The traditional Chinese performing artist is a special group at the scope of athletic injury. Long term over-training may put excessive stress on the musculoskelelal system. The goal of this study was io evaluate the occurrence of ulnar nerve injuries in students of dramatic school.Total of 47 dramatic school students completed the questionaire, physical examination and electromyographic study.Of 94 hands in 47 students, abnormal EMG finding was noted in 29 subjects, and the incidence rate was 30.9%. This study followed up 59 spinal cord injure(SCI)patients , including 33 quadriplegic and 26 paraplegic.There're 50.8%(30/59) of SCI patients reported upper extremity (UE)pain , most common ar the shoulder . The prevalence of UE pain in male SCI is slightly higher than in famale SCI patients. Separately speaking , there're 72.7%(24/33) quadriplegic with UE pain and risk factors including(1) injure period<2 years(2)age>30 years old. There're 23.1% (6/26) paraplegic with UE pain and risk factors including(1)no pressure sore (2) injured period > 9 months (3)traumatic injured (4) fracture-dislocation injured (5) lower activity(6)male. ”The purpose of this study is to compare the different nerve conduction responses of median nerve (MN) and Ulanr nerve (UN) in patients with carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) after changing the temperature of hands.Thirty hands of CTS group were evaluated and compared to those of normal subjects by exposing the hands for 20 minutes to (1) room temperature (25℃). 926 cases of hand injuries attending the Reha-bilitation Department or Emergency Service of Provincial Taoyuan Hospital from the period between Jan 1990 to May 1992 were studied either through interview (37). telephone (153) or chart review (736). Their pattern and severity of injuries, contributing causes- the present status of recovery and efficacy of rehabilitation were assessed. 78.9% of these injuries were job-related. 63.1% were injured directly by machines. Index finger was the most frequently injured site: middle finger ranked second. for job-relaied injuries. 14.5% of them need hospitalization and they hospitalization for 20.3 (2-180) days on the average. Obesity is a major health problem. There is considerable information regarding the association between excessive body fatness and many health risks. The purpose of this study is to compare the cardiorespiratory responses of female obese subjects and normal-weight women during cycle ergometry. The obese group included 23 female subjects with mean age of 39.6±3.2 years (range: 19-57 yrs.). The mean body weight of obese subjects was 71.4±7.0 kg. and the body mass index (BMI) was 29.0±2.0 kg/㎡. The control group included 23 normal-weight women with matched age and body height. In a prospective study we applied electroacupuncture, according to the concepts of Traditional Chinese Medicine and previous studies of electrostimulation, to patients suffering from post-stroke paresthesia.Electroacupuncture over the head and limbs was applied to 20 patients with post-stroke paresthesia. All patients received brain CT scan examination of which most revealed subcortical lesions (19 subcorlicai lesions and 1middle cerebral arterial territory infarction). The duration of treatment was thirty minutes and each patient received electroacupuncture treatment once per week for 3 months. It is not rare for the individuals with bronchiectasis, defining pathologically as a permanently abnormal dilation of subsegmental airways, to develop respiratory insufficiency as respiratory tract infection occurs. This is a case of 69-year-old male patient who suffered from cerebral infarction with right-sided hemiplegia, transient motor aphasia, suspected thalamic syndrome, impaired activity of daily living and partial dependence. There were no past history of D.M. psychosis or other significant diseases except mild hypertension under thiazide control, also no family history of suicide or other hereditary diseases.Post-stroke depression had developed progressively since March 1993 including insomnia, fatigue indifference, anorexia, moodiness. Major depression was impressed based upon the diagnostic criteria of DSM-III. Other causes of depression including iatrogenesis and metabolic diseases had been ruled out. Motor evoked potential (MEP) study by transcranial electric or magnetic stimulation or the motor cortex has been practically used for clinical evaluation of electrophysiological function of the central motor pathway. By using a percutaneous magnetic stimulation over the motor cortex and F-wave measurement from the median nerve stimulation, central motor conduction time (CMCT) from motor cortex to C8 spinal cord was measured in 25 patients with cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM) and in 16 healthy subjects. Cervical myelopathy had been noted in patients with involuntary neck movement, especially in individuals with athetoid-dystonic cerebral palsy(CP). The excessive and repeated neck motions were considered to be responsible for the premature spondylosis, which might be the cause of myelopathy. The exact pathophysiology and managements were still controversial. Here we present a rare case who was a male patient with long-lasting dystonic neck movement developing cervical myelopathy due to protrusion of disc in his relatively young age. To monitor the improvement of muscle performance following Russian stimulation training by muscle strength test and compound muscle action potential (CMAP) recording. 2. To investigate the place of quantitative CMAP recording technique in evaluation of muscle power. the APB and ADQ muscles from 20 healthy volunteer were included. A literature review revealed that similar therapeutic current has been shown to suppress growth of common wound pathogens in vitro and in vivo. This study explored what internal beliefs a therapist holds about the nature of reality and how those beliefs influence how he/she delivers occupational therapy. A single-case study design was utilized. Data were collected from three in-depth interviews and observation of multiple treatment sessions.

