Student Works

The project was a research endeavor focused on designing and building a vending machine for 3D-printed parts. It also had the secondary objective of catalyzing leadership qualities among its membership by emphasizing individual responsibility and forward thinking. The project began in the spring of 2015, when the topic of autonomous 3D-printing was chosen, funding was secured, and the majority of the leadership was brought on. Over the summer and into the fall semester the team developed project requirements and infrastructure, and gathered members from the parent organization. By December of 2015 most of the machine design had been completed, and …

Determining The Print Accuracy Of Four Three-Dimensional Printers, Kshiteej Dalal Aug 2016

Determining The Print Accuracy Of Four Three-Dimensional Printers, Kshiteej Dalal

Master of Technology Management Plan II Graduate Projects

Rapid prototyping [RP] or 3D printing [3DP] have existed for some time now. One of the major deficiencies of 3DP is the accuracy of the printed three dimensional parts. Even beyond that is the lack of studies that have been designed to measure the 3DP components. Measuring, verifying and determining the accuracy of 3DP parts is the focus of this study. As the accuracy is measured and approaches those of CNC machined parts, it will drive the development of additional additive manufacturing [AM] machinery. In this project a component is created in a solid modeling package. A solid model of …

Assessing User Expectations Of Undo In A Multi-User Cad Environment, Jeffrey Eric Nuss Apr 2016

Assessing User Expectations Of Undo In A Multi-User Cad Environment, Jeffrey Eric Nuss

Theses and Dissertations

Undo is a command that users rely on in most software applications. Its importance in multi-user CAD is no different. However, due to its unique nature, users may have different expectations regarding how undo should behave. This research seeks to better understand users' expectations regarding undo in multi-user CAD by having users participate in collaborative design exercises and then asking them how they would expect undo to behave. In addition, users participated in a survey in which they watched 8 videos showing users interacting within multi-user CAD and were then asked about how they would want undo to behave. Based …

Asme Mini-Baja Rc Car (Steering And Suspension Systems), Michael E. Cox Jan 2016

Asme Mini-Baja Rc Car (Steering And Suspension Systems), Michael E. Cox

All Undergraduate Projects

The issue that this project is concerned with is how to design and build a drivetrain, steering and suspension systems for an RC car. The systems must be simple and functional. Furthermore, these systems will be designed to fit on a small chassis and not interfere with each other. They also need to be strong and durable enough to propel the car forward and maneuver through various obstacles and be built in a way that is easy to take apart and repair quickly. These design problems were approached using basic mechanical design concepts such as gear kinematics, spur and bevel …
