The Syllabus for Bio. 013, Writing in the Sciences - Evolutionary Themes, is a College Writing 2 course that develops student skill in science writing for different audiences: Scientists writing for themselves (the Field journal); Scientists writing for other scientists (the Review article); and Scientists writing for students/ society ( an Essay for a periodical that utilizes analogy/metaphor). To inform this writing, students read and discuss Darwin's original works and the writings of more contemporary evolutionary theorists, including E. Mayr and S.J. Gould. This course is appropriate for incoming students as well as more advanced biology students.

This study asks: How do middle school students attending a Spanish and English dual immersion program develop their biliteracy skills differently based on the extent of their exposure to and practice of both languages in the home environment? Deborah Brandt argues that sponsors invest in literacy tools in order to give other people access to language resources, allowing communication to be fostered through the passing on of information, as done between different generations. Can acts of making carry the memories of our embeddedness within the world? This thesis explores how making things can nurture a sense of kinship that cuts across the organic and inorganic, erasing the distinction between living and dead, material and spiritual. Through handwork such as art-making, sewing, knitting, cooking, woodworking, and beyond, the burden of remembering and of archiving is shared across human and non-human bodies, cultivated through practices of making, and through the materials themselves.
