García V. The City Of Taft - The Struggle For Representation, Joseph J. Garcia Jul 2009

García V. The City Of Taft - The Struggle For Representation, Joseph J. Garcia

Chicano, Hispano, Latino Library Program

The case for this paper is based on García v. Taft, which was heard in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas, Corpus Christi Division, Civil Action NO. C-84-230, in 1985. The final decision was made in 1989. The case addresses a gerrymandered, at-large election system in the City of Taft, which was used to keep African-American and Mexican-American residents from taking part in city elections. The gerrymandered city boundaries did not include a large portion of the city inhabited by the Mexican-American voting block. To this day, a large part of this voting block is …

Studies In Statistical Inference, Sampling Techniques And Demography, Florentin Smarandache, Rajesh Singh, Jayant Singh

Branch Mathematics and Statistics Faculty and Staff Publications

This volume is a collection of five papers. Two chapters deal with problems in statistical inference, two with inferences in finite population, and one deals with demographic problem. The ideas included here will be useful for researchers doing works in these fields. The following problems have been discussed in the book: Chapter 1. In this chapter optimum statistical test procedure is discussed. The test procedures are optimum in the sense that they minimize the sum of the two error probabilities as compared to any other test. Several examples are included to illustrate the theory. Chapter 2. In testing of hypothesis …

Reservation For Other Backward Classes In Indian Central Government Institutions Like Iits, Iims And Aiims – A Study Of The Role Of Media Using Fuzzy Super Frm Models, Florentin Smarandache, W.B. Vasantha Kandasamy, K. Kandasamy

Branch Mathematics and Statistics Faculty and Staff Publications

The new notions of super column FRM model, super row FRM model and mixed super FRM model are introduced in this book. These three models are introduced specially to analyze the biased role of the print media on 27 percent reservation for the Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in educational institutions run by the Indian Central Government. This book has four chapters. In chapter one the authors introduce the three types of super FRM models. Chapter two uses these three new super fuzzy models to study the role of media which feverishly argued against 27 percent reservation for OBCs in Central …

Cooperative Federal Structure: A Workable Political-Economy Approach For A New Nepal, Alok Bohara Jul 2008

Cooperative Federal Structure: A Workable Political-Economy Approach For A New Nepal, Alok Bohara

Himalayan Research Papers Archive

The two main ethnocentric proposals for a federal structure –9 ethnic enclaves [CPN (M)] and the 1000 KM long east-west narrow corridor(s) [e.g., Madhesi parties’ demand for a single Terai state] as state(s)— are the two formal proposals that have drawn much attention of the lawmakers. Many, including this author, are of the view that the restructuring of the state needs to go beyond the cultural sentiment to incorporate many other issues such as: ecological interdependence, economy of scale, ethnic harmony, and comparative resource endowments. To that end, a cooperative federal structure proposed here takes the twelve ethnic regional enclaves …

Super Fuzzy Matrices And Super Fuzzy Models For Social Scientists, Florentin Smarandache, W.B. Vasantha Kandasamy, K. Amal

Branch Mathematics and Statistics Faculty and Staff Publications

The concept of supermatrix for social scientists was first introduced by Paul Horst. The main purpose of his book was to introduce this concept to social scientists, students, teachers and research workers who lacked mathematical training. He wanted them to be equipped in a branch of mathematics that was increasingly valuable for the analysis of scientific data. This book introduces the concept of fuzzy super matrices and operations on them. The author has provided only those operations on fuzzy supermatrices that are essential for developing super fuzzy multi expert models. We do not indulge in labourious use of suffixes or …

Cultural Advantages In China: Tale Of Six Cities, Florentin Smarandache, Fu Yuhua, Victor Christianto

Branch Mathematics and Statistics Faculty and Staff Publications

Nowadays, plenty of factories from Europe and other developed countries have been relocated to this country, considering its tremendous economic scale and rapid growth rate during the past three decades. But most of what happens inside the China nowadays is deeply hidden from the outside world (“the foreigners” as China people would call). This fact is partly because most reports on China were written by the so‐called fly‐high experts who are busy completing their reports despite a busy schedule. Very few books or reports were written by people inside, or at least “foreigners” who spent a few years in China. …

Rising To The Challenge: Integrating Social Science Into Nsf Environmental Observatories, Shalini Vajjhala, Alan Krupnick, Eleanor Mccormick, Morgan Grove, Patricia Mcdowell, Charles Redman, Leonard Shabman, Mitchell Small

Long Term Ecological Research Network

In early 2006, following meetings of the CLEANER (Collaborative Large-Scale Engineering Analysis Network for Environmental Research) Social Science Committee and Executive Committee, plans were developed for a workshop on improving social science integration into CLEANER and other NSF Environmental Observatories (EOs). This effort was motivated by the realization that first, social, behavioral, and economic science theory and research were centrally important to resolving the major "grand challenge" questions being addressed by the observatories, and second, more coordinated research efforts across social science, natural science, and engineering disciplines were necessary to "rise to these challenges."

This report is the product of …
