Background: Predictive factors for performing remplissage concomitantly with arthroscopic Bankart repair include the presence of humeral or glenoid defects >11% and/or revision surgery. International and societal consensus statements support these findings, as surgeons recommend the Latarjet procedure for patients with significant glenoid bone loss (>15-20%) while remplissage is recommended for patients with off-track or engaging Hill-Sachs lesions without significant glenoid bone loss. While several studies have compared outcomes between Latarjet surgery and remplissage, these studies have only evaluated patients with engaging Hill-Sachs lesions, not consecutive patient cohorts indicated for each surgery.

Minimally invasive surgery (MIS) has been adopted as an approach in kidney surgery. Laparoscopic kidney surgery has been introduced in the 1990s with robotics emerging a decade after. The minimally invasive approach has been technically feasible and has been shown to be noninferior with preserved oncology standards to open surgery. The ubiquitous use of MIS for kidney cancer has been standard of practice; however, unplanned conversion to open kidney surgery has been characterized at 4.9% for laparoscopic radical nephrectomy compared to 6.0% in robotic radical nephrectomy. Those who suffer a partial thickness ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) tear often undergo a period of nonoperative management including physical therapy rehabilitation. This treatment is aimed at optimizing range of motion (ROM) and strengthening the supporting structures around the elbow to help offload the UCL.

Unfortunately, some of these patients fail nonoperative management and require surgical intervention. This creates a unique set of patients who essentially underwent “prehabilitation” prior to their UCL surgery. Background: Infliximab has been shown to be effective in achieving clinical remission in patients with ulcerative colitis (UC) refractory to conventional therapy. However, there is conflicting data in the literature regarding its effectiveness as rescue therapy in acute severe colitis. Furthermore, most studies were conducted in adults, and pediatric onset of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is associated with more severe disease that may be less amenable to rescue therapy.

Background: Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is a well-known complication occurring in the most premature infants leading to visual impairment and in the most severe cases associated with retinal detachment and childhood blindness. Factors contributing the development of ROP include chronic hypoxia and disordered vascular genesis primarily through the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) signaling pathway. Infants at risk of developing ROP are screened with serial eye exam and treated with either laser surgery or intraocular injects of bevacizumab (Avastin) to prevent progression of ROP and preserve vision. Background: As rates of antimicrobial resistance increase, the use of prophylactic perioperative antibiotics (PPA) has been questioned in cases with a low risk of surgical site infection (SSI). In laparoscopic cholecystectomy performed for biliary dyskinesia, hyperkinetic gallbladder, and gallbladder polyps, the use of PPA varies with no widely accepted practice pattern.

Objectives/Goal: We examined institutional PPA usage and SSI rates for elective laparoscopic cholecystectomy to determine if PPAs are indicated.

Blood transfusions are currently the treatment of choice for significant blood loss. However, there are a variety of reasons for which they cannot be utilized. Current alternatives are acute normovolemic hemodilution (ANH) and cell 1 This study analyzes whether ANH or cell salvage is more effective in minimizing blood loss in perioperative or trauma patients. Multiple different studies involving either ANH or cell salvage were compared to each other. However, due to the lack of research conducted in either method, results obtained were largely inconclusive.

While all-inside suture fixation devices have improved, the ability to successfully perform this procedure via arthroscopy is reliant upon the surgeon's ability to utilize a variety of fixation techniques. Based upon the review of the literature, this paper is the first of it's kind describing the methodology and algorithm for completing an arthroscopic medial meniscus transplant using four techniques.

This study presents a case report of a rare complication of foreign body ingestion and offers a literature review of management options. Pre-operative imaging and clinical history was reviewed. During diagnostic laparoscopy the diagnosis of ascending colon perforation with a foreign body was made and managed with a Laparoscopic Right Hemicolectomy. Literature was reviewed for case of toothpick ingestion requiring intervention, foreign body ingestion causing perforation, and management of foreign body perforations.

With an incidence rate of only 0.04% at autopsy and only 250 documented cases since the early 1800’s, aortoduodenal fistulas are the most deadly complications of intestinal transplantation with a mortality rate of 100% without surgical intervention. Rationale: The purpose of this study is to investigate the stored stability of dilutions of neuromuscular blocking agents (NMBAs), namely cisatracurium, rocuronium, and vecuronium, for skin prick/intradermal testing.

Methods: Concentrations of NMBAs were monitored by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) for a period of 14 days. Dilutions of NMBAs were prepared in saline by factors of 10x, 100x, 1,000x, 10,000x, and 100,000x as sensitivity of the assay allowed. Diluted drug products were stored in a laboratory refrigerator until sampling. On sampling days, aliquots of each dilution were removed and compared to a freshly prepared set of reference dilutions.

Clinical functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) is an ideal, noninvasive method for localizing language cortex yet remains to be validated for this purpose.
