Lymphangioma is a benign congenital malformation of the lymphatic system that is relatively common in juvenile population. Rarely, it can be seen in adults and majority of the cases are reported in the head and neck region (70-75%). Typically, these malformations are asymptomatic. In this report, we present a rare case of splenic lymphangioma presenting with severe, intractable abdominal pain.

•Spontaneous fungal peritonitis (SFP) is an infection defined as a neutrophil count (> 250 cells/mL) in the ascitic fluid with the evidence of positive fungal culture (1) while excluding other intra-abdominal infections. SFP is not as common as spontaneous bacterial peritonitis and has higher mortality rates due to late recognition and difficulty in differentiation between SFP and SBP. (1,2). The common risk factors that have shown to increase the mortality for SFP include hepatorenal syndrome, patient on SBP prophylaxis, elevated APACHE II scores on admission, and elevated lactate levels (2,3). Candida albicans and Candida glabrata are the two …

A Gastric Bezoar is defined as an accumulation of indigestible foreign material found in an individual’s GI tract. The incidence of gastric bezoar is 0.3% as reported by endoscopy studies. These formations usually consist of insoluble vegetable matter (phytobezoars), hair (trichobezoars), or medications (pharmacobezoar). In general, they can be asymptomatic for many years or cause nonspecific symptoms including abdominal pain, early satiety, and weight loss. However, in recent years, these have become increasingly problematic for the general population attributing to a variety of GI disturbances. We are reporting a case which revolves around a female patient with no history of …

Endovascular Management Of Free Floating Common Carotid Thrombi, Kevin Carr Md, Zachary Thwing Md, Ravishankar Shivashankar Md, Yafell Serulle Md
Radiology
- The incidence of symptomatic free-floating thrombi of the common carotid artery (CCA) is as low as 0.24-5% incidence in stroke victims. Patients are predisposed to a prothrombotic state
- Historical management options were limited to surgical and medical options both with individual attendant risk profiles
- Large thrombi can present with various degrees of clinical severity
- The endovascular approach is a viable tool to manage these patients
