Introduction

Synovitis, acne, pustulosis, hyperostosis, and osteitis (SAPHO) syndrome is an autoinflammatory disease whose acronymic name stands for the symptoms commonly seen in the disease. These symptoms typically occur simultaneously, in different combinations, in patients during exacerbations of the disease. SAPHO syndrome is a rare disease, most frequently seen in patients aged 30 to 50. It is estimated to be found in 1 in 10 000 persons in White populations, with an even lower incidence seen in non-White populations.

Introduction: Phlegmasia cerulea dolens (PCD) is an uncommon, potentially life-threatening complication of acute deep venous thromboses that requires a timely diagnosis. The name of the condition, the visual diagnostic criteria, and the preponderance of cases in the literature referencing findings exclusively in patients with lighter skin complexions means that PCD may not be on the differential diagnosis for the patient with more melanated skin who is experiencing this time-sensitive vascular emergency. Objective: To assess the diagnostic accuracy of the IOLMaster 700 foveal scans to detect foveal pathology compared with a standard swept-source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT) device.
Results: One hundred seventy eye scans of 95 patients were included in the final analyses. Ninety-nine (58.2%) scans were classified as abnormal by SS-OCT. Mean sensitivity of the biometry device was 67.5% (range: 51-84%) and mean specificity was 69.5% (range: 44-95%). Intra-class correlation coefficients were 0.912 and 0.835, for reader 1 and 2, respectively. Area under the curve for receiver operating curve was 0.726. Introduction: Bowel perforation is a serious emergency. Occasionally, sharp objects like toothpicks can get stuck in narrow parts of the small intestine, potentially resulting in impaction, obstruction, or perforation.
Presentation of case: A 20-year-old male arrived at our hospital's emergency department with sudden, severe abdominal pain persisting for 24 h. On examination, his abdomen showed tenderness, and bowel sounds were reduced. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CECT) indicated possible small intestine inflammation due to a foreign object and a diagnostic laparoscopy revealed a hyperemic terminal ileum.

BACKGROUND: AI/ML CAD tools can potentially improve outcomes in the high-stakes, high-volume model of trauma radiology. No prior scoping review has been undertaken to comprehensively assess tools in this subspecialty.

PURPOSE: To map the evolution and current state of trauma radiology CAD tools along key dimensions of technology readiness.

METHODS: Following a search of databases, abstract screening, and full-text document review, CAD tool maturity was charted using elements of data curation, performance validation, outcomes research, explainability, user acceptance, and funding patterns. Here we present the case of a 37-year-old male with a finger injury in which finger dislocation was suspected clinically. A bedside pocket ultrasound was performed using a water submersion technique, which identified a posterior dislocated right 2nd digit at the PIP joint. This finding was confirmed with an x-ray. This case report demonstrates that ultrasonography can be utilized to correctly identify finger dislocation. Although larger studies need to be performed to validate the accuracy of this imaging technique, the implications may improve care of the patient. Mitomycin C (MMC) is a common chemotherapeutic agent used to treat a variety of solid tumors. Cutaneous adverse events are rare, but MMC is a known vesicant reported to cause tissue necrosis and sloughing, erythema, and ulceration if incorrectly infused into the subcutaneous tissue. Definitive treatment of extravasation injuries due to MMC depends on the severity of the cutaneous manifestation, which includes stopping the infusion, removing the catheter, or possible debridement.

Orthopedic metallic prostheses are commonly used in the current practice of orthopedic surgery. Although, biomaterials used in these implants are generally considered to be biologically inert, there have been consequences of foreign body reactions and potential carcinogenesis. Majority of implant-related malignancies are high grade, and develop in bone or soft tissue around the implant site. No clear association has been identified between the biomaterial implanted and the type of sarcoma. We report the case of a 36-year-old male who underwent intramedullary nailing of femur for mid-shaft fracture secondary to trauma and presented with osteogenic sarcoma of femur 14 months later.

He had a decreasing hemoglobin for which he required red blood cell transfusions. His chest x-ray showed near complete white-out of the left lung. Bedside ultrasound (Handheld Sonostar C4PL) showed a large pleural effusion with swirling echogenic material suggestive of plankton sign.
