Does Aerobic Intensity Level In Standard Physical Therapy Relate To Change In Walking Endurance In Patients With Stroke?, Yunyi Yan
Undergraduate Student Research Internships Conference
Aerobic exercise is critical in improving muscle strength, balance, and gait in stroke rehabilitation; higher dosage of exercise, in the form of increased physiotherapy(PT) duration, step counts, is associated with greater motor recovery. We sought to explore whether aerobic intensity level in one PT session is associated with the change in walking endurance; we hypothesized that higher levels of aerobic intensity, younger age, and being male would relate to greater improvement in walking endurance for individuals with stroke.
In this study, sixty-four individuals with stroke, aiming at improving walking performance, were recruited. Walking endurance was assessed by the Six-Minute Walk …
Predictors Of Physical Therapy Non-Treatment Among Patients Scheduled For Treatment Two Times A Day In The Acute Hospital, Sara Bookout, Kyle Ozaki
Predictors Of Physical Therapy Non-Treatment Among Patients Scheduled For Treatment Two Times A Day In The Acute Hospital, Sara Bookout, Kyle Ozaki
UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones
Background and Purpose: Consistent participation in physical therapy treatment is the key to the success of any physical therapy treatment program. Scheduled therapy sessions that do not result in treatment (non-treatment) may cause longer hospital stays and/or poor outcomes. A better understanding of the factors affecting non-treatment could allow proper adjustments to prevent non-treatment by hospital administration, improve patient-therapist interaction, and may result in improved care, greater patient satisfaction, and lower healthcare costs. The purpose of this study was to investigate characteristics of patients that affect physical therapy non-treatment events for patients scheduled for therapy twice a day (BID) in …
Validation Of A 5k Age And Weight Run Handicap Model, Paul M. Vanderburgh, Lloyd L. Laubach
Validation Of A 5k Age And Weight Run Handicap Model, Paul M. Vanderburgh, Lloyd L. Laubach
Paul M. Vanderburgh
Though increasing age and body weight (BW) have been widely known to be associated with slower distance run times, the common convention in 5K road races is to categorize competitors by age and, sometimes, BW. This has the disadvantage of assigning only small numbers of competitors to age categories and giving advantage to runners close to the minimum age or BW values allowable. Using recent advances in the modeling of distance run performance by BW combined with empirical evidence quantifying the independent effect of age on cardiovascular endurance, we previously published the derivation of the 5K Handicap (5KH), an age …
