Enhancing Traffic Safety In Unpredicted Environments With Integration Of Adas Features With Sensor Fusion In Intelligent Electric Vehicle Platform With Implementation Of Environmental Mapping Technology, David S. Obando Ortegon

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

A major objective on society is to reduce the number of accidents and fatalities on the road for drivers, and pedestrians. Therefore, the automotive engineering field is working on this problem through the development and integration of safety technologies such as advanced driving assistance systems. For this reason, this work was intended to develop and evaluate the performance of different ADAS features and IV technologies under unexpected scenarios. This by the development of safety algorithms applied to the intelligent electric vehicle designed and built in this work, through the use of ADAS sensors based on sensor fusion. Evaluation of AEB, …

Phase-Locked Loop Control In Low-Inertia Grid-Connected Voltage-Source Converters, Ifechukwude Gideon Odogwu Jan 2020

Phase-Locked Loop Control In Low-Inertia Grid-Connected Voltage-Source Converters, Ifechukwude Gideon Odogwu

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

As the integration of renewable energy on the grid increases, the number of voltage-source converters (VSC) installed also does. VSC controls both switch turn-on and turn-off, allowing a dc voltage source to be switched between phases. For the converter to accurately synchronize with the grid, a phase-locked loop (PLL) is used for the frequency measurements of the grid. However, the implementation of PLL with measurement delay introduces harmonics, noise, high frequency, and voltage oscillation to the system due to its dynamics. The dynamics introduced to the grid can be ignored under stiff grid conditions, but power from renewable sources decreases …

Control Of Voltage-Source Converters Considering Virtual Inertia Dynamics, Tri Nguyen Jan 2020

Control Of Voltage-Source Converters Considering Virtual Inertia Dynamics, Tri Nguyen

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Controlling power-electronic converters in power systems has significantly gained more attention due to the rapid penetration of alternative energy sources. This growth in the depth of penetration also poses a threat to the frequency stability of modern power systems. Photovoltaic and wind power systems utilizing power-electronic converters without physical rotating masses, unlike traditional power generations, provide low inertia, resulting in frequency instability. Different research has developed the control aspects of power-electronic converters, offering many control strategies for different operation modes and enhancing the inertia of converter-based systems. The precise control algorithm that can improve the inertial response of converter-based systems …

Designing And Testing 3-D Printed Wafer-Box With Embedded Pzt Sensors To Identify The Shape Effect On Energy Harvesting, Ahmad Jami Safayet Jan 2018

Designing And Testing 3-D Printed Wafer-Box With Embedded Pzt Sensors To Identify The Shape Effect On Energy Harvesting, Ahmad Jami Safayet

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Piezoelectric energy has been recently paid attention in the field of alternative energy. Day by day the traditional energy sources including Coal tar and oils are becoming scarce. People are heading to an alternative energy source to meet the future energy demand. Piezoelectric energy is one of the competitive energy sources compared to the conventional renewable energy sources including solar, wind, and geothermal power and so on. This energy production method bears enormous research potential because it can be used as the roadway for a new method of power generation. This research project aimed to identify which shaped wafer-box produced …

Modeling, Designing And Analysis Of A Standalone Pv Dc Microgrid System, Sharaf Sumaiya Jan 2018

Modeling, Designing And Analysis Of A Standalone Pv Dc Microgrid System, Sharaf Sumaiya

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The increasing concern about global warming, the upsurge of oil prices, and pollution of petroleum energy has led scientists to search for cost-effective energy sources, for example, photovoltaics. Recently DC microgrids have also drawn more consideration because of the expanding use of direct current (DC) energy sources, energy storages and loads in power systems. First, as a groundwork, the 1D organic solar cell has been investigated that leads to design 3D organic solar cell. Then design and analysis of a standalone solar PV system with dc microgrid has been proposed to supply power for both DC and AC loads. The …

Energy Storage Management And Simulation For Nano-Grids, Shantu Ghose Jan 2017

Energy Storage Management And Simulation For Nano-Grids, Shantu Ghose

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Energy storage has been utilized in many forms and applications from a flashlight to the Space Shuttle. There is a worldwide effort to develop battery model with high energy level and power densities for a variety range of applications, including hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) and photovoltaic system (PV). To improve battery technology, understanding the battery modeling is very important. So, modeling the thermal behavior of a battery is a vital consideration before designing an effective thermal management system which will operate safely and prolong the lifespan of an energy storage system. The first part of this work focused on the …

Solar Irradiance Forecasting And Implications For Domestic Electric Water Heating, Christopher Nutter Jan 2017

Solar Irradiance Forecasting And Implications For Domestic Electric Water Heating, Christopher Nutter

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

As the effects of burning fossil fuels continues to present its prevalence, the interests in alternative forms of energy is expanding. Within the home, the domestic electrical water heater accounts for approximately 17% of its energy consumption. Reducing the amount of energy required to produce hot water from this thermal system alone can have a significant effect on reducing its carbon footprint. In this presented work, a modeled domestic electrical water heater was supplied photovoltaic and on-grid electrical power to increase its energy efficiency. As photovoltaic (PV) energy is directly related to solar irradiation, it is important to receive accurate …
