In postwar America, women challenged tradition by continuing a trend started in the Second World War, asserting their presence in the workforce both physically and visually with the advent of Tina Leser’s designs. Leser’s designs reached the everyday woman, and Joel’s photographs reached the average American, bringing greater awareness to the ongoing question as to women’s role in society. Both Yale Joel’s photographs and Tina Leser’s designs take part in the changing definition of femininity. While there is significant evidence of Lévi-Strauss’s model of women as material signifiers of male intent present in Better Off Dead, two characters undercut the absoluteness of this theory. Monique freely dwelled outside of the realm of the system, indicating that there are alternate models. Lane’s willingness to and success in denying the system and departing from it indicates that even those within the system are not inevitably bound to the tenets of the theory.

While postwar German women were portrayed as gritty and strong from their lived experiences, West German newspapers articles reiterated the contradictory roles proffered to women in German society. Rather than speaking up against the genre’s masculine dominance, popular western novels, films, and the press continued to reinforce widely held opinions and norms by encouraging women to be content with the ideal female character offered them.

In order to demonstrate the way his female characters rhetorically share agency with biological matter and inanimate objects within the social constructions of his novels, my thesis aims to reveal how the works of Milan Kundera can be explored through a posthumanist, feminist lens. Because several of the female characters are ontologically diminished to their female body by societal constructs, they are well aware that the body is not lacking rhetorical determination despite it being objectified due to gender binaries. This paper addresses the instances of rape in Sam Raimi's 1981 film The Evil Dead in comparison with Fede Alavarez's 2013 remake, Evil Dead. It explores the implications that these depictions of violence on film have on American culture, victim blaming, and gender inequality.

Celebrating Scholarship & Creativity Day (2011-2017)
Prior research has shown differences in student's evaluations of male and female professors. This study was designed to examine if these gender differences occurred in mediocre professors. Participants read a mediocre female or male candidate's teaching philosophy and an evaluation by a colleague. They were then asked to evaluate the candidate. The materials were identical except for the gender of the candidate. It was predicted that mediocre female candidates would be punished to a greater extent than mediocre male candidates. No significant results were found - possibly due to a floor effect.

After their release in 2001, Bratz dolls carved into Barbie’s previously monopolistic share of teen doll sales. Amidst their growing popularity, cultural critics expressed a host of concerns about Bratz dolls, especially over how they sexualize youth, but the line grew to include a host of products like costumes, makeup kits, games, books, clothing, and movies. It also inspired new, similar doll lines from other toy companies. In this article, we situate the Bratz’s popularity in a specific cultural moment tied to the history of modern feminism. This digital anthology explores feminism in selected short fiction by women writers from the 1911 run of the popular women’s magazines Woman’s Home Companion, Ladies’ Home Journal, and The Farmer’s Wife. This fiction furthered the women’s rights movement by allowing women to imagine a world similar to their own with a heroine who voiced their desires and enacted change. In India, practices relating to pregnancy, childbirth and child development have been rooted in cultural beliefs and traditions that are based on knowledge contained in ancient Indian texts. Many Indians residing across the globe continue to observe these practices. Some may find it challenging to do so when they are residing abroad, away from familiar surroundings and separated from their extended families.
