Digital Platform To Aid Youth Substance Abuse Prevention, Bingxuan Li
Digital Platform To Aid Youth Substance Abuse Prevention, Bingxuan Li
Discovery Undergraduate Interdisciplinary Research Internship
Through research and interviews, I discovered that a significant portion of students in Africa become drug addicts and drop out of school. The solution is to prevent youth substance abuse before it happens, so that more students in Africa may continue their education. With the strong motivation of expanding African student involvement in higher education, I participated DURI program to increase higher education rates in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Africa. The local government is establishing rehabilitation centers to monitor at-risk students and prevent youth substance abuse, but due to extremely limited resources, it is critical to evaluate the …
Design Of Dc-Link Vscf Ac Electrical Power System For The Embraer 190/195 Aircraft, Eduardo Francis Carvalho Freitas, Nihad E. Daidzic
Design Of Dc-Link Vscf Ac Electrical Power System For The Embraer 190/195 Aircraft, Eduardo Francis Carvalho Freitas, Nihad E. Daidzic
Journal of Aviation Technology and Engineering
A proposed novel DC-Link VSCF AC-DC-AC electrical power system converter for Embraer 190/195 transport category airplane is presented. The proposed converter could replace the existing conventional system based on the CSCF IDGs. Several contemporary production airplanes already have VSCF as a major or backup source of electrical power. Problems existed with the older VSCF systems in the past; however, the switched power electronics and digital controllers have matured and can be now, in our opinion, safely integrated and replace existing constant-speed hydraulic transmissions powering CSCF AC generators. IGBT power transistors for medium-level power conversion and relatively fast efficient switching are …
Pursuit Evasion With Multiple Pursuers : Capturing A Ground Vehicle On A Road Network With Multiple Drones, Blake Wilson, Shreyas Sundaram, Amritha Prasad
Pursuit Evasion With Multiple Pursuers : Capturing A Ground Vehicle On A Road Network With Multiple Drones, Blake Wilson, Shreyas Sundaram, Amritha Prasad
The Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) Symposium
Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) have many military and civilian applications, one of which is monitoring a given area (such as a road network) for threats. An important question in this application is to determine the latest time to dispatch UAVs for the guaranteed capture of threats attempting to travel through the network. In this work, we consider a pursuit evasion scenario with multiple pursuers (UAVs) trying to catch a single evader (ground vehicle), where information about the evader’s path is provided by ground sensors. In this scenario, we consider the problem of finding the maximum delay with which the pursuers …
Control System Research And Development To Support Virtual Prototyping Of Pump And Motors, Rajith Weerasinghe, Monika Ivantysynova, Paul Kalbfleisch
Control System Research And Development To Support Virtual Prototyping Of Pump And Motors, Rajith Weerasinghe, Monika Ivantysynova, Paul Kalbfleisch
The Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) Symposium
Virtual prototyping of positive pumps and motors is incredibly useful, increasing speed of development and lowering cost. The calculations of fluids discharge pressure, displaced by a swashplate-type-axial piston pump/motor is dependent on the load impedance driven by the unit. The load impedance is estimated by a variable orifice found downstream of the unit. Similarly, the suction line impedance is also estimated with an orifice. The current project aims to evaluate the various loading architectures in their ability to quickly and accurately create the desired impedance. The robustness of the loading architectures was tested on a wide range of pump sizes, …

Simulation, Control And Testing Of Advanced Hydraulic Hybrid Transmissions, Italo M. Ramos, Monika Ivantysynova, Michael Sprengel
The Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) Symposium
Hydraulic hybrids transmissions have the potentially to substantially improve the fuel efficiency of on road vehicles. In fact recent studies have demonstrated that this technology can improve fuel economy by upwards of 30% over competing electric hybrids. To further improve the fuel economy and performance of this technology a novel blended hydraulic hybrid transmission has been constructed at the Maha Fluid Power Research Center. While this novel hybrid architecture created by the Maha lab has many benefits over conventional systems, there are a number of control challenges present due to several discrete modes of operation. And though improving fuel economy …
Improving Manufacturing Processes Through Energy Monitoring, Andrew Grzelak
Improving Manufacturing Processes Through Energy Monitoring, Andrew Grzelak
Purdue Polytechnic Masters Theses
Energy efficiency and sustainability are very popular topics in the current field of manufacturing. With the increase in use of automation technology as well as the recent growth in the area of energy management, there is much focus on the overall improvement of manufacturing processes. For this research a project was completed to create a system that could improve both process efficiency as well as decrease energy consumption. By taking a look at the machine level energy consumption of an automated piece of manufacturing equipment, by eliminating waste in process, both energy efficiency and operational efficiency can be improved.

Mechatronics Application To Solar Tracking, Danny L. Rodriguez Jr
Mechatronics Application To Solar Tracking, Danny L. Rodriguez Jr
Purdue Polytechnic Directed Projects
The purpose of this was to design and implement a two-axis solar tracking system utilizing the National Instruments C-Rio real time controller. In order to accomplish this a prototype was modeled in CAD. This prototype used two 12 V DC motors to change a solar panel's rotation and tilt based on feedback data from three cadmium sulfide photoresistors. This configuration was chosen for its ability to create both a left-right rotational and an up/down tilt differential. In Addition this approach uses National Instruments Labview to control a solar tracking system. Using Labview add uniqueness to this project by adding a …
