On The Catalytic Activity Of Palladium Nanoparticles-Based Anodes Towards Formic Acid Electro-Oxidation: Effect Of Electrodeposition Potential, Islam M. Al-Akraa Dr., Ahmad M. Mohammad Prof, Mohamed S. El-Deab Prof, Bahgat E. El-Anadouli Prof

Chemical Engineering

In this investigation, the catalytic activity of palladium nanoparticles (PdNPs)-modified glassy carbon (GC) (simply noted as PdNPs/GC) electrodes towards the formic acid electro-oxidation (FAO) was investigated. The deposition of PdNPs on the GC substrate was carried out by a potentiostatic technique at different potentials and the corresponding influence on the particles size and crystal structure of PdNPs as well as the catalytic activity towards FAO was studied. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) demonstrated the deposition of PdNPs in spherical shapes and the average particle size of PdNPs deposited at a potential of 0 V vs. Ag/AgCl/KCl(sat.) was the smallest (ca. 8 …

Pulse Electrodeposition Of Pd-Ni Alloy Nanoparticles For Electrocatalytic Oxidation Of Formic Acid, Fang-Zu Yang, Jun-Pei Yue, Zhong-Qun Tian, Shao-Min Zhou

Journal of Electrochemistry

The Pd-Ni alloy nanoparticles with nickel atomic contents of 12.0%, 16.4% and 22.6% were successfully electrodeposited from a Pd-Ni alloy electrolyte by square wave pulse plating. The alloy nanoparticles were in the spherical shape with a diameter of 50 ~ 80 nm. As the growth potential of the alloy was negatively shifted, the nickel content of the alloy was increased, and the size of the nanoparticles was almost the same, whereas the number, the degree of crosslinking and the real active area of the nanoparticles were increased. As the nickel content of the alloy nanoparticles increased, the peak current for …

Electrocatalytic Oxidation Of Hcooh At Au_(Core)-Pd_(Shell)-Pt_(Cluster) Nanocubes, Qing-Ning Jiang, Huan Li, Ning Yang, Ping-Ping Fang, Feng-Ru Fan, Zhong-Qun Tian May 2010

Electrocatalytic Oxidation Of Hcooh At Au_(Core)-Pd_(Shell)-Pt_(Cluster) Nanocubes, Qing-Ning Jiang, Huan Li, Ning Yang, Ping-Ping Fang, Feng-Ru Fan, Zhong-Qun Tian

Journal of Electrochemistry

Gold nanocubes were synthesized by a two-step seed-mediated growth method. The Aucore-Pdshell and Aucore-Pdshell-Ptcluster nanocubes with controllable shell thickness of Pd and cluster coverage of Pt were synthesized by simply changing the amount ratio of H2PdCl4 or H2PtCl6. The samples were characterized by scanning electron microscope ( SEM) 、transmission electron microscopc ( TEM) and cyclic voltammetry ( CV) . CV was then used to make a systematic study on the dependence of the electrocatalytic properties on the shell thickness of Aucore-Pdshell and Pt coverage of Aucore-Pdshell-Ptcluster,respectively. The results indicated that the Au nanocube core coated by three atomic layers of …

Electrooxidation Of Formic Acid On Pd-Ni Alloy Film Electrode-The Effect Of Dealloying, Chao Wang, Fei-Fei Shi, Jin-Yi Wang, Han-Xuan Zhang, Wen-Bin Cai

Journal of Electrochemistry

A Pd-Ni alloy film was electrodeposited on Au disc electrode at a constant potential from a weakly basic bath containing PdCl2,NiSO4 and ethylenediamine. The as-deposited film was then subjected to potential cycling in a perchloric acid solution for surface dealloying treatment. The dealloyed Pd-Ni film electrode was examined for the electrocatalytic oxidation of formic acid, and compared with the as-deposited one as well as a Pd film electrode. The FE-SEM and electrochemical measurements on the Pd-Ni films revealed that the dealloying treatment caused a surface roughening and an increase in specific surface reaction area. The ICP-AES and XPS analyses demonstrated that the preferential dissolution of …

Effect Of Au At Different States On Electrocatalytic Performance Of Pd Catalyst For Oxidation Of Formic Acid, Xin Wang, Ya-Wen Tang, Tian-Hong Lu

Journal of Electrochemistry

Using liquid-reduction or complex-redution method, four catalysts,i.e,the Au/C,Pd/C,Pd-Au/C-T and Pd-Au/C-H were preparated and which electroanalytic activities and stabilities for the oxidation of formic acid were compares. It was found that the Au/C catalyst has no electrocatalytic activity, and the Pd/C catalyst possesses the good electrocatalytic performance for the oxidation of formic acid. The addition of Au into the Pd/C catalyst can increase the electrocatalytic activity and stability.Especially, the electrocatalytic activity and stability of the Pd-Au/C-T catalyst with the alloy of Pd and Au are better than that of the of the Pd-Au/C-H catalyst,in which,Pd and Au do not form the alloy. The investigation of its reason …

Preparation, Characterization And Photoelectrochemical Activities Of Cu-Tio_2/Ito Films, Dong Shu

Journal of Electrochemistry

Cu-TiO_(2)/ITO films were prepared by direct photo-reduction deposition of Cu~(2+) on TiO_(2)/ITO films. The nanocomposite films were characterized by UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectra (DRS), XRD spectra, Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) technology, and photovoltage measurement. The feasibility of improving the photocatalytic activity of TiO_(2) film by combining the modification of Cu nanoparticles with the application of anodic bias was investigated. The experimental results showed that the deposited Cu has an apparent enhancement effect with respect to suppressing the recombination between the photogenerated charge carriers and enhancing the photocatalytic oxidation of formic acid. The combination could promote the photocatalytic oxidation of formic …

The Electro-Catalytic Oxidation Of Hcooh On Electrodeposited Pd Electrode, Quan Zhou, Cunzhong Zhang, Xiaolin Lu, Zhongda Wu

Journal of Electrochemistry

The coherent electroplates were prepared by electro depositing Pd on supporting materials glassy carbon. The surface morphology of the electrodes was examined by SEM. The electro oxidation of HCOOH in HClO 4 solution was investigated by using cyclic voltammetry. The results show that the deposited conditions in the preparation of electrodes by electro depositing Pd affect the electrodes electro catalytic activity to the oxidation of HCOOH. The platinized Pd electrode on GC substrates using large current density is of higher catalytic activity to the oxidation of HCOOH than Pd electrode. The electro catalytic activity of PdO formed on the Pd …
