2018 College Authors

I also want to take …

Apples And Glaciers: Students Spark Interdisciplinary Research Collaborations, Salma Monani

2018 College Authors

It is an honor to be here. I want to begin by thanking the library for supporting so many of us in our creative and scholarly work. Quite frankly, it would be impossible for me to do my work without these amazing librarians. They deserve the real applause at this event!

Robin invited my colleague, Dr. Sarah Principato and me to give these opening remarks. Sarah, however, had to give a research talk at Franklin & Marshall, so she was unsure if she would be back in time. I am happy to see that she has been able to make …

This poster provides basic information about what Open Education is and how it is a response to the high cost of course materials, which creates barriers for many students who cannot afford to purchase their books. Engaging Student Journal Editors, Janelle L. Wertzberger

Janelle Wertzberger

Editing and publishing a student research journal is a high-impact educational practice that libraries are uniquely suited to support. Gettysburg College’s Musselman Library hosts three student-edited journals in our open access institutional repository. We train student editors to use the online journal publishing platform to receive, assign, and review submissions. We also expose them to the scope of undergraduate publishing beyond our institution, describe the benefits of open access publishing to authors (including sharing their own use metrics), invite professors who edit professional journals to share their expertise with the students, and facilitate a discussion about how their editing process …

During my summer research I saw a lot of these windows pop up on my computer screen. One dead end followed by another. I grew weary of not having access to the studies that were highly pertinent to my area of research. Although my frustrations were never abated, I accepted this as my reality. I’ve acquiesced to the idea that my future as a researcher will be filled with endless hours of staring at a computer screen …
