B-Meson Light-Cone Distribution Amplitude From Euclidean Quantities, Wei Wang, Yu-Ming Wang, Ji Xu, Shuai Zhao

Physics Faculty Publications

A new method for the model-independent determination of the light-cone distribution amplitude of the B-meson in heavy quark effective theory (HQET) is proposed by combining the large momentum effective theory and the numerical simulation technique on the Euclidean lattice. We demonstrate the autonomous scale dependence of the nonlocal quasi-HQET operator with the aid of the auxiliary field approach, and further determine the perturbative matching coefficient entering the hard-collinear factorization formula for the B-meson quasidistribution amplitude at the one-loop accuracy. These results will be crucial to explore the partonic structure of heavy-quark hadrons in the static limit and to …

The coupled pseudostate approximation (McGovern et al 2009 Phys. Rev. A 79 042707) has been applied to Li2+ + Li(2s, 2p0,±1) collisions at 16 MeV with emphasis on studying the fully differential ionization measurements of Ghanbari-Adivi et al in the azimuthal plane (2017 J. Phys. B: At. Mol. Opt. Phys. 50 215202). The states of the valence electron in the Li target are calculated using the model potential of Stein (1993 J. Phys. B: At. Mol. Opt. Phys. 26 2087). Altogether 164 states with angular momenta l = 0 to 9 are employed in …

Measurements of short-range correlations in exclusive 4He (e , e ′ p N) reactions are analyzed using the Generalized Contact Formalism (GCF). We consider both instant-form and light-cone formulations with both the AV18 and local N2LO(1.0) nucleon-nucleon (NN) potentials. We find that kinematic distributions, such as the reconstructed pair opening angle, recoil neutron momentum distribution, and pair center of mass motion, as well as the measured missing energy, missing mass distributions, are all well reproduced by GCF calculations. The missing momentum dependence of the measured 4He (e , e ′ p N) /4He (e , e …

Gluon Pseudo-Distributions At Short Distances: Forward Case, Ian Balitsky, Wayne Morris, Anatoly Radyushkin Jan 2020

Gluon Pseudo-Distributions At Short Distances: Forward Case, Ian Balitsky, Wayne Morris, Anatoly Radyushkin

Physics Faculty Publications

We present the results that are necessary in the ongoing lattice calculations of the gluon parton distribution functions (PDFs) within the pseudo-PDF approach. We give a classification of possible two-gluon correlator functions and identify those that contain the invariant amplitude determining the gluon PDF in the light-cone z2 → 0 limit. One-loop calculations have been performed in the coordinate representation and in an explicitly gauge-invariant form. We made an effort to separate ultraviolet (UV) and infrared (IR) sources of the ln⁡(−z2)-dependence at short distances z2. The UV terms cancel in the reduced Ioffe-time distribution (ITD), …

The Electron Ion Collider offers the opportunity to make un-paralleled multidimen- sional measurements of the spin structure of the proton and nuclei, as well as a study of the onset of partonic saturation at small Bjorken-x [1]. An important requirement of the physics program is the tagging of spectator neutrons and the identification of forward photons. We propose to design and build a Zero Degree Calorimeter, or ZDC, to measure photons and neutrons with excellent energy & position resolution.

We report results on the total and elastic cross sections in proton-proton collisions at √s = 200 GeV obtained with the Roman Pot setup of the STAR experiment at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). The elastic differential cross section was measured in the squared four-momentum transfer range 0.045 ≤ −t ≤ 0.135 GeV². The value of the exponential slope parameter B of the elastic differential cross section dσ/dt ∼ e−Bt in the measured −t range was found to be B = 14.32 ± 0.09 (stat.)+0.13−0.28(syst.) GeV⁻². The total cross section σtot, obtained from …

CsxKySb photocathodes grown on GaAs and molybdenum substrates were evaluated using a –300 kV dc high voltage photogun and diagnostic beam line. Photocathodes grown on GaAs substrates, with varying antimony layer thickness (estimated range from < 20 nm to > 1 um), yielded similar thermal emittance per rms laser spot size values (~0.4 mm mrad / mm) but very different operating lifetime. Similar thermal emittance was obtained for a photocathode grown on a molybdenum substrate but with markedly improved lifetime. For this photocathode, no decay in quantum efficiency was measured at 4.5 mA average current and with peak current 0.55 A …

