Predicting Housing Prices Using Ai, Eric Sconyers Jan 2023

Predicting Housing Prices Using Ai, Eric Sconyers

Williams Honors College, Honors Research Projects

I have created an AI model that can predict housing prices with 70 percent accuracy in Ames Iowa. I was able to use data from a website called Kaggle.com which is a website that provides datasets to the public so they can create AI models with the data. I found the dataset pertaining to housing prices in Ames Iowa. With this data, I was able to create an AI model that can predict the housing price of these homes. The technology I used in this project was Python as the programming language, and I used the scikit-learn library which has …

Multi-Modal Data Fusion, Image Segmentation, And Object Identification Using Unsupervised Machine Learning: Conception, Validation, Applications, And A Basis For Multi-Modal Object Detection And Tracking, Nicholas Lahaye

Computational and Data Sciences (PhD) Dissertations

Remote sensing and instrumentation is constantly improving and increasing in capability. Included within this, is the increase in amount of different instrument types, with various combinations of spatial and spectral resolutions, pointing angles, and various other instrument-specific qualities. While the increase in instruments, and therefore datasets, is a boon for those aiming to study the complexities of the various Earth systems, it can also present a large number of new challenges. With this information in mind, our group has set our aims on combining datasets with different spatial and spectral resolutions in an effective and as-general-as-possible way, with as little …

A New Feature Selection Method Based On Class Association Rule, Sami A. Al-Dhaheri Feb 2021

A New Feature Selection Method Based On Class Association Rule, Sami A. Al-Dhaheri

Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects

Feature selection is a key process for supervised learning algorithms. It involves discarding irrelevant attributes from the training dataset from which the models are derived. One of the vital feature selection approaches is Filtering, which often uses mathematical models to compute the relevance for each feature in the training dataset and then sorts the features into descending order based on their computed scores. However, most Filtering methods face several challenges including, but not limited to, merely considering feature-class correlation when defining a feature’s relevance; additionally, not recommending which subset of features to retain. Leaving this decision to the end-user may …

Reputation-Aware Trajectory-Based Data Mining In The Internet Of Things (Iot), Samia Tasnim Nov 2019

Reputation-Aware Trajectory-Based Data Mining In The Internet Of Things (Iot), Samia Tasnim

FIU Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Internet of Things (IoT) is a critically important technology for the acquisition of spatiotemporally dense data in diverse applications, ranging from environmental monitoring to surveillance systems. Such data helps us improve our transportation systems, monitor our air quality and the spread of diseases, respond to natural disasters, and a bevy of other applications. However, IoT sensor data is error-prone due to a number of reasons: sensors may be deployed in hazardous environments, may deplete their energy resources, have mechanical faults, or maybe become the targets of malicious attacks by adversaries. While previous research has attempted to improve the quality of …

Mining Temporal Activity Patterns On Social Media, Nikan Chavoshi Jul 2018

Mining Temporal Activity Patterns On Social Media, Nikan Chavoshi

Computer Science ETDs

Social media provide communication networks for their users to easily create and share content. Automated accounts, called bots, abuse these platforms by engaging in suspicious and/or illegal activities. Bots push spam content and participate in sponsored activities to expand their audience. The prevalence of bot accounts in social media can harm the usability of these platforms, and decrease the level of trustworthiness in them. The main goal of this dissertation is to show that temporal analysis facilitates detecting bots in social media. I introduce new bot detection techniques which exploit temporal information. Since automated accounts are controlled by computer programs, …

Identification Of Informativeness In Text Using Natural Language Stylometry, Rushdi Shams Aug 2014

Identification Of Informativeness In Text Using Natural Language Stylometry, Rushdi Shams

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository

In this age of information overload, one experiences a rapidly growing over-abundance of written text. To assist with handling this bounty, this plethora of texts is now widely used to develop and optimize statistical natural language processing (NLP) systems. Surprisingly, the use of more fragments of text to train these statistical NLP systems may not necessarily lead to improved performance. We hypothesize that those fragments that help the most with training are those that contain the desired information. Therefore, determining informativeness in text has become a central issue in our view of NLP. Recent developments in this field have spawned …

Hybrid Methods For Feature Selection, Iunniang Cheng May 2013

Hybrid Methods For Feature Selection, Iunniang Cheng

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

Feature selection is one of the important data preprocessing steps in data mining. The feature selection problem involves finding a feature subset such that a classification model built only with this subset would have better predictive accuracy than model built with a complete set of features. In this study, we propose two hybrid methods for feature selection. The best features are selected through either the hybrid methods or existing feature selection methods. Next, the reduced dataset is used to build classification models using five classifiers. The classification accuracy was evaluated in terms of the area under the Receiver Operating Characteristic …

Bringing To Life An Ancient Urban Center At Monte Albán, Mexico: Exploiting The Synergy Between The Micro, Meso, And Macro Levels In A Complex System, Thaer W. Jayyousi Jan 2012

Bringing To Life An Ancient Urban Center At Monte Albán, Mexico: Exploiting The Synergy Between The Micro, Meso, And Macro Levels In A Complex System, Thaer W. Jayyousi

Wayne State University Dissertations

In this dissertation, agent-based models of emergent ancient urban centers were constructed through the use of techniques from computational intelligence, agent-based modeling, complex systems, and data-mining of existing archaeological data from the prehistoric urban center, Monte Albán. This real world application was selected because of its importance in understanding the emergence of modern economic and political systems. Specifically, Cultural Algorithms was used to evolve models of early Monte Alban, models that can then be compared with existing models of ancient and modern urban centers.

Features of a complex system were used to help interpret the archaeological data. The analysis went …

Enhancing Undergraduate Ai Courses Through Machine Learning Projects, Ingrid Russell, Zdravko Markov, Todd W. Neller, Susan Coleman Oct 2005

Enhancing Undergraduate Ai Courses Through Machine Learning Projects, Ingrid Russell, Zdravko Markov, Todd W. Neller, Susan Coleman

Computer Science Faculty Publications

It is generally recognized that an undergraduate introductory Artificial Intelligence course is challenging to teach. This is, in part, due to the diverse and seemingly disconnected core topics that are typically covered. The paper presents work funded by the National Science Foundation to address this problem and to enhance the student learning experience in the course. Our work involves the development of an adaptable framework for the presentation of core AI topics through a unifying theme of machine learning. A suite of hands-on semester-long projects are developed, each involving the design and implementation of a learning system that enhances a …
