The Development And Structure Of The Tooth Enamel And The Nature Of Deterioration, Anderson Hill Apr 2022

The Development And Structure Of The Tooth Enamel And The Nature Of Deterioration, Anderson Hill

Senior Honors Theses

The tooth enamel is developed through a careful process to give its characteristic hardness, but bacteria colonization in the form of plaque and certain dietary habits can compromise this. The development of the tooth involves an intricate process that incorporates proteins and minerals to produce the toughest tissue in the human body. The enamel possesses a distinct crystal lattice with many minerals involved. Under acidic conditions, the integrity of the crystals that make up the tooth enamel can become compromised. Harmful bacteria, such as Streptococcus mutans of the mouth combine with carbohydrates that are consumed to produce acids that are …

Simulating Implant Procedures In Dentistry, Brandon Patterson

Frameless

The School of Dentistry in partnership with the health sciences library at the University of Utah developed VR simulations for dental implants. The benefits of using the technology included providing endless scenarios, evaluation measures, and experiential learning experiences for students [1]. The school administration found that the simulations kept pace with the requirements of regulatory authorities, helped reduce costs in dental education, and found that students who trained in VR scored significantly better than traditional methods largely due to their ability to repeat tasks and receive instant feedback [2, 3].

Here, we report an educational consensus and perspectives of rural Honduras through a questionnaire distributed at 13 mobile dental clinics in remote villages. To assess the effectiveness of education, the World Health Organization (WHO) has deemed two important indices in assessing trends: Community Periodontal Index of …

The Journal of the Michigan Dental Association

This 10-Minute EBD column critically evaluates the outcomes of digital scans versus conventional impressions in fabricating single-unit crowns, focusing on factors such as marginal and internal fit. Employing a PICO question and a literature search pathway via PubMed, the analysis includes systematic reviews and meta-analyses. Findings suggest that crowns from digital scans generally exhibit clinically acceptable marginal and internal fit, often outperforming conventional impressions.
