Academic Medicine Responds To The Opioid Crisis, John Prescott
Academic Medicine Responds To The Opioid Crisis, John Prescott
Marshall Journal of Medicine
Opioid dependence has devastated communities across the nation particularly in rural states and academic medicine has responded in a variety of ways. Through its tripartite mission of education, research, and clinical care, creative solutions are being implanted. Medical schools and teaching hospitals are partnering with public health and law enforcement agencies, as well as local healthcare providers to address the clinical, social, and rehabilitative challenges. Academic medicine continues to adapt to the needs of the nation and teach, train, and prepare the next generation of physicians to be at their best when things are at their worst.
Attachment: The Antidote To Trauma, Joshua Straub
Attachment: The Antidote To Trauma, Joshua Straub
Faculty Publications and Presentations
Trauma and loss in life are inevitable. And all too often the traumatic experience itself can be enough to paralyze the mental, emotional, and spiritual state of any given person. Unable to interpret the traumatic experience, many instead are left defined by it. Helping clients discern the objective experience and their subjective reactions to it will help free them from the emotions and beliefs that subsequently control their lives. Based on the most relevant attachment theory research and clinical techniques, this workshop teaches the attentional strategies necessary to helping clients overcome trauma.

Mental Health Crises As A Regional Problem, Roger A. Lohmann
Faculty & Staff Scholarship
Mental health crises are often presented and thought about as individual problems, activities going on only within the minds of individuals. This presentation considers mental health crisis as a regional problem. It discusses the four county region of North Central West Virginia which is the catchment area for Valley Community Mental Health Center. It is based on a study conducted by the author of the need for a revised and integrated crisis management system for the region.
