Mites On Kangaroo Rats At The Nevada Test Site, Morris A. Goates Oct 1963

Mites On Kangaroo Rats At The Nevada Test Site, Morris A. Goates

Brigham Young University Science Bulletin, Biological Series

A systematic study of parasitic mites on kangaroo rats of two species at the Nevada Test Site was conducted from August 1959 to December 1961. The intent was to determine the kinds, numbers, seasonal occurrences and ecological relationships of mites in nuclear disturbed and contiguous undisturbed areas. A total of 1,256 rats from nine plant communities was examined.

The 6,208 mites collected represented 16 species including four undescribed. Fourteen were found on both kinds of rats. Considerably more rats were infested with chiggers than with mesostigmatids. Each species of mite occurred alone on its host at least 20% of the …

A Study Of Interpersonal Techniques In The Emergency Room, Malcye Wisdoma Bush Oct 1963

A Study Of Interpersonal Techniques In The Emergency Room, Malcye Wisdoma Bush

Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects

The purpose of this study was to assess nurse-patient interaction in the stress-producing situation of a hospital emergency room. The problem was to ascertain if interpersonal techniques in the emergency room were therapeutic or nontherapeutic.

The following subproblems were studied: (1) Does the interaction between professional nursing personnel and emergency room patients tend to be more therapeutic than the interaction between nonprofessional nursing personnel and emergency room patients? (2) What interpersonal techniques are most used by nursing personnel in the emergency room? (3) Does the type of patient influence the therapeutic or nontherapeutic interaction of the nursing personnel in the …

The Development In Vitro And In Vivo Of Fusion Of The Palatal Processes Of Rat Embryos, Thomas Moriarty, Sam Weinstein, R. D. Gibson Sep 1963

The Development In Vitro And In Vivo Of Fusion Of The Palatal Processes Of Rat Embryos, Thomas Moriarty, Sam Weinstein, R. D. Gibson

College of Dentistry: Faculty Publications

The congenital anomaly of cleft palate can now be reproduced by a variety of teratogenetic agents in a number of laboratory animals (Kalter & Warkany, 1959). Through the use of the induced cleft palate numerous studies have been directed toward detecting the developmental mishaps which create this defect. The work of Fraser et al. (1957) suggested that various positional factors of the developing palatal and facial structures may be the underlying cause for failure of palatal closure in mouse embryos. Walker & Fraser (1956) observed elastic fibers among the palatal processes of mouse embryos which they suggested might impart a …
