A Midwestern Review: A Magazine of the Arts and Issues at DePauw University
Justus Morgan is a Song major in his senior year at DePauw. He is delighted by those places beyond the expanding frontiers of his knowledge and writes about everything from not falling in love to imaginary wetlands to that one look from Margiela's S/S 1990 runway show. He recommends skygazing.

Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The Incredible Is is a full-length philosophical play in two acts that follows Self — a man whose body contains the visible cosmos — as he travels existence with his companion Cosmic Cat in search of his creator, the "Ultimate Personifier." Along the way he encounters personified abstractions including You, Them, We, Power, Pleasure and Pain, Creator and Destroyer, and falls in love with Magic. When his obsession with finding his maker leads him to break the Rules and plunge the universe into chaos, God resets reality and Self at last confronts the Ultimate Personifier — only to discover a …

Building upon the previous examination of the eddic and skaldic contours of Goldberry’s River kenning names, this reading of Goldberry’s enigma focuses on the mythological referents of her kinship relations and their narrative consistency in the legendarium. Tending to the intrinsic connection between “[t]he incarnate mind, the tongue, and the tale” (Tolkien, On Fairy Stories, 41), I contend that the poetics of kenning diction sustain if not demand a reading of the River-woman references mythologically through …

Martin Tawney's Guide To The Middle Of Nowhere, Daniel D. Graham
English Honors Projects
Martin Tawney’s Guide to the Middle of Nowhere is a portion of a novel that parodies Akira Kurosawa’s 1961 samurai film Yojimbo. Yojimbo is a trickster narrative which drew influence from the noir genre and went on to influence other Westerns. This project turns that story into one about a travel writer who visits a town with two feuding hotels. The travel writer escalates the feud to create the story he wants to tell, but he loses control over it. The project explores what a trickster narrative looks like when the trickster cannot maintain their power over the story.
