On a campus where women make up a majority of the student population, it is especially important that female voices are heard and given a platform on which they can control their own narrative. I wanted to give those female-identifying voices that platform. I conducted a series of interviews to examine how college-aged female-identifying students feel about their identity and how they construct that identity within the climate of the JMU community. Monte-Sano et al describe a program in which they worked with curriculum leaders in an academically and culturally diverse school district to develop materials and techniques that would strengthen middle school students' skills in making arguments and using evidence in historical essays. They outline the Shays' Rebellion investigation activity, which enable students to develop inquiry and literacy practices as they integrate critical reading, historical thinking, and argument writing.

What Is Writing In Undergraduate Anthropology? An Activity Theory Analysis, Boba M. Samuels

How students learn to write in the disciplines is a question of ongoing concern in writing studies, with practical implications for academia. This case study used ethnographic methods to explore undergraduate writing in two upper year anthropology courses at a Canadian university over one term (four months). Student and professor interviews, classroom field notes, surveys, and students’ final papers were analysed using a framework drawn from activity theory and informed by genre theory. Four themes emerged from the data: anthropology as school; the familiar vs. unfamiliar; reading; and hidden rhetoric. The Effects Of Charismatic Communication Training On Leader Communication Effectiveness, Paul Fabbi

This study investigated whether a two-hour leadership course in charismatic communication would result in improved leader communication effectiveness. Ninety two organizational leaders participated in the study, as well as 955 of their followers. Leader participants were divided into experimental and control conditions and a pretest-posttest research design was used to evaluate the effects of training on leader charismatic communication self-efficacy and charismatic communication behaviors. Follower perception of leader communication effectiveness was evaluated using a simple time series design. Results indicated those in the training condition had significantly greater charismatic communication self-efficacy and behavioral ability than those in the non-training condition. …