The results suggest that this therapist's view of the world could be categorized into four areas: (1) What she believed about ultimate reality; (2) What she believed about life, death and eternity; (3) What she believed about human nature; and (4) What she believed about the nature of knowing. The purpose of this investigation was to compare cardiorespiratory fitness levels of acute spinal cord injury individuals (SCI), at the time of admission (ADM) to a rehabilitation hospital, prior to discharge (DC), and 8 weeks following discharge (8wk). Subjects were a 110 SCI with a mean age of 29, with injury levels C6 and below, who had completed a maximal exercise test on an arm ergometer. The purpose of this study was to examine the kinematics of the pelvis and the right hip and the electromyographic activity of the gluteus maximus and biceps femoris during backward walking in children with spastic diplegic cerebral palsy and children without known disabilities. Subjects included 6 children, three with a diagnosis of spastic diplegia and three without known disabilities.

Public Law 102-119 (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act of 1991), mandates that family members, if they wish, participate in developing a plan of treatment for their child. Traditionally, therapist have not relied on parental assessments based upon the assumption that parents overestimate their child's abilities. The present study compared parental perceptions about the developmental status of their child's fine motor abilities to the therapist's interpretation of a standardized assessment using the Peabody Developmental Motor Scale (Fine Motor). The purposes of this study were to determine whether post-CVA hemiplegic shoulder pain is related to hypertonicity, whether muscle tone of the shoulder differed between patients with pain and those without, and to determine whether a relationship exists between hypotonicity or hypertonicity and amount of range of motion (ROM), glenohumeral subluxation, or sensory disturbances, in those who experience pain. Data was analyzed for significance using the Wilcoxon Matched-Pairs Signed Ranks Test, Mann-Whitney U-Test, Chi-Square and Fisher's Exact Tests ({dollar}\alpha{dollar} = 05). The purpose of this study was to investigate the standards of performance on the Bruininks-Oseretsky Test of Motor Proficiency-Short Form (BOT-S) of healthy males from 25 to 30 years of age. Although the BOT-S was developed and standardized on children, this test is used by physical therapists to assess adult patients with traumatic brain injuries (TBIs). The BOT-S evaluates both gross and fine motor control. Reliability and validity of the BOT-S have been established on children 4.5 to 14.5 years of age. The San Francisco Spine Institute (SFSI) Dynamic Lumbar Muscular Stabilization (DLMS) Program is a comprehensive, non-operative treatment approach to lumbar spine dysfunction. This program is implemented in physical therapy clinics nationwide.; The purpose of this study was to compare DLMS treatment concepts and methods used by Michigan rehabilitation professionals with the SFSI protocol. Forty-nine clinicians were interviewed using a questionnaire developed by the investigators. The areas surveyed included: clinicians' rationale for use and implementation of DLMS training, and clinicians' assessment of patient functional outcomes.; The survey responses suggest that clinicians focus on orthopedic evaluation parameters and low back pain management …

This research study explores the possible differences in general job satisfaction between contracted physical therapists and directly employed physical therapists. The Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire was sent to contract and directly employed therapists who fulfilled the following criteria: working in an acute care setting, working at that particular job for at least six months but no more than two years, and working in the profession for at least six months. A total of 200 surveys were mailed to therapists in the state of Michigan with 17 surveys being returned by contracted therapists and 34 from directly employed therapists, for a 25.5% …
