A Campus Connected: An Analysis Of University Outdoor Spaces, Skylar Wilson
A Campus Connected: An Analysis Of University Outdoor Spaces, Skylar Wilson
Undergraduate Honors Theses
The purpose of this research is to analyze the evolution of outdoor renovations on East Tennessee State University’s campus by examining the effects these renovations have had on students and faculty, and then using this data to propose possible successful renovations to the remainder of the University Commons project. To complete this project, data was obtained through East Tennessee State University administrative faculty interviews, surveys of students residing in campus resident halls, and observations. By examining the impact on behavior, designers and developers are then able to successfully determine the factors that aid in positively influencing human behaviors. Design suggestions …
An Enhanced Framework To Compute Road User Costs Associated With Construction Zones, Jeremiah Adebiyi
An Enhanced Framework To Compute Road User Costs Associated With Construction Zones, Jeremiah Adebiyi
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The monetary quantification of inconveniences caused to the road users by ongoing construction activities is known as the Road Users Costs (RUCs). While the importance of RUCs is widely known, some highway agencies lack an appropriate methodology to compute RUCs. Thus, there is a need to develop a framework to compute RUCs that can be adopted quickly by highway agencies. This study reviewed existing literature and conducted a nationwide survey to identify and summarize the current practices of computing RUCs. It developed an enhanced framework and tool to compute RUCs that balances the effort required to calculate RUCs and the …
Selecting The Most Effective Energy Modeling Tool Based On A Project Requirement, Sodiq Akande
Selecting The Most Effective Energy Modeling Tool Based On A Project Requirement, Sodiq Akande
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Building energy usage can be derived and controlled by performing building energy modeling. BEM can be performed using numerous software tools such as DesignBuilder, OpenStudio, EnergyPlus etc. These modeling tools can be sorted into three different modeling categories: Black-box, Gray-box and White-box. It is important for a modeler to be able to quickly select the proper tool from the proper category to meet the need of the project. To validate the method of categorizing tools, the three models generated using tools from each category and the modeling outputs required were compared. Each model was designed to estimate the amount of …
Optimizing Construction Estimation: A Case Study Of The Etsu Football Stadium And The Etsu Fine Arts Center, John Paul Mitra
Optimizing Construction Estimation: A Case Study Of The Etsu Football Stadium And The Etsu Fine Arts Center, John Paul Mitra
Undergraduate Honors Theses
Considering the complexity of the construction industry, it is vital to predict costs accurately throughout the entire planning, design, and construction process of a project. Various factors such as overhead, delays, cost variation, and program and scope play significant roles in determining the viability and profitability of a project. Thus, it is important to learn about what makes construction estimates so variable even among expert estimators within the same company. This study will look at the estimation methods used by BurWil Construction Company and Denark Construction, Inc. for the ETSU Football Stadium and the ETSU Fine Arts Center, respectively, as …
Factors Associated With Crash Severities In Built-Up Areas Along Rural Highways Of Nevada: A Case Study Of 11 Towns, Pramen P. Shrestha, Joseph Shrestha
Factors Associated With Crash Severities In Built-Up Areas Along Rural Highways Of Nevada: A Case Study Of 11 Towns, Pramen P. Shrestha, Joseph Shrestha
ETSU Faculty Works
In 2014, 32,675 deaths were recorded in vehicle crashes within the United States. Out of these, 51% of the fatalities occurred in rural highways compared to 49% in urban highways. No specific crash data are available for the built-up areas along rural highways. Due to high fatalities in rural highways, it is important to identify the factors that cause the vehicle crashes. The main objective of this study is to determine the factors associated with severities of crashes that occurred in built-up areas along the rural highways of Nevada. Those factors could aid in making informed decisions while setting up …
