In this study the effects of wood species cutting direction, number of blades, sander grade and feed rate on the surface roughness of planned and sanded massive wood have been investigated. Choses wood species were beech (Fagus orientalis Lipsky) and yellow pine (Pinus Sylvestris L.) which are mostly used in furniture and carpentary industry in Turkey. "MITUTOYA SURFEST-402" (KOSGEB, Ankara, TURKEY) stylus scanner machine was used to evaluate the surface roughness. Fourty eight samples were performed and each sample was divided in to 8 equal region. Two measurements were performed perpendicular to fibers along the length of 20 mm. Sample …

The Relationships Between Penetration Resistance And Certain Soil Properties, Cevdet Şeker

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

The purpose of this study was to determine the relationships between penetration resistance and certain soil properties, and to develop regression equations based on these relationships for predicting penetration resistance. Field studies were conducted on four different Entisol soils in plains in the Konya regions. Below 0.2 \mum, pore-size distribution was found to be positively relatd to soil penetration resistanca and bulk density. Above 50 \mum, pro-size distribution was found to be negatively related to soil penetration resistance and total porosity.

Cost Of Bread Making In Central Samsun And An Economic Analysis Of The Factors Affecting Bread Prices, Hüseyi̇n Avni̇ Ci̇nemre, Mehmet Bozoğlu

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Most of the bread making units in the central district of the province of Samsun are small-scale and have so-called "black-oven" technology. On average, 500 kg of flour is processed daily in a bakery and in doing so only 37.3 percent of the total daily capacity of the bakery is utilized. Bread sold at kiosks, small grocery stores and in markets makes up 62.5 percent of total bread sales. The rest is sold directly by the production units. The production cost of a 250 gr loaf at bakeries is 12,848 TL and this figure reaches 15,098 TL when the marketing …

Examination Of Long-Term (1929-1990) Daily Minimum, Mean And Maximum Temperature Values Of Adana By Time Series Analysis, Ali̇ Yücel, Fati̇h Topaloğlu

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Climatic changes observed historically need to be known accurately in order to understand the present climatic conditions and to estimate climatic changes to be occur in future. In studies to be done to determine temporal variation of climatic variables, it is accepted that changes can be defined certainly in deterministic methods, and the result of the statistical methods have also spot errors due to the shortage of observation periods and random of observations. In this respect, a model presenting interested climate variable is developed depending on present short observation period. Then, parameters related to the developed model are estimated and …

Investigation On Changes In Physical And Chemical Properties Of Palm Kernel Oil During Hydrogenation, İhsan Karabulut, Muammer Kayahan Jan 1999

Investigation On Changes In Physical And Chemical Properties Of Palm Kernel Oil During Hydrogenation, İhsan Karabulut, Muammer Kayahan

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Palm kernel oil was hydrogenated discontinuously for a period of 100 min at 165°C and 2,5 atm in the presence of nickel catalyst (%0,18). The changes in iodine number, fatty acid composition, trans fatty acid content and solid fat content during the hydrogenation were investigated for samples taken at 10 min intervals. According to the findings, while iodine number was gradually decreased during the reaction, trans fatty acid content increased significantly. Reaction conditions had increased effect on stearic acid formation from monoens. Trans fatty acid and total saturated fatty acid amounts increased proportionally with increase in SFC values.

In result, average cluster, berry weight and their size were decreased under PE. However, uniformity in berry size and color and total shoot length and growth did not differ among applications. PE was found …

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

This study was carried out on the natural range and meadows of Atatürk University in Erzurum, 1996. Recorded species in the study were separated into 16 grasses, 16 legumes and 60 other families. High percentages of the ungrazed species (approximately % 60) indicate that the rangelands have seriously been degrated. In chemical analysis, grasses had the highest crude cellulose content, while legumes had the highest crude protein content, and legumes and other families had the highest mineral element content. In conclusion some wild species on the district rangelands could successfully be utilized in the range improvement.

Investigation Of Optimum Tillage Depth For Sunflower In Crop Rotation Under Central Anatolian Conditions, Yaşar Murat Çeli̇k, İlhami̇ Ünver

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Optimum tillage depth for sunflower after wheat was studied on Brown soils at two locations in Central Anatolia. The experiments were constituted as split randomized blocks with three replications, the treatments were 9-11, 14-16, 19-21 and 24-26 cm tillage depths. Weeds were permitted for growing in the half of every plot in order to test their adverse effect on sunflower yield. Optimum tillage depth under the research conditions was 14-16 cm from the points of economy and yield. Weed infestation significantly decreased the sunflower yield.
