Long Term Conditions (LTCs) are increasing in prevalence and cost in Western healthcare. Patients with such conditions are often classed as “disabled”, because of impacts of self-care on “activities of daily life” or secondary consequences of conditions (impairments) affecting factors such as mobility, concentration and communications. Disability needs are often ignored in the design of services and treatment of individuals. It manifests as services which some find difficult to use and lack of personal respect (discrimination) often based on lack of understanding by the healthcare profession itself (ignorance). Be Your Own Guru: Authoritarianism And The Problem Of The Guru In Conscious Evolution, Mcauley, Charles E.

This paper is an exploration of the problematic nature of the guru/disciple relationship, specifically, in Western Society. It begins with a discussion of the nature of spirituality and the spiritual quest. To contextualize the process, I also discuss my own spiritual path based in Roman Catholicism, Taoism, Buddhism and my thoughts on the philosophy of Krishnamurti. I explore the topic of the authoritarian follower in some depth. Its connection is symbiotic to the existence of the authoritarian leader. This connection is demonstrated within this paper as well. Parents’ Views Of Video Games: Habitus Forms In The Context Of Parental Mediation, Henrike Friedrichs, Friederike Von Gross, Katharina Herde, Uwe Sander

Journal of Media Literacy Education

This paper is based on a research project conducted in 2014 on parental attitudes to, and their mediation of, video games. Qualitative, semi-structured interviews with 28 parents (14 couples) explored their media-related habitus, their media-educational habitus and the interaction between the habitus. The results show, inter alia, that the media-related habitus has a significant influence on the media-educational habitus.