Superconductivity In La₂Ni₂In, Jannis Maiwald, Igor I. Mazin, Alex Gurevich, Meigan Aronson Jan 2020

Superconductivity In La₂Ni₂In, Jannis Maiwald, Igor I. Mazin, Alex Gurevich, Meigan Aronson

Physics Faculty Publications

We report here the properties of single crystals of La2Ni2In. Electrical resistivity and specific heat measurements concur with the results of density functional theory calculations, finding that La2Ni2In is a weakly correlated metal, where the Ni magnetism is almost completely quenched, leaving only a weak Stoner enhancement of the density of states. Superconductivity is observed at temperatures below 0.9 K. A detailed analysis of the field and temperature dependencies of the resistivity, magnetic susceptibility, and specific heat at the lowest temperatures reveals that La2Ni2In is a dirty type-II …

Novel Observation Of Isospin Structure Of Short-Range Correlations In Calcium Isotopes, D. Nguyen, Z. Ye, Lawrence Weinstein, X. Zheng, P. Zhu, R. Zielinski, Et Al., Jefferson Lab Hall A Collaboration Jan 2020

Novel Observation Of Isospin Structure Of Short-Range Correlations In Calcium Isotopes, D. Nguyen, Z. Ye, Lawrence Weinstein, X. Zheng, P. Zhu, R. Zielinski, Et Al., Jefferson Lab Hall A Collaboration

Physics Faculty Publications

Short-range correlations (SRCs) have been identified as being responsible for the high-momentum tail of the nucleon momentum distribution, n(k). Hard, short-range interactions of nucleon pairs generate the high-momentum tail and imprint a universal character on n(k) for all nuclei at large momentum. Triple coincidence experiments have shown a strong dominance of np pairs, but these measurements involve large final-state interactions. This paper presents the results from Jefferson Lab experiment E08014 which measured inclusive electron scattering cross section from Ca isotopes. By comparing the inclusive cross section from 48Ca to 40Ca in a kinematic region dominated by SRCs …

Photoproduction cross sections are reported for the reaction γp→pη using energy-tagged photons and the CLAS spectrometer at Jefferson Laboratory. The η mesons are detected in their dominant charged decay mode, η→π+π−π0, and results on differential cross sections are presented for incident photon energies between 1.2 and 4.7 GeV. These new η photoproduction data are consistent with earlier CLAS results but extend the energy range beyond the nucleon resonance region into the Regge regime. The normalized angular distributions are also compared with the experimental results from several other experiments, and with predictions of η-MAID 2018 and the latest solution of the …

Physics Faculty Publications

We present the first measurement of the reaction 𝛾p -> a₂(1320)⁰ p in the photon energy range 3.5-5.5 GeV and four-momentum transfer squared 0.2 < -t < 2.0 GeV2. Data were collected with the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer detector at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility. The a2resonance was detected by measuring the reaction 𝛾p → π0ηp and reconstructing the π0η invariant mass. The most prominent feature of the differential cross section is a dip at -t ≈ 0.55 GeV2. This can be described in the framework of Regge phenomenology, where the exchange degeneracy hypothesis …

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is one of the largest scientific instruments ever built. Since opening up a new energy frontier for exploration in 2010, it has gathered a global user community of about 9000 scientists working in fundamental particle physics and the physics of hadronic matter at extreme temperature and density. To sustain and extend its discovery potential, the LHC will need a major upgrade in the 2020s. This will increase its instantaneous luminosity (rate of collisions) by a factor of five beyond the original design value and the integrated luminosity (total number of collisions) by a factor ten. …

Intrinsic Transverse Momentum And Evolution In Weighted Spin Asymmetries, Jian-Wei Qiu, Ted C. Rogers, Bowen Wang Jan 2020

Intrinsic Transverse Momentum And Evolution In Weighted Spin Asymmetries, Jian-Wei Qiu, Ted C. Rogers, Bowen Wang

