A Mechanistic Hypothesis Of The Factors That Enhance Vulnerability To Nicotine Use In Females, Laura O'Dell

Women are particularly more vulnerable to tobacco use than men. This review proposes a unifying hypothesis that females experience greater rewarding effects of nicotine and more intense stress produced by withdrawal than males. We also provide a neural framework whereby estrogen promotes greater rewarding effects of nicotine in females via enhanced dopamine release in the nucleus accumbens (NAcc). During withdrawal, we suggest that corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF) stress systems are sensitized and promote a greater suppression of dopamine release in the NAcc of females versus males. Cleaning and removal of water hyacinth from lakes and various historical places government spends lacks of rupees per year. High rate of propagation and easy availability, water-hyacinth could be used as a renewable carbon source for alcohol (fuel ethanol) production. Water-hyacinth’s (Eichhornia crassipes) hemicellulose acid hydrolysate has been utilized as a substrate for alcohol production using Pichia stipitis NCIM3497. Acid hydrolysis were carried out by using (1% v/v) sulfuric acid. Perhydrolysate was detoxified, boiled and overlimed up to pH 10.0 with NaOH to produce acid hydrolysate. Certain epidemiological studies revealed correlation between hard water consumption (with high calcium) and thyroid size of the population, though the possible alterations in thyroid physiology upon calcium exposure are still inconclusive. Adult male Wistar strain rats were subjected to calcium treatment at the doses of 0.5g%, 1.0g% and 1.5g% calcium chloride (CaCl2) for 60 days. The parameters studied were -thyroid gland weight, histopathology, histomorphometry; thyroid peroxidase (TPO), 5'- deiodinase I (DI), sodium-potassium adenosine triphosphatase (Na+-K+-ATPase) activities; serum total and free thyroxine (tT4, fT4), total and free triiodothyronine (tT3, fT3), thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) levels. The ISI journal impact factor (JIF) is based on a sample that may represent half the whole-of-life citations to some journals, but a small fraction (<10%) of the citations accruing to other journals. This disproportionate sampling means that the JIF provides a misleading indication of the true impact of journals, biased in favour of journals that have a rapid rather than a prolonged impact. Many journals exhibit a consistent pattern of citation accrual from year to year, so it may be possible to adjust the JIF to provide a more reliable indication of a journal’s impact.

Ranking Forestry Journals Using The H-Index, Jerome K. Vanclay

An expert ranking of forestry journals was compared with Journal Impact Factors and h-indices computed from the ISI Web of Science and internet-based data. Citations reported by Google Scholar offer an efficient way to rank all journals objectively, in a manner consistent with other indicators. This h-index exhibited a high correlation with the Journal Impact Factor (r = 0.92), but is not confined to journals selected by any particular commercial provider. A ranking of 180 forestry journals is presented, on the basis of this index.

Myotonia is a symptom of many different acquired and genetic muscular conditions that impair the relaxation phase of muscular contraction. Myotonia congenital is a specific inherited disorder of muscle membrane hyperexcitability caused by reduced sarcolemmal chloride conductance due to mutations invCLCN1, the gene coding for the main skeletal muscle chloride channel ClC-1.The disorder may be transmitted as either an autosomal-dominant or recessive trait with close to 130 currently known mutations. Over the past 10 years mutations in voltage-gated sodium channels (Navs) have become closely associated with inheritable forms of epilepsy. One isoform in particular, Nav1.1 (gene symbol SCN1A), appears to be a superculprit, registering with more than 330 mutations to date. The associated phenotypes range from benign febrile seizures to extremely serious conditions, such as Dravet’s syndrome (SMEI). Despite the wealth of information, mutational analyses are cumbersome, owing to inconsistencies among the Nav1.1 sequences to which different research groups refer. Rapid clonal micropropagation protocol of Aegle marmelos (L.) Corr. cv. CISH-B1 was achieved by nodal stem segment of mature bearing tree. Three centimeter long shoots having one axillary bud excised from 10-15th nodal region of shoots during September gave quick in vitro bud burst (5.33 days) when cultured on MS medium supplemented with BAP, 8.84 μM + IAA 5.7 μM. The maximum number of proliferated shoots (9.0/explant) were obtained on same medium supplemented with BAP 8.84 μM + IAA 5.7 μM. Mutations in genes encoding neuronal voltage-gated sodium channel subunits have been linked to inherited forms of epilepsy. The majority of mutations (>100) associated with generalized epilepsy with febrile seizures plus (GEFS+) and severe myoclonic epilepsy of infancy (SMEI) occur in SCN1A encoding the NaV1.1 neuronal sodium channel alpha-subunit. Previous studies demonstrated functional heterogeneity among mutant SCN1A channels, revealing a complex relationship between clinical and biophysical phenotypes. To further understand the mechanisms responsible for mutant SCN1A behavior, we performed a comprehensive analysis of the single-channel properties of heterologously expressed recombinant WT-SCN1A channels. We have applied a high-speed counter-current chromatography (CCC) technique to the separation and purification of pyrrolizidine alkaloids from Amsinckia tessellata, Symphytum spp., Trichodesma incanum (Boraginaceae), and Senecio douglasii var. longilobus (Asteraceae). Alkaloidal fractions were separated in a solvent system composed of a chloroform mobile phase and 0.2 M potassium phosphate buffer, of an optimum pH, as the stationary phase. Up to 800 mg of sample could be successfully separated in a single run, with excellent resolution of alkaloids. Lycopsamine and several of its acetylated derivatives were resolved from alkaloidal fractions of Amsinckia and Symphytum. However, diastereomeric pairs such as 7-acetyl-lycopsamine …
