Advocates of low-carbohydrate (LC) diets assert that these diets help lessen dependence on sugar while aiding in the metabolism of fat tissue. Additionally, it is believed that lipolysis helps dieters feel more energetic, lose weight, and improve physical performance. For these reasons, many athletes and active people are drawn to diets such as the Atkins Diet, the South Beach Diet, the Paleo Diet, and the Zone Diet. According to current evidence, excessive weight loss, ketosis, reduced glycogen availability, dehydration, and increased stress hormone levels make LC diets that severely limit carbohydrates disadvantageous for athletes. In response to raised consumer awareness of health and well-being many manufacturers are transforming popular food items into functional foods with higher nutritional value. Typical pasta recipes consist of all purpose (AP) flour and/ or semolina flour which contain minimal nutritional value. Resistant Starch (RS) contains a high fiber profile accompanied by many physiological benefits. This study investigated the effect of partial substitution of RS for semolina and AP flours on functional, nutritional, and sensory properties of handmade pasta. Residential Treatment Of Adult Women With Eating Disorders, Chelsea Cook

A qualitative-type study was done in which residents of a residential eating disorder facility were interviewed about their eating disorder and daily life in the treatment center. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics uses the Nutrition Care Process which includes Intervention amongst its four steps. This study will look at the intervention of nutrition education and counseling on these residents and relate it back to Social Learning theory.
Eight residents agreed to the study. All participants were female, and ages ranged from 18-38 with an average age of 24.75. The registered dietitian serving the residents was also interviewed. Interviews were …

In 2006, autism was recognized as a national problem due to a sharp increase in the prevalence of autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Characteristics of autism include impairments in the areas of social interaction, communication, and play, while demonstrating restricted or repetitive interests and activities. Children diagnosed with ASDs may also develop angry outbursts or feeding difficulties. An estimated one-third of autistic children have a gastrointestinal (GI) disorder. Theories as to why GI distress is common with autism have resulted in the research of different therapeutic treatments. Vitamin A deficiency (VAD) affects people all over the world. The most severely affected individuals are those in countries where access to Vitamin A rich foods such as dark leafy greens and dark red or orange vegetables, along with liver, eggs, and cheeses are not readily available. Vitamin A deficiency most harmfully affects young children, where it is needed for correct development, and pregnant women, where Vitamin A stores are depleted.
