Ecology And Control Of Brome Grass In Cropping Systems., Christine Zaicou
Experimental Summaries - Plant Research
1. Assessment of the timing and increasing rates of ethiozin on brome grass control and wheat yield.
Trial 90EC16, 90GE115,
Control of brome grass in wheat using Ethiozin applied immediately before the following seeding and post-emergence.
Location: East Chapman Research Station, Allanooka
Incomplete factorial with three replications.
Unfortunately, further research and development of ethiozin has ceased world wide. It has suggested a result of limited activity on target weeds other than brome grass and economics.
2. Evaluation of pine kraft lignin with metribuzin and their incorporation, on wheat yield and brome grass control.
Trial 90EC18

Pursuit For Weed Control In Peas., S. Curtin
Pursuit For Weed Control In Peas., S. Curtin
Experimental Summaries - Plant Research
All trials were located in Merredin.
Trial 90ME86
This trial was one of the best demonstrations of pursuits effectiveness against mustard in particular. Other weeds were rough poppy and ryegrass and a small amount of cereal and doublegee.
250 ml applied immediate before seeding (IBS) was by far the best treatment with 100% control of mustard and poppy and good ryegrass control. This is in contract to 375 ml most emergent which had good control of mustard (77%) and suppression of ryegrass. There was no yield advantage from the post emergent treatment but there was a 55% yield increase from …

Trial 90GL26
Effect of growth stage at application of response to atrazine.
To determine the optimum stage for application of atrazine to show the most consistent and maximum differences between varieties of lupins in glasshouse tolerance trials.
Trial 90GL28
Response to lupin varieties to metribuzin applied post emergence.
This is an initial quick screening to determine if the same pattern of responses occurs when metribuzin is applied as when simazine/atrazine is used. Field rates were used assuming that there are 1,250,000 pots/ha. The recommended rate applied to peas is 300g/ha so this was used as an estimate of the amount …

Trials : 88BY26, 88PE34, 88MD35
Control of Rhizoctonia solani infection of potato stems and daughter tubers was demonstrated by preplanting applications of tolclofos-methyl (RIZOLEX TM) to either cut or round seed tubers. Yield of tubers from cut seed treated with Rizolex was increased over that of cut seed cured before planting bu not when seed was cut and planted the same day. Crops grown from round seed treated with Rizolex yielded higher than from untreated round seed.
Surface sterilization of seed tubers with Sodium hypochlorite was effective in reducing stem damage but not in reducing daughter tuber sclerotes. This indicates …

Seed Production And Hard Seededness Of Trifolium Subterraneum Subsp Brachycalycinum, Michael D A Bolland
Seed Production And Hard Seededness Of Trifolium Subterraneum Subsp Brachycalycinum, Michael D A Bolland
Technical Bulletins
Ungrazed swards of some subsp. brachycalycinum strains produced reasonable seed yields compared with subsp. subterraneum on the sandplain soils and annual Medicago species on the alkaline mallee soils. However, in swards which were grazed by sheep up to the start of flowering, subsp. brachycalycinum produced disappointing seed yields compared with subsp. subterraneum and annual Medicago species. On a sandy soil, prevention of burr burial compared with covering developing burrs with sand drastically reduce ation an inhibiting light factor operates to drastically reduce seed production.

The project aims to develop, by breeding and selection, better adapted and more productive low-oestrogen cultivars of subterranean clover for a range of environments in southern Australia. The programme is a collaborative one with the University of Western Australia and consists of two phases (i) early generation selection, which involves selecting varieties satisfying primary selection criteria; and (ii) field evaluation of advanced lines, which is conducted by the Departments of Agriculture in each State and co-ordinated by the Plant Breeder. The first phase is conducted …

Location: Private farm 'Monalta' - south-east of Katanning.
As outlined by S. Flecker in the 1987 summary for this trial, the expected result of the research is that the feeding value of burr medic pastures will be greater than the feeding value of sub. clover and barrel medic pasture, particularly over the dry summer/autumn period.