Physics Faculty Publications

The transverse momentum-dependent (TMD) and collinear higher twist theoretical factorization frameworks are the most frequently used approaches to describe spin-dependent hard cross sections weighted by and integrated over transverse momentum. Of particular interest is the contribution from small transverse momentum associated with the target bound state. In phenomenological applications, this contribution is often investigated using transverse momentum weighted integrals that sharply regulate the large transverse momentum contribution, for example, with Gaussian parametrizations. Since the result is a kind of hybrid of TMD and collinear (inclusive) treatments, it is important to establish if and how the formalisms are related in applications …

Beam-Target Helicity Asymmetry E In K⁺Σ⁻ Photoproduction On The Neutron, N. Zachariou, K. P. Adhikari, M. Khachatryan, M. Mayer, Y. Prok, Et Al., Clas Collaboration

Physics Faculty Publications

We report a measurement of a beam-target double-polarisation observable (E) for the 𝛾n(p) → K+Σ-(p) reaction. The data were obtained impinging the circularly-polarised energy-tagged photon beam of Hall B at Jefferson Lab on a longitudinally-polarised frozen-spin hydrogen deuteride (HD) nuclear target. The E observable for an effective neutron target was determined for centre-of-mass energies 1.70 ≤ W ≤ 2.30 GeV, with reaction products detected over a wide angular acceptance by the CLAS spectrometer. These new double-polarisation data give unique constraints on the strange decays of excited neutron states. Inclusion of the new …

Long-Range Electroweak Amplitudes Of Single Hadrons From Euclidean Finite-Volume Correlation Functions, Raúl A. Briceño, Zohreh Davoudi, Maxwell T. Hansen, Matthias R. Schindler, Alessandro Baroni

Physics Faculty Publications

A relation is presented between single-hadron long-range matrix elements defined in a finite Euclidean spacetime and the corresponding infinite-volume Minkowski amplitudes. This relation is valid in the kinematic region where any number of two-hadron states can simultaneously go on shell, so that the effects of strongly coupled intermediate channels are included. These channels can consist of nonidentical particles with arbitrary intrinsic spins. The result accommodates general Lorentz structures as well as nonzero momentum transfer for the two external currents inserted between the single-hadron states. The formalism, therefore, generalizes the work by Christ et al. [Phys. Rev. D 91, 114510 …

Physics Faculty Publications

Due to the lack of free neutron targets, studies of the structure of the neutron are typically made by scattering electrons from either ²H or ³He targets. In order to extract useful neutron information from a ³He target, one must understand how the neutron in a ³He system differs from a free neutron by taking into account nuclear effects such as final state interactions and meson exchange currents. The target single spin asymmetry A⁰ʸ is an ideal probe of such effects, as any deviation from zero indicates effects beyond plane wave impulse approximation. New measurements of the target single spin …

We investigate thermodynamic properties of FeSe under in-plane magnetic fields using torque magnetometry, specific heat, and magnetocaloric measurements. Below the upper critical field Hc2, we observed the field induced anomalies at H1 ∼ 15 T and H2 ∼ 22 T near H ∥ ab and below a characteristic temperature T* ∼ 2 K. The transition magnetic fields H1 and H2 exhibit negligible dependence on both temperature and field orientation. This contrasts to the strong temperature and angle dependence of Hc2, suggesting that these anomalies are attributed to the field induced phase transitions, …

Chiral Effective Field Theory Calculations Of Weak Transitions In Light Nuclei, G.B. King, L. Andreoli, S. Pastore, M. Piarulli, R. Schiavilla, R.B. Wiringa, J. Carlson, S. Gandolfi Jan 2020

Chiral Effective Field Theory Calculations Of Weak Transitions In Light Nuclei, G.B. King, L. Andreoli, S. Pastore, M. Piarulli, R. Schiavilla, R.B. Wiringa, J. Carlson, S. Gandolfi

Physics Faculty Publications

We report quantum Monte Carlo calculations of weak transitions in A 10 nuclei, based on the Norfolk two-and three-nucleon chiral interactions, and associated one-and two-body axial currents. We find that the contribution from two-body currents is at the 2-3% level, with the exception of matrix elements entering the rates of Li-8, B-8, and He-8 beta decay. These matrix elements are suppressed in impulse approximation based on the (leading order) Gamow Teller transition operator alone; two-body currents provide a 20-30% correction, which is, however, insufficient to bring theory in agreement with experimental data. For the other transitions, the agreement with the …
