The Anchor: 2018

The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). As of Fall 2019 The Anchor has moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.

As academic institutions focus attention on student retention and rising higher education costs, increasing attention has been paid to reducing the costs of instructional materials. Studies show that the high cost of textbooks, for instance, can impact student course choices, academic performance, and retention. Many faculty have found free, open textbooks and other open educational resources to be a successful alternative to expensive commercial textbooks. This study aims to identify and analyze the availability collections of Library Center of IAIN Surakarta, and the factors that influence the availability of materials teaching for Islamic Counseling and Guidance Study Programme. This research is a qualitative and quantitative methode. Data analysis was carried out using the checklist and interview. Based on the research, 49,5% availability collections for institute level courses, and 44.7% for departement level. Based on the findings research, Library Center of IAIN Surakarta collections has not fulfilled the need for compulsory teaching materials. The library is an institution aims to provide information for its users. Whether its success or not it depends on the ability of a library manager. There are two types of librarians; librarians who had formal library education background and librarians who had library training background. Their difference competencies, resulting from different background, makes it interesting to explore. This research aims to compare librarians’ competencies who had difference background. Librarians, as department liaisons, are a natural choice for guiding faculty, students, and tenure and promotion committees in understanding and responsibly applying altmetrics and bibliometrics, including the Relative Citation Ratio (RCR), to evaluate the impact of contemporary health sciences scholars. Objective: To find simple, fast, and easy ways to assess library users’ needs and to get real-time responses in order to shorten the interval between deploying surveys, gathering responses and implementation of solutions. In the past the library employed email surveys to assess user needs but the process was inefficient and ineffective due to low response rates and time spent creating online surveys. Methods: The library team began using paper “micro-assessments” to understand users’ needs. Objective: The objective of this project was to build an online resource that will help guide residents through their Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) scholarly activity requirement by providing guidelines, advice, and resources on publishing, presenting, and research. Methods: The Clinical Services Librarian first met with the Graduate Medical Education (GME) office to determine the needs of the residencies and clarify current ACGME requirements.
