important role in supporting individuals and businesses when we navigate this crisis. The impact of gender in taxation has not been the primary focus of the government at this moment and it has become a serious problem for gender equality in Indonesia. The purpose of the study …
