Background: The potential benefits of individualized guided selection of antiplatelet therapy over standard antiplatelet therapy in improving outcomes in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) have not been established. Therefore, we pooled evidence from available clinical trials to assess the effectiveness by comparing the two regimens in patients undergoing PCI.

Background: Illness predictive scoring systems are significant and meaningful adjuncts of patient management in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). They assist in predicting patient outcomes, improve clinical decision making and provide insight into the effectiveness of care and management of patients while optimizing the use of hospital resources. We evaluated mortality predictive performance of Simplified Acute Physiology Score (SAPS 3) and Mortality Probability Models (MPM0-III) and compared their performance in predicting outcome as well as identifying disease pattern and factors associated with increased mortality.

Despite reductions in sepsis mortality, there remains a substantial morbidity burden among children who survive sepsis. Furthermore, the majority develop multiple organ ‘group has historically been analyzed as a single cohort. Using the Life After Pediatric Sepsis Evaluation (LAPSE) investigation database, we studied the association of new and progressive multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (NPMODS) with morbidity and mortality among children with septic shock. Many researchers focus on the medical complications associated with labor, such as hemorrhage, eclampsia, or infection. Introduction: Given the current era of decreasing hospital bed availability, there has been a rise in the practice of direct discharge to home (DDH) from ICUs. We evaluated the demographics, clinical characteristics, outcomes and readmission patterns among DDH patients.

Methods: Retrospective review of patients from 2 MICUs from June 2017 to June 2019 at Thomas Jefferson University hospital, an urban tertiary care center. Primary outcome of interest was 30-day hospital readmission. Patients were dichotomized into two groups based on time between ward transfer order and hospital discharge (<24 or ≥24 hours). Risk adjustment performed with Mortality Probability Model (MPM0 -III). ICU workload at admission and discharge was estimated with nine equivalents of nursing manpower use score (NEMS). Patient characteristics compared using t-test and Fisher exact or χ² test.

Of these, the Pulmonary Embolism Severity Index (PESI) and the simplified PESI (sPESI) are the most well-known, although more recent composite models, like the BOVA score, are now being studied and implemented. Background

We analyzed the causes and results of utilization of critical careservices in the special care unit in patients after surgical proceduresperformed by the hepatobiliary surgical service during a 23-month period.

Results

Thirty-two of 537 patients (6.0%) required postoperative admissionto the special care unit. Twenty-one patients were admitted directly fromoperating room or from recovery room because of inability to wean fromventilator (n = 10), hypovolemic shock (n = 4), myocardialischemia or infarction (n = 2), sepsis (n = 2), uppergastrointestinal bleeding (n = 2), and acute renal failure (n=1).
