ABSTRACT
This research explored 102 Illinois counties' COVID-19 data to determine whether demographic characteristics and social vulnerability are associated with increased vulnerability to COVID-19 infections and deaths. COVID-19 is disproportionately impacting vulnerable groups and has been deadlier for African American and Hispanic people. The findings of this research will contribute to the knowledge base regarding social vulnerability and assist public health officials in targeting resources and designing interventions. This study used a retrospective cross-sectional design to assess demographic characteristics of …

Association Of Health Departments’ Completion Of A Community Health Assessment, Community Health Improvement Plan, And Strategic Plan With Better Population Health Outcomes, Kelora T. Cofer
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Promoting health and well-being requires a strong public health infrastructure. This study examined the association of engagement of local health departments (LHDs) in accreditation and its pre-requisites with health outcomes in LHD jurisdictions such as the prevalence of premature death and tobacco use in the counties they serve. Two data sets, The 2016 National Profile of Local Health Departments and 2018 Community Health Rankings were linked using deterministic linkage approach, based on county FIPS codes as a unique identifier. Descriptive and multinomial logistic regression analyses were performed using SPSS Version 25. The results showed that having recently completed a community …

Background: This study seeks to quantify variation in healthcare utilization and per capita costs using system-defined geographic regions based on enrollee residence within the Military Health System (MHS).
Methods: Data for fiscal years 2007 – 2010 were obtained from the Military Health System under a data sharing agreement with the Defense Health Agency (DHA). DHA manages all aspects of the Department of Defense Military Health System, including TRICARE. Adjusted rates were calculated for per capita costs and for two procedures with high interest to the MHS- back surgery and Cesarean sections for TRICARE Prime and Plus enrollees. Coefficients of variation …
