The closure of Tethys Ocean has led to shaping the Central Pontides together with different types of rocks. In the east of Kargı (Gökçedoğan), which is located in the Central Pontides, allochthonous rocks of Late Palaeozoic-Early Cenozoic age and autochthonous units exist together, and allochthonous rocks present various tectono-stratigraphical sequences. Distinctive tectonic slices developed in the area as a consequence of the thrusting of the Permian carbonates from the north towards the south over the Middle Jurassic accretionary Complex (Kunduz Metamorphites) that form the basement of the area, and also because of the thrusting of the units of the Kirazbaşı …

A Graph Method For Interpretation Of Magnetic Anomalies Over 2d Dikes And Vertical Faults, İbrahim Kara, Oya Tarhan Bal, Anisya B.Tekkeli̇ Aug 2022

A Graph Method For Interpretation Of Magnetic Anomalies Over 2d Dikes And Vertical Faults, İbrahim Kara, Oya Tarhan Bal, Anisya B.Tekkeli̇

Bulletin of the Mineral Research and Exploration

Simple geometric assumptions for dikes and faults are often used for interpreting the parameters of these structures from magnetic anomalies. The magnetic anomaly of a 2D dike or a vertical fault consists of two components; one with even and the other with odd symmetries. The function resulting from the ratio of the even and odd components is independent from the amplitude coefficient. The abscissa of the half-maximum of the even component and the maximum of the odd component of a dike or a vertical fault is related to its depth and its half-width. Incorporating this relation into the corresponding equations …

The Relationship Between Seismic Quality Factor And Peak Ground Acceleration, A Case Study: M=4.3, 17.01.2015 Eskişehir Earthquake, Muammer Tün

Bulletin of the Mineral Research and Exploration

Seismic wave propagation in subsurface media endures from absorption, which can be evaluated by the seismic quality factor Q (Q-factor). Absorption is frequency-dependent. Lower frequencies are absorbed less, while higher frequencies are absorbed more. Therefore, the Q Factor should be determined in the frequency domain. Q-factor is determined by the slope of the natural logarithm of the output-input signals ratio. Surface waves (Rayleigh and Love waves) are particularly important, as they are the more destructive phases of an earthquake. This study was, focused on the Q-factor computation of the surface waves and demonstrated that the determination of the Q-factor is …

Bulletin of the Mineral Research and Exploration

The character of the boundary between the tectonic units in the Central Taurides and the Ulukışla Basin is controversial. The contact has been accepted as discordant or tectonic contact by different researchers. The deformation data of the units in the study area provide important information about the Mesozoic - Cenozoic period geological developments of the region. Regional compression in NW - SE direction has caused the development of fold, foliation and reverse fault type structures in the units in the study area. Similar structural deformations are observed in the rock units defined in the Ulukışla Basin as well. In this …

An Overview Of The Current Seismicity Of The Sultandağı Fault Zone (Afyonkarahisar-Konya, Western Anatolia), Doğan Kalafat, Yavuz Güneş, Mehmet Kara, Kıvanç Kekovali

Bulletin of the Mineral Research and Exploration

Western Anatolia is one of the most seismically active regions in Turkey. The high seismic activity is a result of a complex tectonic deformation dominated by the N-S extensional tectonic regime in Western Anatolia. This tectonic deformation is also a result of the relative movement of the African- Arabian plates towards the north, which causes the Anatolian plate to shift 2.5 cm per year towards W-SW. One of the largest fault zones in the Western Anatolia, Sultandağı Fault Zone (SFZ) has a northwest-southeast trend. SFZ, approximately 120 km long, is an important tectonic structure, which produced three major earthquakes (Mw …
