In the vegetation period, a total of 45 plant specimens were collected from the area between 1993 and 1995. At the end of this investigation 19 liverworts species were identified, belonging to 13 families and 14 genera. Of these, 8 taxa are new for the A3 grid-square. Blasia pusilla L., is reported for the second time from Turkey.

In Vitro Micropropagation Of Sainfoin ( Onobrychis Viciifolia Scop.), Cengi̇z Sancak

A method for in vitro micropropagation of sainfoin was developed. Following optimization of the growth regulator combinations in the media, large numbers of shoots were propagated from a single embryonic axis within 8 weeks on Murashige and Skoog (MS) media supplemented with combination of different 6-benzylaminopurine (BAP), indole-butyric acid (IBA) and ?-naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA) concentrations. Evaluation Of Various Sunflower ( Helianthus Annuus L.) Genotypes For Agrobacterium Tumefaciens-Mediated Gene Transfer, Ekrem Gürel, Kemal Kazan

In this work, 10 sunflower ( Helianthus annuus L.) genotypes were evaluated for their suitability for Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated gene transfer based on detection of a reported gene expression (GUS). A number of factors including the type of shoot-tip explant (split vs. intact), bacterial strain/binary vector combinations and wounding intact shoot-tips by particle bombardment were examined. Genotypes showed significant differences in their transformation efficiencies ranging from 0.0 to 82.7% GUS positive explants, hybrid genotypes being more responsive to Agrobacterium infection than inbred lines. Use of split shoot-tip explants did not increase the transformation efficiency over intact explants but the AGL-1/pKIWI strain/vector …

Pollen Morphology Of Turkish Chenopodium L. ( Chenopodiaceae), N. Münevver Pinar, Özden İnceoğlu

Pollen grains of 12 species of the genus Chenopodium L. ( Chenopodiaceae), of which morphological separation is problematical, have been examined in detail comparatively by using light microscopy (LM), scanning (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Pollen description of each taxon has been given. Pollen garins of ChenopodiumL. species examined are radially symmetrical, isopolar, pantopolyporate and spheroidal. Their exine structure is similar. In the genus, five pollen types have been defined, mainly on the basis of pollen size.

Field studies were conducted to determine the flora of Uludağ (Bursa) National Park during 1988, 1989 and 1996. Almost 180 plant specimens were collected in these studies. After the identification of these specimens, 85 taxa at specific and sub-specific ranks were determined. Of these, 28 taxa are new to the Al grid-square. In addition, Polytrichum commune var. perigoniale (Michx.) Hampe is a new record for the moss flora of Turkey.

This study was carried out for to contribute to the flora of Istranca (Yildiz) Mountains Iying from northwest to southeast on the north of Thrace Region between 1996-1997. The study area is placed in A1 (E) square in grid system adopted DAVIS and in Euro-Siberian phytogeographical region. According to the results of this study; 321 taxa belonging to 219 genera and 65 families were recorded. Among these taxa, there are 4 Pteridophytes and 317 Spermatophytes (253 Dicotyledones and 64 Monocotyledones). The largest families are as follows: Poaceae 38 taxa (11.83%), Asteraceae 35 taxa (10.90%) and Lamiaceae 21 taxa (6.54%). The …

The bimolecular interaction between Plastocyanin and Photosystem I under steady-state illumination was studied. The dependence of the O 2 consumption rate on Plastocyanin concentration, electrostratic effect in the presence of mono- and divalent cations and pH-dependence were investigated. A mechanism of activating complexes formation between Plastocyanin and Photosystem I in frame of trimeric structure of Photosystem I is proposed.

Agrobacterium Tumefaciens-Mediated Transformation Of Sesame (Sesamum Indicuml.), Kemal Meli̇h Taşkin, A. Gülhan Ercan, Kenan Turgut

Sesamum indicum L. cv. Özberk was infected with various Agrobacterium tumefaciens strains to screen susceptibility to infection by Agrobacteria. Following infection, tumorigenesis was efficient with wild type A. tumefaciens strains, A281 and A136 NC, and transgenic cells were obtained with disarmed A. tumefaciens strain LBA4404/pBI121, harbouring a reporter gene. At the wound sites, tumorigenesis induced by the succinamopine strain A281 was more extensive than by the octopine strain A136 NC.

Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated transformation of tobacco leaf discs was performed with plant transformation vec-tors of pBI 121 and pGus-Int. Both carry the neomycin phosphotransferase II ( npt II) gene and, unlike the pBI 121, pGus-Int car-ries a portable plant intron inside the beta-glucuronidase (GUS) gene. In addition to the integration of the marker genes into the genomes of primary transformants, R1 and R2 progenies were confirmed by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and Southern blot analyses. The possibility of transferring genes to mature wheat embryos ( Triticum aestivumL. and T. durum Desf.) via accelerated and DNA-coated tungsten particles was investigated. Mature embryos isolated from bread (cv. Atay) and durum (cv. Çakmak) wheat were utilised as targets for bombardment. DNA in the form of circular plasmid (pBSGUSINT) was precipitated on tungsten particles (ca. 2 \mum diameter) using the calcium nitrate method. Mature embryos were bombarded by a microprocessor-controlled particle delivery instrument (GENEBOOSTER TM ) driven by compressed nitrogen gas. A Palynological Survey Of Aquatic Flora Of Karachi-Pakistan, Anjum Perveen

The pollen morphology of 16 species of aquatic angiosperms, distributed in 14 families from Karachi was examined by light and scanning microscope. Pollen grains are usually free, rarely united, mostly radially symmetrical, isopolar-apolar, occasionally-heteropolar. Simple aperturate (porate or colpate) pollen are more frequently found. Number of apertures varies from 1-3 or more than 30, rarely compound aperture as in Enhydra fluctuans Lour. Tectum of the families also is quite variable, ranging from reticulate to rugulate, striate, fossulate, echinate or scabrate/areolate. In this work, the forest, macchie and hygrophilous vegetation of Kelkit Valley was studied. Interesingly the study area is a transitional zone along the boundries of Central Anatolia and the Central and East Black Sea regions. From the phytogeographical point of view this area is situated between the Euro-Siberian and Irano-Turanian floristic regions. This study was carried out according to the Braun-Blanquet method. Twelve plant associations and 2 subassociations were identified belonging to four different vegetation types. Ten of the associations and two subasociations here are determined as new associations. Vegetation tables are given.

An optimized regeneration protocol and a suitable transformation technique is a necessity in obtaining transgenic plants in a given plant species. This work summarizes a simple culture method to obtain rooted plants from leaf pieces of two tomato cul-tivars (ES58 and WC156) within 3-4 months. Here, we also present our preliminary results on transformation experiments carried out with 8-day-old cotyledon explants and Agrobacterium tumefaciensEHA105 strain.

An Investigation On Rooting Of Juglans Regia L. Hardwood Cuttings, Tohi̇t Güneş

The rootinf of Juglans regia L. ( Juglandeceae) hardwood cuttings was investigated. The cuttings were treated with a solution of 100 and 1000 ppm IBA concentrations. One and two year old shoot cuttings were used and carbohydrate changes were recorded during rooting. No rooting was observed in any cutting, 32% callus formation was observed on the basal parts of the cuttings. The flower buds burst earlier than the vegetative buds and developed male or female flowers. Callus formation rate or bud burst was not significantly affected by the treatment of IBA. This investigation was done basing on the macrofungi specimens collected from Izmir province situated in Eagean Region in the West Anatolia between 1992 and 1996. The Morphological, Anatomical And Karyological Propertiesof Salvia Sclarea L., Canan Özdemi̇r, Gülcan Şenel

The morphological, anatomical and karyological properties of Salvia sclarea L. were investigated. In addition, glandular and eglandular hairs were examined and classified. In the morphological study it was observed that the species have a perennial root system. The herbaceous stem is rectangular. Leaves are simple. Glandular and eglandular hairs are present on both surfaces of the leaves. Inflorescence is compound raceme. In anatomical studies, the internal morphological features of root, stem, leaf, petiole and flower were determined. The chromosome morphology of this species was examined and the diploid chromosome number was found to be 2n=22.

This investigation englightens the morphological, anatomical and ecological characteristics of Kazdağı endemics namely Allium reuterianum Boiss. and Allium sibthorpianum Schultes & Schultes fil. (Liliaceae). A. sibthorpianum occurs in Bursa, Kütahya, Denizli, Isparta and Çanakkale (newly recorded), whereas A. reuterianum is found in Southwest Anatolia, Islands, Manisa, Denizli, Muğla, Isparta and Çanakkale (newly recorded). Root anatomy of A. sibthorpianum and A. reuterianum typically show exodermis and an empty pith. In addition in the scapes of both the species layering in the area between epidermis and cuticle results in its thickening. The leaves in both species are not hairy. Reticulate shaped open …

The vegetation mosaic around the Second Center of Tourism Development in Uludağ (Bursa) was determined by aerial photographs and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) techniques. The vegetation characteristic of the area is composed of dwarf shrub formation (Vaccinium myrtillus-Juniperus communis-comm. and Juniperus communis-comm.). In addition, a database related to the vegetation mosaic of the area was prepared.
