Steel Model Approval: Can Bim Provide A Drawing-Free Approval Process?, Bim Tudublin, David Reynolds Jan 2020

Steel Model Approval: Can Bim Provide A Drawing-Free Approval Process?, Bim Tudublin, David Reynolds

Capstone Reports

Despite widespread use of Building Information Modelling (BIM) software used within their industry, the approval of steelwork contractor’s design information is largely based on the approval of 2d-drawings. These workflows can be modernised to take advantage of current technology and provide productivity gains, but barriers to change exist. This research is an attempt to answer the research question of if a model-based approval process, which removes the need for drawings, is achievable. To answer this question, a mixed methodology was used. A literature review was performed to understand how the approval process works, what information is required and what BIM …

From Architectural Design To Structural Analysis: A Data-Driven Approach To Study Building Information Modeling (Bim) Interoperability, Mohammed Aldegeily Apr 2018

From Architectural Design To Structural Analysis: A Data-Driven Approach To Study Building Information Modeling (Bim) Interoperability, Mohammed Aldegeily

Masters Theses

BIM has been playing an essential role in building construction projects in recent years. It was used to automate many tasks such as clash detection, 4D planning, and quantity takeoff, among others. However, the interoperability of BIM still lacks in many fields across the architecture, engineering, and construction domains. This research studies the interoperability between architectural design and structural analysis. The goal is to explore structural analysis of BIM models through data transfer processes between different software platforms via three types of paths: (1) Application Programming Interface (API); (2) “immediately connect,” which is the direct link between software programs from …

A Shared Ontology Approach To Semantic Representation Of Bim Data, Mehrdad Niknam, Saeed Karshenas Aug 2017

A Shared Ontology Approach To Semantic Representation Of Bim Data, Mehrdad Niknam, Saeed Karshenas

Civil and Environmental Engineering Faculty Research and Publications

Architecture, engineering, construction and facility management (AEC-FM) projects involve a large number of participants that must exchange information and combine their knowledge for successful completion of a project. Currently, most of the AEC-FM domains store their information about a project in text documents or use XML, relational, or object-oriented formats that make information integration difficult. The AEC-FM industry is not taking advantage of the full potential of the Semantic Web for streamlining sharing, connecting, and combining information from different domains. The Semantic Web is designed to solve the information integration problem by creating a web of structured and connected data …

Chemical Transformation System: Cloud Based Cheminformatic Services To Support Integrated Environmental Modeling, Kurt Wolfe, Nicholas Pope, Rajbir Parmar, Mike Galvin, Caroline Stevens, Eric Weber, Jonathan Flaishans, Tom Purucker Jul 2016

Chemical Transformation System: Cloud Based Cheminformatic Services To Support Integrated Environmental Modeling, Kurt Wolfe, Nicholas Pope, Rajbir Parmar, Mike Galvin, Caroline Stevens, Eric Weber, Jonathan Flaishans, Tom Purucker

International Congress on Environmental Modelling and Software

Integrated Environmental Modeling (IEM) systems that account for the fate/transport of organics frequently require physicochemical properties as well as transformation products. A myriad of chemical property databases exist but these can be difficult to access and often do not contain the proprietary chemicals that environmental regulators must consider. We are building the Chemical Transformation System (CTS) to facilitate model parameterization and analysis. CTS integrates a number of physicochemical property calculators into the system including EPI Suite, SPARC, TEST and ChemAxon. The calculators are heterogeneous in their scientific methodologies, technology implementations and deployment stacks. CTS also includes a chemical transformation processing …

Emergency Maps Tool – Facilitating Collaboration And Decision Making During Emergency & Crises Situations, Gerald Schimak, Peter Kutschera, Refiz Duro, Katharina Kutschera Jul 2016

Emergency Maps Tool – Facilitating Collaboration And Decision Making During Emergency & Crises Situations, Gerald Schimak, Peter Kutschera, Refiz Duro, Katharina Kutschera

International Congress on Environmental Modelling and Software

The Emergency Maps Tool (EMT) has been developed as part of a collaboration environment in the C2-SENSE Emergency Interoperability Framework (www.c2-sense.eu). The collaboration environment aims to connect all relevant organizations for joint response in emergency and crises situations. The Emergency Maps Tool aims to display all relevant resources (e.g., authorities, organization, points and object of interests, messages, etc.) involved or of special importance, in order to allow proper decision making. EMT allows decision makers to set and monitor activities, send and receive event related messages but also to include ad-hoc information from sensors or sensor networks (e.g., water monitoring sensors …

Exploring Environmental Model Catalogs, Ilva Zaslavsky, Thomas Whitenack, David Valentine Jun 2014

Exploring Environmental Model Catalogs, Ilva Zaslavsky, Thomas Whitenack, David Valentine

International Congress on Environmental Modelling and Software

As part of the NSF EarthCube cross-domain interoperability roadmap and the CINERGI (Community Inventory of EarthCube Resources for Geoscience Interoperability) projects, we assembled and analysed several catalogs of environmental models. The goals of this work included analysis of patterns of pre-model data flows from multiple domains and consistent cataloguing models across multiple model collections using a common set of metadata fields. This paper presents status updates and initial analytical results along these goals. We explored model registries assembled by NOAA and EPA, as well as model descriptions created within CSDMS, ESMF and TESS projects. These model metadata collections were visualized …

ECT Fact Sheets

xProjects is a cloud based collaboration and project management solution that resolves the interoperability issues associated with integrated project delivery (IPD) and electrifies the IPD process by enabling capital project owners to collaborate seamlessly with multiple project stakeholders. Using XML adapters to create connections between systems, CMiC Real Time Integration (RTI) tags data so it can be transferred bi-directionally between participants within the project ecosystem with no loss of information or the need for re-entry.
