Investigation Of Discrepancies In South Carolina Traffic Collision Forms, Jackson Wegmet Oct 2023

Investigation Of Discrepancies In South Carolina Traffic Collision Forms, Jackson Wegmet

Theses and Dissertations

The aim of this thesis is to improve the accuracy of information recorded in the South Carolina traffic collision forms. To accomplish this, it examines 200 forms containing information about fatal crashes in work zones between 2014 and 2020 to determine how many discrepancies exist between the written narrative and other fields. In addition to obtaining these statistics, this thesis seeks to identify factors that influence discrepancies. To test the hypothesis that crash complexity and weather influence the investigating officer’s level of processing (a theory developed by Craik and Lockhart in 1972), and consequentially his/her ability to complete the traffic …

Several case studies are presented for river basins in the U.S., Dominican …

Development Of A 3-D Finite Element Program For Pavement Analysis, Volume 3: Appendix 3, Tatsaba Nilaward, Chiang Shih, Thomas D. White, E. C. Ting Jan 1998

Development Of A 3-D Finite Element Program For Pavement Analysis, Volume 3: Appendix 3, Tatsaba Nilaward, Chiang Shih, Thomas D. White, E. C. Ting

JTRP Technical Reports

A three dimensional finite element program is developed for the analysis of pavement systems. An explicit approach of the finite element analysis is adopted. This approach results in a vector formulation of the equation of motion. Large displacement is considered through the use of a co-rotational approach which considers small deformations and large rotations of the elements. For the convenience of application a two dimensional finite element program is also developed. An eight-node isoperimetric solid element is used for the three dimensional analysis, and a four-node element for the two dimensional analysis. Loading conditions are verified for static ramp and …

Indot Constructability Multimedia System Working Module, Bob G. Mccullouch Jan 1996

Indot Constructability Multimedia System Working Module, Bob G. Mccullouch

JTRP Technical Reports

Constructability can be defined as incorporating knowledge into the design product or designing so it is easier to construct. Transportation facilities have suffered from this problem, with INDOT no exception. The most important feature of any constructability program is capturing field examples, commonly referred to as “lessons learned,” and archiving and retrieving them into future projects that are either similar or have similar conditions in order to eliminate or prevent the same mistakes from occurring again. A mechanism or tool that can perform this task would be a valuable asset for INDOT. A previous JHRP project title “An INDOT Lessons …

Multimedia Application Synthesis Study, Bob G. Mccullouch Jan 1994

Multimedia Application Synthesis Study, Bob G. Mccullouch

JTRP Technical Reports

Multimedia with its ability to involve various human faculties through the use of various media forms, provides a robust environment in which to learn in. Retention improves significantly when media exercises these various human faculties. Studies indicate that students complete training in one-third the time of the traditional instruction method while reaching up to 50 percent higher competency levels. Utilizing this technology can provide improved training tools and learning environments for the Department. Because of the many potential applications, technical and nontechnical, that may exist within the Department for utilizing this technology; a study was performed to answer questions about …

An Indot Lessons Learned Constructability Program And Integrated Multimedia System, Bob G. Mccullouch, Robert Michael Patty Jan 1994

An Indot Lessons Learned Constructability Program And Integrated Multimedia System, Bob G. Mccullouch, Robert Michael Patty

JTRP Technical Reports

To improve constructability, experienced design and construction engineers often select processes and develop details that require less labor, equipment, or management resources to build. These innovative ideas, enabling circumstances, and their effect on the construction process are not usually recorded in a reusable format. Without such a mechanism, recalling this experience under the appropriate circumstances, or transferring the technology to new management has generally not happened. Further, civil engineers are generally educated to optimize cost by minimizing the material quantity. Through experience gained after graduation, they are expected to pick up options for engineering impact on the labor, equipment, and …

Computer Simulation Of Urban Runoff Characteristics Within Salt Lake County, Robert Newman Parnell May 1971

Computer Simulation Of Urban Runoff Characteristics Within Salt Lake County, Robert Newman Parnell

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

A hybrid computer program is developed to simulate the outflow hydrographs of two urban watersheds located within Salt Lake County, Utah. The gaged outflow of the watersheds provided a checkpoint for comparing the observed and the simulated final outflow hydrographs.

The outflow hydrographs for each subzone of the two watersheds were obtained by abstracting interception, infiltration and depression storage from each subzone hyetograph. The outflow of the subzones were routed to the Jordan River, the final outflow point of the two watersheds. The final hydrographs of the watersheds were combined and compared with the gaged flow.

The uniquenesses of this …

Electronic Analog Computer Hydrologic Simulation Of The Upper Bear River Basin, Mohammed A. Basha May 1970

Electronic Analog Computer Hydrologic Simulation Of The Upper Bear River Basin, Mohammed A. Basha

All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023

OF the total precipitation falling on watersheds throughout the world, an average of approximately 85 percent returns directly to the atmosphere through evaporation and use by mountain vegetation. The remaining 15 percent moves from the watersheds as runoff and becomes available in the valleys to be used by man for irrigation, industry, recreation, and many other requirements in recent years has led to an increasing need for efficient management of available water resources, and in this regard computer modeling or simulation has proved to be a powerful tool.

The study described herein involves simulation of the hydrologic system of the …
