Hawks, Eagles, & Falcons Of North America: Biology And Natural History, Paul A, Johnsgard
Paul Johnsgard Collection
I have tried to present an adequate if far from exhaustive survey of the general biology, ecology, and behavior of all the included species, written so as to be understandable to the interested layman as well as useful to the biologist who might be looking for relevant literature citations or trying to deal with a specific question without resorting to extensive library searches. The larger number of species of North American hawklike birds (31, compared to 19 owl species) has required that I keep the individual species accounts substantially shorter. I have excluded the New World vultures from consideration, primarily …

First paragraph:
A Check List Of The Biota Of Lower Chesapeake Bay : With Inclusions From The Upper Bay And The Virginian Sea, Marvin L. Wass
A Check List Of The Biota Of Lower Chesapeake Bay : With Inclusions From The Upper Bay And The Virginian Sea, Marvin L. Wass
Reports
The biota of Chesapeake Bay seems generally less known than that of New England and much of our West Coast. The present work attempts to mollify this discrepancy. The compilation has been revised and expanded to include plants and vertebrates. Inclusion of creatures not strictly aquatic but which may occasionally found their areas flooded by tidal waters has necessitated subjective declsions of limitation.
Includes:
- Lower Plants
- Wetland and Dune Plants
- Phylum Protozoa
- Free-living Invertebrates (except Protozoa)
- Fishes of Chesapeake Bay and the Adjacent Coastal Plain
- Herptiles of the Maryland and Virginia
- Coastal Plain Birds Dependent on Open Water or Wetlands …

Papers in Ornithology
An attempt has been made to give as full a life history as possible of the best-known subspecies of each species and to avoid duplication by writing briefly of the others and giving only the characters of the subspecies, its range, and any -habits peculiar to it. In many cases certain habits, probably common to the species as a whole, have been recorded for only one subspecies. Such habits are mentioned under the subspecies on which the observations were made. The distribution gives the range of the species as a whole, with only rough outlines of the ranges of the …
