One hundred and ninety-six patients at the Fowler Kennedy Sport Medicine Clinic (FKSMC) undergoing anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction (ACLR) were randomized as part of the multi-center STABILITY study to receive either an isolated ACLR or ACLR with a lateral extra-articular tenodesis (LET). The STABILITY study followed these patients up to two years postoperative, and a long-term follow-up protocol was initiated afterwards. Eighty-two patients from this center were seen at three, five and seven years postoperative as part of a long-term follow-up. Disparities in total joint arthroplasty are well-documented. However, much of the research regarding disparities in vulnerable populations receiving total hip arthroplasty (THA) have focused on short-term outcomes. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of race, gender, and socioeconomic status (SES) on patient-reported outcomes six months following THA.

Methods

Electronic health record data were retrospectively analyzed for 269 individuals who underwent THA at a large urban hospital from 2013-16. Femoroacetabular impingement syndrome (FAIS) is a common cause of non-arthritic hip pain and reduced physical activity in active young adults. It is defined as a motion-related disorder of the hip with a triad of symptoms, clinical signs, and imaging findings that represents symptomatic premature contact between the proximal femur and the acetabulum. There are two anatomical morphologies that can cause FAIS, cam, and pincer, and is a challenging clinical pathology. Background: This case presents a 16-year-old male junior high school soccer athlete. His injury occurred during a homecoming kickball game in which he hyperextended his elbow. The hyperextension resulted in an audible popping sound. Differential Diagnosis: There was an obvious deformity and swelling seen at the athlete’s olecranon process and cubital fossa. The athletic trainer identified a dislocation and reduced the humeroulnar joint on the first attempt. Aberrant landing biomechanics increase the risk of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury and are a focus of rehabilitation after ACL reconstruction. The purpose of the present thesis was to develop and evaluate methods of assessing landing mechanics and investigate the effects of different rehabilitation strategies after ACL reconstruction. Three studies were conducted. The first study used a Delphi process to develop the content of a Clinician-Rated Drop Vertical Jump Scale to evaluate jump landing mechanics during rehabilitation after ACL reconstruction. Introduction: Hip fractures are a major health problem globally and are associated with increased morbidity, mortality, and substantial economic costs. Successful operative treatment of hip fracture patients is necessary for the optimization of post-op mobility and functional recovery of the patient. Rehabilitation after surgical stabilization of a hip fracture is crucial in order to restore pre-fracture function and to avoid long-term institutionalization. In particular ongoing exercise which targets balance can prevent up to 40% of falls. Therefore, we have designed a post-discharge home-based physical rehabilitation intervention program to minimize disability and falls in this high-risk elderly population.

An estimated 80% of clubfoot cases occur in low to middle-income countries. Incidence of clubfoot is estimated to be 1-1.5 per 1000 births, and male to female occurrence is 3:1. (1) Left untreated, this congenital anomaly becomes a “neglected clubfoot” and can result in lifelong hardships including limited ambulation related to gait deviations, pain, foot deformities and an inability to wear shoes. Without treatment, this health condition can lead to functional limitations with limited independence in activities of daily living and participation restrictions within the family and community related to decreased mobility. Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) may assist clinicians in evaluating the recovery trajectory of patients with ankle sprains. However, before a large-scale study can be performed, it is necessary to determine whether it is feasible to collect PROMs in a busy clinic environment. The purpose of this study was to determine whether there is evidence to support conducting a larger randomized control trial (RCT) to compare the non-operative treatment of Achilles tendon (AT) ruptures with or without Autologous Conditioned Plasma (ACP®). Twenty-four patients were randomized to receive an ACP® or saline injection within seven days and again at two weeks post-rupture. Tendon healing was longitudinally evaluated using ultrasound (US) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Functional and patient-reported quality of life measures were also assessed. An additional aim was to explore associations between primary neck muscle endurance, myoelectric fatigability, and self-rated levels of fatigue, pain and subjective health measurements in patients with cervical radiculopathy.
