Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering
Background
A rural village in Thailand has always been limited in access to waste collection services and processing facilities. As a result, their behaviors of disposing waste in ineffective manners such as dumping and burning causes a variety of environmental impacts. In addition, the people dwelling in these areas are often unaware of the health risks associated to these types of engagements because of the inadequate education system. For a long time coming these circumstances remained untouched until a non-profit organization recently shed light to the need for a solution. An investigation, to develop a design solution in order to …

Process Design For Aeration Of Facial Prosthetic, Nathaniel J. Urciuoli
Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering
Facial prosthetics are becoming a necessary step for the recovery of injured veterans and civilians who have suffered severe facial burning. Current users of such prosthetics are not able to wear the prosthetic for an extended period of time due to uncomfortable conditions created by the silicone material. A solution for this problem was to develop a process for creating small holes similar to skin pores that will both ventilate and aid in the evaporation of accumulated sweat under the prosthetic.
The main steps of this process were to create a flexible fixture capable of supporting and securing the prosthetic …

Effects Of Meeting Spaces On The Performance Of A Concept Selection Task By Engineering Design Teams, Necmettin Ozkan
All Theses
Given the increasing importance of collaboration and the resulting use of virtual tools, this research investigates the performance of engineering design teams using a concept selection task in three meeting spaces, face-to-face, 2D online and 3D virtual. Cisco's WebEx and Sun Microsystems' Wonderland were used as the 2D online meeting space and the 3D virtual environment, respectively. Twenty-four two-person design teams were formed and randomly assigned to the meeting spaces. Eight teams performed a cell-phone concept selection task in each meeting space. Four dependent variables were measured: task completion time, team satisfaction, self-evaluated quality and expert-evaluated quality. Following data collection, …
Design Of An 8-Channel Data Acquisition System For Measuring Diode Junction Temperature, Jason Maynard
Design Of An 8-Channel Data Acquisition System For Measuring Diode Junction Temperature, Jason Maynard
Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering
The solid state lighting industry is striving to expand the use of light emitting diodes (LEDs) in more applications, particularly in high brightness applications. As the power of LEDs increase, heat removal becomes a critical issue. To improve device lifetime, quantum efficiency, and LED colour, the diode p-n junction temperature (Tj) must be kept to a minimum. Measuring this key parameter is difficult or impossible with direct methods, such as thermocouples and infrared cameras, due to the small size of LEDs. Fortunately, junction temperature can be measured indirectly by using a relationship between the diode forward voltage (Vf) and junction …

Building Relationships That Last: Integrating Public Relations Into Web Design, Richard V. Mccarthy, Jay E. Aronson, Robert Petrausch
Journal of International Technology and Information Management
This paper explores the relationship between web site design, public relations strategy, and a consumer’s intention to return to a web site. This relationship is defined through a model that explores the influence of information satisfaction, particularly when the web site design is congruent with the consumer’s expectations. The public relations dimension extends the consumer web site design model by interjecting a long-term focus on relationship building that organizations will need to make electronic commerce a viable investment in information technology resources. This is significant because it recognizes the importance of developing loyalty and trust online.

Trends In Milking Systems, G W. Scott
Trends In Milking Systems, G W. Scott
Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4
Twice daily milking is an essential task for the dairy farmer and the speed of milking influences the time available to him for other work and to the cows for extra grazing.
Modern milking systems can greatly contribute to these requirements by allowing the owner-farmer to handle a greater number of cows unaided, or in other situations to release labour from the shed for other work.
The following review leads from the better known basic sheds to the most modern types.
