The State of New Jersey is particularly vulnerable to extreme weather and climatic events. This study concentrates on spatial and temporal vulnerability of these events using climate and hydrodynamic modelling. The first chapter focuses on historical climatic trend of temperature and precipitation as well as the future scenarios using 10 bias corrected climate model output considering high end emission scenario derived from Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 5 (CMIP5). In the second chapter a coastal hydrodynamic model called ADCIRC-2DDI was implemented to assess the impact of hurricanes in the Western North Atlantic (WNAT) model domain. The Significance Of A High Resolution 2d Hydraulic Model Including Green Infrastructure For Assessment Of Coastal Community Vulnerability And Resilience, Katie M. Miller

This paper outlines the development of an enhanced hydraulic flood model that uses a fine-scale grid to analyze significant areas of flooding for improved flood predictions and resiliency planning. This study modeled the extent of Atlantic City and Camden, New Jersey. The capabilities of the model were compared to coarser national models, HAZUS-MH and SLOSH, to understand the significance of fine-scale hydraulic modeling. The results illustrated that the HAZUS and SLOSH models showed gaps in some areas and lacked accuracy due to lower resolution. Observations of the spatial variability of hydraulic conductivity of the heterogeneous alluvial aquifer at Columbus Air Force Base in Mississippi are analyzed using parametric geostatistical approaches. Field studies have revealed that the heterogeneity of the aquifer hydraulic conductivity field controls the movement and dispersion of groundwater solutes. Therefore, a means of quantifying spatial variability is essential for the application of flow and solute transport models to practical problems. Application of these models requires a large number of hydraulic conductivity measurements.
