Proactive Management Of Acute Oedema Following Hand And Minor Burn Injury, Dale O. Edwick
Proactive Management Of Acute Oedema Following Hand And Minor Burn Injury, Dale O. Edwick
Theses
Burn injury is a unique trauma. The inflammatory process initiated with burn injury adversely influences all of the Starling equation variables, resulting in increased transvascular fluid filtration, so that oedema as a product of burn injury is more readily formed than in other forms of trauma. Localised wound oedema forms due to minor burn injury, with increasing systemic oedema associated with increased size of burn. It is now recognised that a marked inflammatory and immune response is created with non-severe burn injury, indicating a systemic component with all burns. The effect of oedema formation on the course of the burn …
The Influence Of Physical Health, Emotional Health, And Socioeconomic Factors On The Musculoskeletal Pain Experience In Patients Attending A Pro Bono Physical Therapy Clinic, Garrett Naze
Theses and Dissertations--Rehabilitation Sciences
Non-communicable, chronic diseases are highly prevalent in the United States, reducing the quality of life for those affected and contributing to the majority of the nation’s healthcare expenditure. These conditions include, among others, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and musculoskeletal disease. Musculoskeletal disease is particularly of interest for the field of physical therapy as the vast majority of patients seeking care in the outpatient setting present with musculoskeletal pain complaints, resulting in limitations in function, participation, and quality of life for the patient.
The factors influencing health outcomes are diverse and include a person’s physical environment, social and economic factors, access to …
Therapeutic Management Of A Patient With Necrotizing Fasciitis Resulting In Quadrilateral Amputation And Critical Illness Myopathy In The Intensive Care Setting: A Case Report., Mallory A. Kargela, Annette J. Siebens
Therapeutic Management Of A Patient With Necrotizing Fasciitis Resulting In Quadrilateral Amputation And Critical Illness Myopathy In The Intensive Care Setting: A Case Report., Mallory A. Kargela, Annette J. Siebens
Internet Journal of Allied Health Sciences and Practice
Purpose: The purpose of this case is to illustrate the best available evidence to provide early therapeutic intervention for a critically ill patient presenting with cardiovascular and pulmonary complications due to multi-system compromise. Case Description: A 19-year-old male was admitted to the hospital with the diagnosis of necrotizing fasciitis and necrotizing pneumonia. He experienced numerous additional medical complications ultimately leading to tracheostomy, delirium, critical illness myopathy, and quadrilateral amputation secondary to necrotizing fasciitis and critical limb ischemia following prolonged veno-venous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VV-ECMO). Outcomes: Patient was discharged to an outside rehabilitation hospital after 103 days in the acute setting …
Cost Outcomes Of Physical Therapist Providers Compared To Primary Care Providers In The Treatment Of Musculoskeletal Patients In A Military Treatment Facility: A Retrospective Chart Review”, Troy E. Mcgill, Debra F. Stern, Morey J. Kolber, John Mcgee
Cost Outcomes Of Physical Therapist Providers Compared To Primary Care Providers In The Treatment Of Musculoskeletal Patients In A Military Treatment Facility: A Retrospective Chart Review”, Troy E. Mcgill, Debra F. Stern, Morey J. Kolber, John Mcgee
Internet Journal of Allied Health Sciences and Practice
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the cost of physical therapist (PT) management of patients with musculoskeletal (MSK) disorders to management by traditional primary care managers (PCMs); medical doctors (MDs), doctors of osteopathic medicine (DOs), advanced registered nurse practitioners (ARNPs), and physician assistants (PAs). Methods: This is a retrospective study of electronic medical records using an exploratory, non-experimental, cross-sectional, and quantitative design method. The records of patients with MSK disorders were assessed at an Air Force military medical clinic for 18 months from January 2016 through June 2017. Results: PT management of MSK patients resulted in a …
The Effect Of Visual Feedback On Lumbar Spinal Mobility In Subjects With Low Back Pain, Alexandra Adams, Averi Donaldson, Katherine Hildebrandt, Philemon Miller
The Effect Of Visual Feedback On Lumbar Spinal Mobility In Subjects With Low Back Pain, Alexandra Adams, Averi Donaldson, Katherine Hildebrandt, Philemon Miller
Physical Therapy Capstone Projects
Purpose: This study was designed to determine if visual feedback via a laser pointer would enhance quality of lumbar mobility exercise in quadruped. A secondary aim of this study was to compare mobility assessed using the valid and reliable Modified-Modified Schober Test (MMST) to mobility measured indirectly using the laser pointer.
Subjects: 69
Methods: Adult participants with no low back pain (LBP) in the previous year or back surgery were randomly assigned to one of three groups for two sessions: Control (blindfolded during both), Intervention A (blindfolded then visual feedback), or Intervention B (visual feedback then blindfolded). Baseline standing lumbar …
