Effect Of Alkyl Chain Length Of Symmetrical Quaternary Ammonium Hydroxide On Oxalic Acid Electroreduction Reaction, Bo Huang, Xin-Sheng Zhang, Dong-Fang Niu, Shuo-Zhen Hu

Journal of Electrochemistry

Glyoxylic acid with the dual characteristics of acid and aldehyde is an important chemical raw material and organic synthesis intermediate, which is extensively used in the perfumery, pharmaceutical and fine chemical industries. A family of symmetric quaternary ammonium hydroxides (QAHs) with different alkyl chain lengths was used as the additives in generating glyoxylic acid from oxalic acid electroreduction reaction (OAER). The effects of alkyl chain length on OAER and the corresponding side reaction, i.e., hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), were investigated. Linear sweep voltammetric (LSV) results showed that the adsorption of the additives suppressed more on the HER than that on …

Electrochemical Properties Of The Modified Carbon Nanotubes, Chun-An Ma

Journal of Electrochemistry

Powder micro-electrodes were prepared from raw carbon nanotubes and carbon nanotubes modified by carboxyl. The electro-reduction properties of both the raw and open-ended carbon nanotubes in p-Nitrophenol solution were investigated. The FTIR spectrum result indicated that the functional groups are successfully fixed on the surface of the carbon nanotubes after nitric acid treatment. The cyclic voltammetry results show that the electrochemical activity of carboxyl-modified carbon nanotubes was improved. The mechanism of electro-(reduction) for the carbon nanotubes after acid treatment was discussed.

Application Of Nickel Foam Electrode For Electroreduction Intermediate Of Purine, Hui-Wen Yang, Xi-En Hu, Xue-Jun Wang

Journal of Electrochemistry

Nickel foam with weight uniformity, good porosity ,pore size and low resistivity as a three-dimensional cathode was used in a filter-press electrochemical reactor. The H_(2)SO_(4) as supporting electrolyte, separator of cation ion exchange membrane, and the lead plate as an anode were used. The cyclic system consisted of electroreduction reactor, pump, store tank and ampere meter. NAU was electroreduced in the cathode chamber of the reactor. Purine intermediate was synthesized with DAU, and the results were compared with those of iron powder reduction process. A peak current in the electroreduction process was detected. The current density of nickel foam increased …

Electrohydrodimerization Of Fumarodinitrile On Liquid Gallium Electrode, He Wei, Huang Ying Feb 1999

Electrohydrodimerization Of Fumarodinitrile On Liquid Gallium Electrode, He Wei, Huang Ying

Journal of Electrochemistry

Electrohydrodimerization(EHD) of fumarodinitrile on liquid gallium electrode can take place not only in hydrotropic solution of tetraethylammonium p_toluenesulphonate(TEA_PTS), but also in aqueous solution containing low concentration of strong surfactants, such as TritonX_100. In solution without organic surfactant, FDN yields a single two_electron reduction wave corresponding to the formation of a saturated monomer called as butanedinitrile. If some TEA_PTS or TritonX_100 is added into the solution, the original two_electron wave is splitted into two continuous single_electron reduction wave and corresponding EHD of fumarodinitrile is obtained.

An Esr Study Of Free Radicals In Electroreduction Process Of Allyl Alcohol, Jindong Zhang, Yafei Kuang, Shukun Huang, Naixian Xie

Journal of Electrochemistry

Electrochemical-ESR technique with spin trap phenyl-t-butyl nitrone(PBN)was used to study the intermediates of electroreduction of allyl alcohol at platinized platinum electrode in acidic alcohol-aqua solution. Hydrogen and allyl group and(or)propyl group radicals were identified by a hyperfine spectrum of the radical adducts, and that provided a direct evidence for the presence of these radicals in the electroreduction of allyl alcohol.

The Reduction Of Oxygen To Hydrogen Peroxide In An Acidic Trickle Bed Cell Using Graphite Chip Cathode, Zhaoe Lu, Guanyong Zhang, Tiangeng Zhong, Guonu Fang

Journal of Electrochemistry

The authors investigated the electrochemical reduction of oxygen to hydrogen peroxide in 0.05 mol/L H 2SO 4 solution by the trickle bed electrode using graphite chip. The bed dimension was 14×5×0.6 cm. The current efficiency and the concentration of H 2O 2 in the catholyte were determined at various current strengths and various rates of adding the electrolyte. The proper current was 0.15 A. i.e. the current density was 2.1 mA/cm 2 vertical cross section area of the bed. The concentration of H 2O 2 reached 7×10 -3 mol/L with the current efficiency of 0.2. If the concentration of H …

Electroreduction Of The Nittobenzene On Titanium Electrode Implanted With Palladium, Zhongda Wu, Xianjun Zhu, Hongsen Wang

Journal of Electrochemistry

The titanium substrates were bombarded with 1×10 ̄(17)~5×10 ̄(17)ions·cm ̄(-2) ofpalladium at the room temperature. The surface composition of implanted electrede and concentration-depth profiles of various elements were measured by AES. The electrored uction processes ofnitrobenzene(NB)in 0.1 mol/L NaOH solution at Pd/Ti electrodes have been investigated by cyclicvoltaivimetry. The results show that the palladium implanted titanium electrodes exhibit a high catalyticactivity in the electroreduction of NB. The NB radical anion, which is the product of one-electronelectroreduction of NB,was detected by ESR in-situ in conjunction with electrochemical methods. Aniline was also detected as a product of electroreduction of NB by using UV-spectra in-situ. According to the …
