Searching For Leptoquarks At Gamma-P Colliders, S. Atağ

Turkish Journal of Physics

A study for single and pair production of scalar and vector leptoquarks in the collision of high energy $\gamma $ and proton beams is presented. It is shown that future $\gamma p$ colliders may play a complementary role to investigate unknown leptoquark properties.

Search For Supersymmetry At \Gammap - Colliders, A. U. Yilmazer Jan 1998

Search For Supersymmetry At \Gammap - Colliders, A. U. Yilmazer

Turkish Journal of Physics

We discuss the possibility of searching supersymmetry at TeV scale $\gamma p$ colliders proposed recently. Theoretical predictions are derived within the framework of minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) with R-parity conservation. Productions of squarks, gluinos, charginos and neutralinos through the processes $\gamma p\rightarrow\tilde{q}\tilde{w}X$, $\gamma p\rightarrow\tilde{q}\tilde{g}X$, $\gamma p\rightarrow\tilde{q}\tilde{\gamma}X$ (or $\tilde{q}\tilde{z}$) and $\gamma p\rightarrow\tilde{q}\tilde{q}^*X$ are considered. Cross sections for different initial beam polarizations are calculated and it is shown that polarization asymmetries are sensitive to the particle masses. Discovery mass limits of the superpartners are tabulated for various $\gamma p$ colliders at different center of mass energies. The results are compared with …

Testing Deca-Tev Unified Compositeness At The 4 Tev \Mu_+\Mu_-Colliders, Vasily V. Kabachenko, Yury F. Pirogov Jan 1998

Testing Deca-Tev Unified Compositeness At The 4 Tev \Mu_+\Mu_-Colliders, Vasily V. Kabachenko, Yury F. Pirogov

Turkish Journal of Physics

In the framework of the unified compositeness of leptons, quarks and Higgs bosons, the hidden local symmetry $\hat H_{loc}=SU(2)_L\times U(1)_Y$ with the heavy composite vector bosons, in addition to the SM gauge bosons, is briefly described. Supplementary hypothesis of the vector boson dominance (VBD) of the SM gauge interactions is considered. It is argued that this should produce the universal dominant residual interactions of the SM composite particles, i.e., all of the fermions and Higgs bosons. Restrictions on the universal residual fermion-fermion, fermion-boson and boson-boson interactions due to the VBD are investigated. Manifestations of the residual interactions at the 4~TeV …

A Proposal For A Measurement Of The Nucleon Form Factors At An Asymmetric E^+E^- Linac-Ring Collider, R. Baldini, C. Bini, P. Patteri

Turkish Journal of Physics

The neutron electromagnetic form factors have been measured for the first time in the time-like region in the $Q^2$ range between 3.6 and 6 $GeV^2$ by the FENICE experiment. The results show some unexpected features. First the neutron magnetic form factor turns out to be larger than the proton one, the neutron electric form factor being negligible. Then there are indications of a narrow structure very near the $N\overline{N}$ threshold, in the e^+e^- multihadronic annihilation. A new, high statistics experiment is needed to clarify the indications. An asymmetric, unconventional, linac-storage ring collider is proposed, using one of the existing high …

Tune Shift Limitations For Linac-Ring Type Colliders, Ö. Yavaş Jan 1998

Tune Shift Limitations For Linac-Ring Type Colliders, Ö. Yavaş

Turkish Journal of Physics

Limitations on incoherent and beam-beam tune shift values are calculated by using gaussian beam distribution for linac-ring type $ep$ colliders. The advantage of this machine is achievement of multi TeV center of mass energies in lepton-hadron interactions at sufficiently high luminosities. Tune shift puts a limit on the number of electrons per effective area for the stability of proton beam and, therefore, gives an upper bound for the luminosity.

A Possibility To Control The Polarization Of High-Energy Photons By Means Of A Laser Beam, G.L. Kotkin, V.G. Serbo Jan 1998

A Possibility To Control The Polarization Of High-Energy Photons By Means Of A Laser Beam, G.L. Kotkin, V.G. Serbo

Turkish Journal of Physics

The elastic light-light scattering below the threshold of the $e^+e^-$ pair production leads to a variation in polarization of hard $\gamma$-quanta traversing without loss a region where the laser light is focused. This effect can be used to control the $\gamma$-quantum polarization. Equations are obtained which determine the variation of Stokes parameters of $\gamma$-quanta in this case, and their solutions are given. It is pointed out that this effect can be observed in the experiment E-144 at SLAC. It should be taken into account and, perhaps, it can be used in experiments at future $\gamma \gamma$ colliders.

Ordinary And Coherent Bremsstrahlung At Linac-Ring Ep Colliders, V.G. Serbo, D.V. Serebryakova

Turkish Journal of Physics

The ordinary bremsstrahlung $ep \rightarrow ep\gamma$ can be used at the linac-ring $ep$ colliders for luminosity measurement. It is known that at high energies this process has a large correction due to beam-size effect. We have calculated this effect for $ep$ colliders of the linac-ring type. For the LHC+CLIC collider the correction exceeds 10\% for $E_{\gamma} < 0.95\;E_e$. As a rule, the bremsstrahlung of protons in the $ep$ scattering is not considered due to its small cross section. However, if the photon energy $E_{\gamma}$ becomes small enough, the number of produced photons become large because in this case the radiation is determined by the interaction of a proton with the collective electromagnetic field of the electron bunch. It is coherent bremsstrahlung (CBS). We present the main characteristics of CBS calculated for linac-ring $ep$ colliders. At the LHC+CLIC collider it should be about $1700 \; dE_\gamma /E_\gamma$ photons for a single collision of bunches at $E_\gamma \stackrel{

Production Of Susy Particles In Polarized \Gammap Collisions, A. Kandemi̇r

Turkish Journal of Physics

We discuss the production of several SUSY particles in the high energy collisions of the real photons off the protons within the MSSM. The polarizations of the colliding beams are also considered. The discovery mass limits for the squark and gluinos are presented and we conclude that the capacity of the future TeV scale $\gamma p$ colliders is quite promising in the search for SUSY particles.

