Application Of Remote Sensing And Gis Techniques In Mapping Areas Favourable For Fadama Farming In Gwagwalada, Abuja, Nigeira, Olarewaju Oluseyi Ifatimehin
Olarewaju Oluseyi Ifatimehin
Because of the important and scarcity of fadama land as well as needs for sustainable development, mapping of areas favourable for fadama farming is likely to be reliable step towards effective fadama farming and rural development in Gwagwalada area. In this study Remote Sensing and GIS techniques were utilized to map out areas that can be favourable for fadama farming. Four steps were followed in mapping areas that are favourable for fadama farming (i) the vector maps were first scanned into Microsoft word software from where it was transferred into the ILWIS GIS software and were digitized on-screen to generate …
The Spatial Pattern Of Commercial Banks In Kogi State Of Nigeria, Olarewaju Oluseyi Ifatimehin
The Spatial Pattern Of Commercial Banks In Kogi State Of Nigeria, Olarewaju Oluseyi Ifatimehin
Olarewaju Oluseyi Ifatimehin
This study examines the relationship of commercial banks distribution across geographic space and the socio-economic potentials therein. Ground truthing and socio-economic survey were employed to ascertain the number of banks available in each senatorial district of the state and to ascertain the socio-economic profile of the users of these banks respectively. Statistical technique was use in the analysis of market segmentation through factor and cluster analysis, and GIS techniques for spatial analysis. It was discovered that the major factor responsible for the spatial variation in the clustering of banks is the distribution of government owned parastatals and Industries in the …

The urban centre and its suburban environment are largely influenced by changes driven by people as a result of urbanization and other anthropogenic activities. Urbanization impacts on air and water quality, local climate and biodiversity. This study assesses the Urban Heat Island (UHI) of Lokoja town and surroundings from LandSat ETM satellite imagery of 2001 using remote sensing techniques. Band 3, 4 and 6 of the imagery were use in the estimation of NDVI, land surface emissivity and surface temperature. The results show that urban heat island in Lokoja town is significant, with average Land surface temperature values range from …
Empirical Analysis Of Poverty And Inequality In West Virginia, Hector Addison
Empirical Analysis Of Poverty And Inequality In West Virginia, Hector Addison
Hector Addison
Poverty and income inequality have attracted a lot of attention in recent literature and policy discussions. Using Ordinary Least Squares and Two stage least squares and cross sectional data for all counties in West Virginia, this study examines the determinants of poverty and income inequality and possibility of simultaneous relationship between them. Findings indicate there is a weak simultaneous relationship and income inequality is declining among aged 65 and above. Education, seen as social equalizer does not provide any evidence in reducing income inequality in West Virginia but as more and more women take up headship in families, poverty and …

Ghana, like many developing economies has a huge agricultural based with cocoa being the major export commodity. Since independence in 1957, Ghana had struggled to put together and implement and model of development that guarantees better life for her citizenry. This paper looks at one such document and analyzes it from agriculture perspective in the context of present realities. It is clear that Ghana stands to gain from a transformed agricultural sector which might lead the way to discover the eluded glory as a resource endowed nation

Mount Hope River Watershed - Watershed-Based Plan Of Conservation, Denise Burchsted
Denise Burchsted
This project involved data collection in the Mount Hope River watershed for use in conservation planning in that watershed and in the larger Naubesatuck watershed in northeastern Connecticut. Data collection was comprised of the following: 1) stream assessments, which were GIS-based with ground truthing where possible and needed, and 2) existing plans of conservation and/or development in the watershed.

The ultimate goal of any credible and legitimate government is to ensure sustained improvement in the provision of basic water utility and its effectiveness in the efficient delivery of this service to the citizenry. The importance and implication of efficient delivery of portable water and its management, and also access to hygienic sanitation facilities are of utmost importance to every human sector. Field survey and the review of technical and research literatures were done to generate the data and information used for the study. Simple statistics were used in its analyses and GIS techniques for spatial analysis. It was observed …

The ineffectiveness of environmental awareness in the society today has been a major source of concern to stakeholders. Environmental degradation and its problems are increasing geometrically with industrailization and agricultural intensification. This study examines the role of religious organizations especially the church in environmental matters. It x-rayed the level of environmental awareness in the church and suggests how the church can create environmental awareness among its members. Questionnaire were administered and analysed. The study revealed a low level of awareness among members of the church and their willingness to be enlightened on environmental issues. finally, the church accepted to be …

An Analysis Of Urban Expnasion And Loss Of Vegetation Cover In Lokoja, Using Gis Techniques, Olarewaju Oluseyi Ifatimehin
Olarewaju Oluseyi Ifatimehin
Since Lokoja became an administrative headquarters of Kogi State in 1991, it has been experiencing rapid expansion, urbanization and significant changes in its physical landscape – land use and land cover changes. This study uses remote sensing and GIS techniques combined with field checks and survey to map land use and land cover changes and to measure the rate of urban expansion and loss of vegetation in Lokoja between 1987 and 2005. There was a considerable change in land use types over the said period of the study. The built-up area, vacant land, cultivated land and other land use type …

Transboundary environmental problems do not distinguish between political boundaries. Global warming is expected to cause thermal expansion of water and melt glaciers. Both are predicted to lead to a rise in sea level. We must enlarge our paradigms to encompass a global reality and reliance upon global participation.
Interorganizational Considerations In Coastal Management: The 1976 California Legislative Experience, Herman L. Boschken
Interorganizational Considerations In Coastal Management: The 1976 California Legislative Experience, Herman L. Boschken
Herman L. Boschken
Among coastal management programs, most states have found the question of appropriate administrative structure difficult to cope with. The dilemma of decision trade-offs caused by the dual governmental needs of "efficiency" and "representation" has led to some alternative patterns of administration. For complex issues that transcend local boundaries, the choice between trade-offs means adopting either (a) some form of consolidated bureaucracy or (b) some system of concurrent jurisdictions. Both alternatives have their inherent benefits and disadvantages but, considering the degree of environmental complexity and array of competing interests involved in coastal resource use, the most appropriate administrative form would seem …
