Management Measures For The Cockburn Sound Mussel Fishery., H. G. Brayford
Fisheries management papers
The Cockburn Sound professional fishery has seen a rapid increase in fishing effort in recent years. In response to this Cockburn Sound has been declared to be a restricted area for commercial fishing pending the introduction of long term management measures. Interim endorsements have therefore been issued for commercial fishing within Cockburn Sound.
A Perspective On Differential Services In Counseling: Altruism And Likeness, James Latimore
A Perspective On Differential Services In Counseling: Altruism And Likeness, James Latimore
The Journal of Sociology & Social Welfare
In this exploratory study using a small sample, an attempt is made to understand the differential services provided by vocational counselors in a non-profit agency, a setting in which a strong identification with clients is encouraged. The services are measured and the unequal measures of service are related to the degree to which the client is seen as an image of the counselor in certain respects. Counseling is viewed as an altruistic occupation and the differential services are analyzed in this context. In general, it is suggested that the differential counseling and psycho-therapeutic services noted by other writers all reflect …

The Impact Of Reserve Requirements On Free Bank Failures, Andrew J. Economopoulos
The Impact Of Reserve Requirements On Free Bank Failures, Andrew J. Economopoulos
Business and Economics Faculty Publications
The Free Banking Era, noted for numerous bank failures and large creditor losses, has been traditionally viewed as the experiment in laissez-faire banking that failed. Current researchers have found evidence suggesting that bank failures and creditor losses were limited to selected states and have linked the cause of bank failures to periods of falling asset prices. Free banks were required to hold long-term assets as primary reserves for short-term liabilities. Current banking theory suggests that the maturity imbalance between assets and liabilities increases the free bank's exposure to interest rate risk. Some states imposed a secondary reserve, the specie reserve …

Position Paper For The 1986 Tavertet Spain Colloquium On Cultural Resistance, Robert K. Thomas
Robert K. Thomas
For most minority peoples in the world today, cultural resistance and cultural survival is dependent on their continuing social survival. Many minority peoples are modernly citizens of large nation-states, surrounded by numerous and very different majority groups. Their continued existence is tenuous, to say the least. This is particularly true of small tribal nationalities in some parts of the world.

Is Increased Price Flexibility Stabilizing?, J. Bradford Delong, Lawrence Summers
J. Bradford DeLong
This paper uses John Taylor's model of overlapping contracts to show that increased wage and price flexibility can easily be destabilizing because of the Mundell effect. Simulations based on "realistic" parameter values suggest that increases in price flexibility might well increase the cyclical variability of output in the United States.

Holidays As Multiple Realities: Experiencing Good Times And Bad Times After A Disabling Injury, Mary Jo Deegan
Holidays As Multiple Realities: Experiencing Good Times And Bad Times After A Disabling Injury, Mary Jo Deegan
The Journal of Sociology & Social Welfare
Holidays are idealized as times of celebration. They are embedded in cultural symbols, family patterns, and lived experience. Because all holidays are not good times, however, the lived experience of holidays is considerably more complex than its symbolization. This ambivalence is dramatically deepened for recently disabled adults who view holidays as a specially strained time of remembrance. Past holidays are often idealized in a new way as one's biography is placed into a new embodied reality. Simultaneously, holidays remain days when one is supposed to celebrate, and often denote some celebration for the injured. The resulting experience is a melange …
A Time-Management Procedure For Helping Graduate Students Accomplish Academic Tasks, Yousef Abdulwahab Abuhmaidan
A Time-Management Procedure For Helping Graduate Students Accomplish Academic Tasks, Yousef Abdulwahab Abuhmaidan
Masters Theses
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of time-management and a task checklist on task completion, the amount of study time and students' grade point average (GPA). A package consisting of a time-management calendar and a task checklist was provided to five Jordanian students. A multiple-baseline across subjects design was used. Individual weekly meetings were conducted to assess the progress of the students on the use of the time-management calendar and task checklist. Students were asked to bring proof of accomplishments for the completed tasks. During the study the completion of tasks went from 64.6% to 92.2% …

Measuring Domestic Violence In An Alcoholic Population, Larry R. Livingston
Measuring Domestic Violence In An Alcoholic Population, Larry R. Livingston
The Journal of Sociology & Social Welfare
A survey of 107 adults receiving residential treatment for substance abuse was conducted, to determine characteristics of domestic violence in relationships. The survey incorporated instruments to measure the degree of substance abuse (the Michigan Alcoholism Screening Test or MAST) as well as types and frequencies of domestic violence (the Conflict Tactics Scale or CTS-N). Findings are then compared to a national study of 2143 normals (Straus, Gelles, & Steinmetz, 1980) to ascertain differences in domestic violence.
Findings indicate that 83% of alcoholic subjects behaved violently in past relationships, compared to 28% of the normal population. Fifty-five percent of the alcoholics …

This thesis is to serve as an investigation and response into the architectural issue of scale juxtaposition. In this case the condition which occurs is the result of a modern feat of engineering at one scale, disrupting and imposing itself onto an urban and historical context which is at a more intimate scale. Consequently, there is a loss of identity or spatial relationships in the urban context, which may have existed prior to this modern intervention. It is my goal to take advantage and develop a response to these disparate scales and their images. It is also the opportunity for …