Resummation Of Ir Renormalons In A Single Meson Photoproduction, Shahin S. Agaev Jan 1998

Resummation Of Ir Renormalons In A Single Meson Photoproduction, Shahin S. Agaev

Turkish Journal of Physics

Single pseudoscalar and vector mesons hard semi-inclusive photoproduction $\gamma h\rightarrow MX $ via higher twist mechanism is calculated using the QCD running coupling constant method. It is proved that in the context of this method a higher twist contribution to the photoproduction cross section cannot be normalized in terms of the meson electromagnetic form factor. The structure of infrared renormalon singularities of the higher twist subprocess cross section and the resummed expression (the Borel sum) for it are found. Comparisons are made with earlier results, as well as with leading twist cross section. Phenomenological effects of studied contributions for $\pi, …

Studies Of Structure Of Ceramic Materials Containing Molibdenum Particles Within The Framework Of Theory Of Non-Homogeneous Systems, Sh. Kami̇lov, M. Karabaeva, U. Abdurahmanov

Turkish Journal of Physics

The structure of ceramic materials containing molibdenum powder is considered within the framework of leakage theory. Determined are the density of the endless cluster, volumetric parts of the skeleton and dead ends, as well as their dependence on the component concentration. Volumetric part of the skeleton near the threshold of leakage makes a negligible part of the full volume.

The Structure Of (001) Csl Twist Boundaries In Fcc Metals, A. Ghafoor, S.A. Ahmad, B.A.S. Faridi

Turkish Journal of Physics

Computer simulation techniques based on discrete lattice approach and empirical many-body potentials have been used to study the structure and energy of $\Sigma = 5$, and $\Sigma = 13$ coincident site lattice (001) twist boundaries in three fcc metals. Energy computed for $\Sigma = 5$ boundary in copper is 17.5 \% less than the earlier result obtained by using pair potential. However the present calculations of twist boundary energies are somewhat higher than the results obtained using embedded atom method.

A New Probe Head Design For The Weak Field Double Resonance Spectrometer, A. Oral Salman, M. Maral Sünnetçi̇oğlu, Rıza Sungur, Gökçe Bi̇ngöl

Turkish Journal of Physics

In order to observe low field $\sigma$ EPR spectra of free radicals a new probe head was designed to work at 1.53 mT. As a double resonance spectrometer, at 1.53 mT the probe head includes both NMR and EPR rf coils. To induce the $\sigma$ transitions EPR rf coil must produce an rf field parallel to the main static field. Various coil designs were examined for this aim and the best results was obtained with a solenoid NMR coil and saddle shaped single turn EPR coil design combination.

The technique has been successfully applied to the study of seasonal variations of radon and thoron in the atmosphere around Rajshahi, Banladesh, during the years 1989-1991. The maximum radon concentration in outdoor air was observed in the winter from December to January while the indoor radon concentration was found to be maximum during the monsoon months of July and August. The implication of the results is briefly discussed in the paper.

Isotope Effect And Phonon Softening In Superconducting Borocarbides And Boronitrides, Tuğrul Haki̇oğlu, Valery A. Ivanov Jan 1998

Isotope Effect And Phonon Softening In Superconducting Borocarbides And Boronitrides, Tuğrul Haki̇oğlu, Valery A. Ivanov

Turkish Journal of Physics

The isotope effect in the recently disvovered class o superconductors LuNi_2B_2C and La_3Ni_2B_2N_3 is investigated in the context of electron-squezed phonon interaction renormalizing the Ni-d electron-electron correlations. Squeezed phonon mode originates from the anharmonic character of the tetragonal Ni-B structure and is polarized in the vortical direction to the Ni layers. The isotope effect arises as a result of the zero point motion of the Ni-Ni d-electron hopping amplitude dominantly due to this vertical phonon mode. Within this model the isotope exponent is calculated to be \alpha_B \leq 0.20 as compared to the recently found experimental value \alpha_B^{exp} = 0.27 …

Photoconductivity Studies Of Crystalline Si:H P-I-N, Ruhi Kaplan, Bengü Kaplan Jan 1998

Photoconductivity Studies Of Crystalline Si:H P-I-N, Ruhi Kaplan, Bengü Kaplan

Turkish Journal of Physics

Optically modulated photoconductivity (PC) properties of hydrogenated crystalline silicon (c-Si:H) with p-i-n junctions were investigated by frequency-resolved spectroscopy in the temperature range 20-290 K. The PC lifetime measurements of c-Si:H p-i-n show a second lifetime distribution which only dominates at low temperature under low illumination levels of excitation. Unlike the room temperature single lifetime distribution seen in c-Si:H p-i-n, the maximum of this second lifetime distribution shifts to longer times when the excitation intensity decreases, which reconciles with non-geminate pair recombination and thus the distant-pair model. In addition to lifetime measurements, the direct current-voltage (I-V) characteristics, the excitation light intensity- …
